Completely fair ngl. That Obama era free gender reassignment surgery shit was a fucking trainwreck. Recruiters were legit offering that to people and the result was exactly what anyone could've anticipated. There's plenty of ways to move forward on things though without it being a social experiment. Repealing DADT? Fuck yeah. That experiment to find a gender neutral PT test? Collosal waste of effort. You strap 80+ lbs gear to women and the vast majority crumble no matter what their fitness score says. Renaming bases doesn't fix generations long issues with certain places either.
Green initiatives through the military before anywhere else is also just a mess. There's no realistic standard to meet.
Don't think three finger Ron is the guy for the job obviously but that's far from the wildest take you'll see on the military.
And yeah Ukraine/Russia needs an end state in mind. That's absolutely not a stretch.

None of it seems genuine at this point. It's like when Chris Christie said Marco Rubio is just repeating talking points.

It's not hard to just answer a strategic question around Ukraine without diving into all of the culture war nonsense
Bro went off on a woke tangent when asked about Ukraine and you think that was a fair response? He just did an anti woke stump before addressing the comment and then gave a vague as fuck response. “I would want a settlement.” Ya bro cool beans does your settlement involve Ukraine giving up more lands?

meh calling it culture war is semantics and easy food. no point acting like we can't acknowledge when stuff for the base is lobbed up. but there's definitely friction there that's long past needing to be addressed.
and like fr - yal can beat your chest from the sidelines all day but that's still people getting mulched at a rapid pace for a year and change now. it needs a real end point other than 'when russia stops' because obviously they're not anywhere close to being bled dry like the news has said every week now.

On a general level I don't think anyone is disagreeing with some of the specifics.
It's just bizarre that's what the response first jumped into. It's not relevant and just playing to a base that doesn't want to think about actual strategy.
It's emblematic about the GOP -- they actually don't have any policies that matter.

'woke' is dumb as fuck but ppl eat it up. the point of recruiting being hit by stupid stuff is very real and so is the military worrying about green initiatives that we can't even hold a myriad of other public offices to. it's very easy to understand that so like... I can't remember if its always this hard for people here to separate the fluff from the actual topic.

I don’t know what this means.
Ukraine has no authority to decide what they want? If they want to give Putin the middle finger we just leave em out to dry? You think we should encourage Ukraine to give Putin their land?
Only reason that asshole is pushing that narrative is the MAGA base too. They both love Putin and and glorify Russia’s anti woke BS. All while thinking the ..4% of our budget being sent to Ukraine is bankrupting us and causing inflation.

When fighting kicked off then and the US was in the process of building a presence to deter within Germany, Germany and France both came together to discourage it. Instead of telling them to fuck off and fulfilling that security obligation then in definite measure, which the US does often, we acquiesced and went to asking NATO countries to increase their own defensive commitments - which they did not.
Hence the collective ohshits across Europe once Russia was fully convinced that the perceived vulnerabilities were not simply perceived.
Russia would say aliens were in Ukraine if it got people enlisting. Doesn't matter. They've been in the crosshairs for generations. When you promise an ally security, it doesn't simply come into play once they've had their teeth kicked in, a substantial part of their population is displaced, and they're forced to conscript. The window for deterrence was actively disregarded.
Now? The end state isn't even being considered either apparently. From any perspective where you consider accountability from the defense provider here, the US has been wholly irresponsible.
I feel like I've been ranting about this since Gaby was here 😂

I could agree with that, but Zelensky and co. didn't even think publicly these dudes were going to invade until a few weeks before the invasion. Nothing can really be done about past mistakes.

The cause of the war goes back minimum to 2014 with Euromaidan and in general with Ukraine wanting to ally itself closer and closer to the west, and outside of Russia's orbit. Coupled with the fact that Putin has frequently talked about the existence of Ukraine being a historical mistake that needs to retreat back to the "motherland", and even as far as to question the existence of Ukraine as a people. That seems to be the root issue of it all in a nutshell.

