It's not really that weird tbh. If you've ever been around someone like my anti-vaxxer, nutri-bullet peddler, incense burning, 24/7 TLC watching aunt you realize pretty soon that the whole wellness ideology is about fuck everyone else, I have to love myself at any cost, even if that cost is reality itself.
You explain nutritional facts: " but what if I just mash these random herbs into a tea and snort them up ever 117 minutes instead. It makes me feel better."
You show them how an mRNA vaccine works: "but what if meditation and positive thinking had the same effect, and placebos are better than medicines because that way you are teaching your body to create the active ingredients from nothing. I'm not vaccinating my children because I never got sick and they need to grow strong (because she was vaccinated)"
You explain the physics of celestial bodies: "but what if it was actually your mood motivating the movement of the planets. You're such a retrograde".
The simpler a concept you put in front of them, the harder they will fight it and come up with some alternative explanation. It might feel backwards that the wellnessmovement instantly jump to fascism which is such a rigid and authoritarian system, but it makes perfect sense once you interact with them for a spell.
It's all about denying reality, and most importantly the permanent victimization of having to submit to society's rules designed to benefit anyone other than you. They simply cannot stand when everything isn't about them.
