Enjoyed this movie and scene. What was the conflict/war about? Brits vs Irish? Or was it an Irish civil war + brits type deal? Confused by who they are referring to when they mention "leadership" since I thought Bobby Sands was the leader.

Read up on the troubles
From the second paragraph of wiki lol
The conflict was primarily political and nationalistic, fuelled by historical events. It also had an ethnic or sectarian dimension but despite use of the terms 'Protestant' and 'Catholic' to refer to the two sides, it was not a religious conflict.
By n8 dogg Go To PostFrom the second paragraph of wiki lollooool, shit.
Religion was a factor insofar as both groups generally held different beliefs. But really the Troubles were born from the Unionists locking out Nationalists from the best paying jobs and trades and generally treating them like second class citizens in their own country. As to why they did that, one theory is that they were afraid their people would eventually be outnumbered in Northern Ireland so needed to solidify their rule. And obviously they had a great deal of resources at hand to implement that.
This oppression led to an armed conflict which then increased the brutality by the police and British Army on Nationalist areas. Also led to covert British state backed murder squads like the UVF. Which isn't to say that the subsequent IRA tactics were entirely justified. They targeted civilians just as much as as the British. But there was a desperation involved on the part of the IRA which I don't think is fully appreciated in Britain.
Unionists were predominantly Protestant and Nationalists predominantly Catholic.
Like, it's much broader in scope than the above. There's centuries of shit that can be waded through which also encompasses what's now the Republic of Ireland as well.

I can see why so many people love 2001: A Space Odyssey but far too much of the first half of the film in particular is literally just watching fucking spaceships moving across the screen slowly while extremely loud classical music plays in the background. Wow incredible.
When it's not doing that it's pretty fucking good. Apart from the ending because what the fuck? Read that the book actually makes sense so I will probably get it as my next book but... eh. Pretty good film but don't buy into it being a great one.

I read the books before watching the movie somehow. So it was..... An odd sort of perspective I guess lol
Also tge UVF was fucking insanity. Still can't believe I just discovered all of that nonsense last year.

By DY_nasty Go To PostI read the books before watching the movie somehow. So it was….. An odd sort of perspective I guess lolWe'll probably never get the full picture of how involved the British state actually was with the Unionist paramilitaries. I'm sure there are thousands of documents which have been 'lost' over the years. We know there was some association with British Intelligence and those organisations. And we know that police in Britain framed Irish people for crimes they didn't commit. To keep things on topic, see the movie 'In the Name of the Father'.

Moonfall
I'm 30 mins in and this is such an average film at best. I knew 2 minutes in it wasn't going to be great, but I'll stick with it letting it play in the background. I already know how this is going to end, we've all seen this film before.
Edit: fuck 😂😂😂 this movie is so stupid I'm beginning to enjoy it.
Edit: this movie has got to be funded by China. So many unnecessary pro-Chinese moments out of nowhere for no real reason that doesn't advance the plot one bit. I don't get it.

Watched mother (the 2009 one), and i liked it. Not quite the quality of memories of murder or parasite, but still quite good. Halfway through the film it started getting a bit boring i thought, but really picked up at the end, good twist. 4/5
Watched The Lost City
Honestly, I thought it was shit, but your enjoyment may vary. I just didn't find it funny at all.
Sandra Bullock is going into Bruce Willis territory right now. Taking on shit project and acting with disinterest.

How on earth did I think this was a semi-serious movie? It's just really bad, do not watch, might be the worst written movie I've seen in ages. Chinese propaganda makes it so icky too (not to say USA doesn't do it either).
