Firestarter was bad, a rare misstep for Blumhouse. Not even the inclusion of the line "Liar, liar, pants on fire " could save it.
By Punished Go To PostFirestarter was bad, a rare misstep for Blumhouse. Not even the inclusion of the line "Liar, liar, pants on fire " could save it.I love Blumhouse but they are not short on stinkers.
Firestarter never looked good, the original wasn't that good to start with.
Northman was way more grounded than I expected. Which was a bit disappointing, was hoping for more stuff like Dafoe's scenes and more Norse mythological stuff. I still liked it a lot though I felt some scenes, particularly the combat, were honestly poor. Obviously I didn't really watch it for the combat but it's there and it's not good. It's not fucking, like, Rises bad but you can almost see the actors counting out the timings on each swing and hit or dodge. Sleepy. Apart from that sport? scene, that was cool.
The lad Eggman is 3/3 though. Long may it continue.

What's the consensus on The French Dispatch?
I'm enjoying it but compared to this directors previous work that I've seen(Budapest hotel, isle of dogs, the fox movie & moonrise kingdom) it's not as immediately gripping(apart from nude leya sedoux)
About half way through.

uncut gems was every bit as good as the lads told me it would be. edge-of-your-seat cinema.
haven’t seen it yet, but my favourite anderson is the life aquatic steve zissou.

The French dispatch is easily the worst Wes Anderson film I've seen. Haven't seen everything from him, but this really stood out as being kind of bad.
So many good actors just pissed away with Wes Anderson going full style over any substance at all
Have you seen good time? Same directors, better film. Should be on Netflix too

Northman was great, felt like watching a really good quest play out in a movie format. Somewhere past the middle it lost it's pace a bit but picked it back up near the end.
The mother was some piece of work though, when she first met her adult son, that scene was fucked.
Fantastic visuals, cinematography and score. Action and acting a bit wobbly here and there but overall very good.

By Not Go To PostMan you thought that was GROUNDED?
How was it not? It, in the end, was a very straightforward revenge film with sporadic references to Norse mythology. And then like all of the mystical stuff was literally just in Amleth's head (even the Draugr scene… when it flips back to reality, Amleth just takes the sword from the corpse). The prophecy shit and The Fool's mummified head was about as weird as it got and the former is par for the course with viking stuff.
Agreed with Hixx. Wanted it to be more out there. Some of the best bits in the film were the fantastical parts.
Amleth howling to get that dog to attack its owners, and the ravens freeing him when he was tied up was not exactly what i would call grounded either. But yeah, at the end of the day it is just the Amleth tale with some changes, probably wouldnt have gotten that kind of budget to not make it somewhat accessible.
More Dafoe would have been really nice, and was kind of sad the dad from the Witch was barely in it too. But I also cant really complain about any of the actors who got more screen time, was surprised Claes Bang did a good job, cause I mostly remember him from small roles in terrible danish films and tv shows.

Feel like I should point out that I didn't say the film was 100% bereft of the mythology and Weird Shit™. I said I wished there were more of it.

not yet. it's not up on the dutch netflix, sadly.
Morbius was very bad and there's no redeeming it, but it also felt like a movie that was butchered / cut down in editing.
Morbius wasn't even just bad it was insultingly bad. Like really one of the worst movies produced this decade.

It was very bad but it still never touches the depths that the Venom movies plumb.
