By Perfect Blue Go To PostNeed to abolish sex scenes in movies for real. I was thinking about it earlier and the only films I can recall where they’re integral to the plot in any way are films where the main character has some kind of sex-related affliction, like in Shame (good film) and Nymphomaniac (awful film). Everything else? Bin it
M8 we just talked about Boogie nights. and not to mention Red Rocket recently.
By Perfect Blue Go To PostDanny Boyle is such a fraud
why
Would feel really fucking weird to have a film about a guy with a monster cock, and him getting into porn, without scenes including fucking.
Also felt pretty important to drive my car to have her cheat

Why can’t they be integral to character or relationships rather than plot?
By n8 dogg Go To PostWhy can’t they be integral to character or relationships rather than plot?I suppose I’m using “plot” as a catch all term for everything in a film. The aforementioned Nymphomaniac and especially Shame, the sex scenes in that are integral to character development and relationships on some level too. What are some other examples you had in mind?

Shoutout to Blue is the Warmest Colour for the worst sex scenes of all-time. Like it was directed and made by teenager whose only experience with sex is hardcore porn
Not gonna lie, up until 5 minutes ago I thought the actress from Agents Of Shield and Michelle Yeoh were the same person.
It's not easy being white.

Well I don’t know about integral to the plot per se, and I agree with you that some sex scenes - like BitWC - are explicit for the sake of being so.
But even take something as maligned as Watchmen; the sex scene between Nite Owl and Silk Spectre is laughable. However, it serves a purpose on a character level by suggesting it’s vigilantism that gives NO his mojo back, and thematically works to frame superhero vigilantism as an unhealthy fetish.
I guess you mean explicit sex scenes? I’m just looking at my recent watches on Letterboxd… Nightmare Alley for instance had a handjob in the first ten minutes that was almost entirely unnecessary from a plot perspective. In The Northman, there is no sex scene but there is a post-sex scene where again, ATJ’s naked bum doesn’t contribute to the scene. In Do the Right Thing, Rosie Perez getting ice put on her nips is real perv behaviour from Spike Lee.
But in something like LA Confidential, the initiation of sex between Pearce and Basinger takes into account about 5 different important machinations (albeit you don’t actually see the sex).
By reilo Go To PostGood news everyone
Peacock is remaking The Killer
At least John Woo’s doing it
By n8 dogg Go To PostWell I don’t know about integral to the plot per se, and I agree with you that some sex scenes - like BitWC - are explicit for the sake of being so.Yeah I think I'm trying to differentiate between "sex scene" and "scene that has some element of sex in it". The Drive My Car example that Wooden posted is one of the latter and those are generally okay more often than not. The former is the one I tend to have an issue with and even great films suffer from them - like the sex scenes in Munich and The Handmaiden.

The Handmaiden ones are fairly egregious too, you’re right. Always female nudity as well; it’s definitely a ‘sex sells’ vibe.
Out of Sight is one of the sexiest films ever and there’s nothing gratuitous in that.
although a world in which the desperado sex scene doesn’t exist is not a world i want to live in

Blade Runner 2049 sex scene was very well done and inventive and actually had a narrative relevance.

true kino. lars von triers best film
Can’t stop thinking about Malcolm X and in particular, Denzel’s performance. Might be top 5 I’ve ever seen. Guy has put in two of the best I’ve seen in this and Fences.
Haven't gotten round to watching Malcolm X or Fences yet, but I love Denzel
His son doesn't quite have the same quality tho lol

mad how you had time to do that but allow shocking posts like sy's besmirching of Trainspotting to fester.
Trying to determine whether I should catch The Northman after work tonight (would be an obscenely long day) or wait for the home release...

By Yurtlicious Go To Postapparently WandaVision is essential before watching Strange 2
bye
Only thing you need to know is Wanda made astral projections of some kids she had to deal with grief, and she found a magic book at the end
You can just watch a 5 min summary but I actually enjoyed the emotional payoff of the show even if I didn’t love the show itself.

i highly doubt it since nothing really happens that would advance the plot much.