Everyone here was expecting these dudes to roll over in a week back in February 2022 now that they’re pushing them back, and preparing for a massive counter-offensive, Ukraine is supposed to be the one to “de-escalate”? Impressive victim blaming. All NATO’s fault, of course.
i've been elaborating for years lmao. not gaslighting me today
You can find me up in arms about this going back to the temp forum and the other site. Fender don't even know where Crimea came from but is at the same time very okay with decision makers who see no better option than letting our allies fight to the bitter end.
If you want to emphasize the adversary, that's fine. Its also easy. Your ally wittingly or unwittingly setting you up to be a crash test dummy on the strat level is worth far more than whatever whimsical shit this is though.
I'd like to think people would want to know more before clapping for an endless, gradual escalation that is at best mildly inconvenient for Putin.

Any kind of concessions made to Russia is just a precursor to another invasion or conflict in the future, and is basically untenable to the Ukrainian population anyway, who want Russia off their land. Look at Georgia and Moldova… there’s a reason everyone on that continent doesn’t want anything to do with Putin’s Russia.

Staging in Germany was the answer. Even daring the Russians to attack without US citizens getting the advisory to evacuate would've been better lol. But the idea of an end state is really starting to register as a surrender condition or something when it's not. I was absolutely clear in saying when this kicked off last year, that if you're going to fight you may as well win. We're not even working towards that... Focus on that part specifically if it comes across better. Libya got filleted in a week. This is not some long process by default.
An end state is supposed to be literally the first thing you plan around. I'm irritated because a no end in sight support campaign is apparently the objective. If you fuck up in foreign policy, you don't get to fight indefinitely to rectify it. You own the fact you fucked up and make sure mistakes don't repeat. There's plenty of countries around the world where it can.

At least PB actually wants to see if there's more to this counterpoint. Deflect deflect when there's thousands dead and foreign fighters compose more and more of both sides of those trenches on a daily basis. A settlement means folks stop dying 😂 ppl turn into warhawks and don't even flinch fr
Bringing up what got us to a point, without answering where to go isn’t a counterpoint 😂 I never even made a point to counter outside of how vague “push for a settlement” is. A counterpoint woukd be addressing that 😂

He's really just gonna toss the word woke into every response, about every single thing he's asked: relevant or not. Trump was smart enough to lie. This guy is feeling himself to hard.

Kinda proof you don't even know what the field is more than anything. This isn't a 'win' scenario at all anymore. Just how much which groups are willing to stomach. You can stomach a lot when you don't care so meh
There's every likelihood that I'm misunderstanding the basic argument, but if caring=conceding, why are Ukraine even bothering?

Otherwise you've got frozen conflicts like the two Georgia breakaway regions and Transnistria. But It feels just a little strange to be calling for it now when Ukraine is on the front foot for the last 8 months, people are mobilized, Western support is increasing if anything, and the population doesn't want stop fighting but rather wants the opposite. Feels like the summer counter-offensive is going to be decisive in seeing how the war finishes. I’d also still like to know how a settlement looks like from your perspective.

This had become an issue in Korea.
SK doesn’t have any nukes because of America’s promise to help. Many worry that with NK getting better at developing missiles that can hit the American mainland that the US would not really offer protection if the North did something stupid to the South out of fear of an attack in the mainland.
There was talk of SK starting its own nuke development, but that has cooled down after the latest trip to Washington.
Lauren Boebert's son called 911 in tears to report his father was 'throwing' him around the house. Then she took the phone.
Rep. Lauren Boebert's son called 911 in December to report that his father, Jayson Boebert, had gotten physical with him and was "throwing" him around the house and that he didn't know why.Just another day in people who talk about protecting children being the biggest hypocrites around.
Minutes after the call ended — while Garfield County Sheriff's Office deputies were on their way to their home — the teen called again to take the accusations back, with Lauren Boebert jumping on the phone to say her son "doesn't need help."
Jayson Boebert denied to the deputies — and to Insider — that he had gotten physical with the teen.
"The safety and well-being of my family are the most important things in the world to me," Lauren Boebert told Insider on Thursday. "We've had some tough times and heartache. I've taken action to ensure there are better days ahead for all of us."
