If anyone has the time, I'd say this is one of the better things I've read on crypto generally.

I'm David Rosenthal. I worked with James Gosling on CMU's Andrew project in the early 80s. I was a DE with him at Sun later in the 80s working on window systems including X, and file systems. I quit to be employee #4 at Nvidia where Curtis Priem and I did the basic I/O architecture, then was an early employee at Vitria, the second company of founders of Tibco. Before I start talking about cryptocurrencies, I should stress that I hold no long or short positions in cryptocurrencies, their derivatives or related companies; I am long Nvidia. Unlike most people discussing them, I am not "talking my book".
Cryptocurrencies' roots lie deep in the libertarian culture of Silicon Valley and the cypherpunks. Libertarianism's attraction is based on ignoring externalities, and cryptocurrencies are no exception.
By torreznos Go To PostI know someone who's got a boat. Let's do this.Best thing is to have a friend with a boat for sure. Though these days with boat lifts and magnitudes of order more reliable engines this is less and less the case. But the saying goes that you are only happy twice with boats, the first day you buy a boat and when you sell it.

Some of the topics are out of my scope off understanding, but it was a good read. Didn’t realize how few mining pops there are, how much control they actually have and how exploitable crypto is
They really can't help themselves. Posted this meme in the family chat and my wealthy aunt couldn't even fathom the thought to understand it.
All of her sisters were laughing at her and to this day she doesn't understand it.

Watching old TV shows is funny, dudes would be a garbage man, bus driver, delivery man etc and have multi-floor homes in New York with stay at home wives and it would be believable. Nowadays you got those jobs and you living in the hood or with your parents.

I know people in their 60s/70s with four houses, two cars, high pensions, and all on an high school diploma out there saying young people are poor because they don’t want to work, “I paid taxes all my life, this is what I worked for”.
These days you need a bachelor’s to to get decent pay answering phone calls. Want a house? It’s 400k in a decent place, and you need 10% upfront minimum, so you need at least 40k just laying around. You’ll be paying that house for the rest of your life btw.
Oh you drive a car? Gas is 1.7€ Per liter. Cya. Oh wait, you would rather live in the city? *laughs*
By Daz Go To PostYou seen the apartment Rachel and Monika have in Manhattan?to be fair they explained that by saying it was rent controlled and they wouldn't be able to afford it otherwise.
On a chef and waitress salary.
By DiPro Go To Postto be fair they explained that by saying it was rent controlled and they wouldn't be able to afford it otherwise. It's more Chandler & Joey's place with Chandler paying for literally everything and then showing off his bankroll 3 seasons later which was more baffling.
It's nuts how normalised it's become for people in their 30s to be renting rooms. Not even full flats.
By Daz Go To PostIt's nuts how normalised it's become for people in their 30s to be renting rooms. Not even full flats.its crazy
I get circumstances can get shitty, but renting a room for more than a few years after age 30? it has to erode sanity
By Daz Go To PostIt's nuts how normalised it's become for people in their 30s to be renting rooms. Not even full flats. The rent is too damn high, bro.
I'd be fucked if I was on my own and hadn't lived with my parents long enough to build up some savings.
It's a grand a month for a two bedroom flat around here, and like 850-900 for one bedroom.

wish I could get under a rack for rent and not have to live in a crackhouse or out in the boonies just to have my own place
main thing that turned me off of NYC in the end was having to pay what I pay now in rent but have a roommate or 2

I know.
It's Messed up.
Before I bought my place, people were asking like 900p/m for shared accommodation.
We pay north of $2200 for a two bedroom but it’s a brand new building and in a cool neighbourhood so. 🤷🏻♂️ Could be worse I suppose. Condo amenities in there basically.

You ever look at the interest you pay over 30 years? That's where they get you by the balls, too:
$500,000 interest at 3.5% APR over 30 years. That's what the bank gets just to hand you a loan if you got good credit.
man I ain’t never buying a house I guess 😕
unless I decide to eat ramen for 5 years to save up for one
