Hang on, is it right that Avatar 2 only has HFR on certain scenes and only sometimes on bits of scenes?
Fell asleep on Glass Onion twice.. Don't know.. Despite the casting, it is much weaker than Knives Out
By Punished Go To PostGlass Onion was mid imoagreed.. Just stealing Netflix money..
By Laboured Go To PostHang on, is it right that Avatar 2 only has HFR on certain scenes and only sometimes on bits of scenes?Yes. It's like the DUNE super imax ratio where only certain scenes use it.
By s y Go To PostYes. It's like the DUNE super imax ratio where only certain scenes use it.but.. why?
By diehard Go To Postbut.. why?Because it's fucking immersive as fuck. Have you never been to an IMAX movie?
By Lunatic Go To PostBecause it's fucking immersive as fuck. Have you never been to an IMAX movie?70MM film is expensive as hell and it makes sense why only some scenes are shot on it. Some scenes being high frame rate and some not in what (I'm assuming) is almost an entirely CG movie? Why?
Sorry about the confusion in my post.
I mean when video games do that it's fucking trash territory. But when Cameron does it, it's a technical showcase.

By Laboured Go To PostThat's the most hack shit I've ever heard of. That's absolutely stunningly incompetent.Ahhh I see yea that would be jarring as fuck for us nerds who notice framerate changes.
Daniel Craig was great in KO2, the movie was a 2.5/5 though, could have done without seeing it.
Still thinking about Kate Blanchette's role in Tar, what an actress.

By Crusher Go To PostHFR works better when there’s a lot of movement.
I’ve seen it in HFR and non HFR now. It makes a massive massive difference for the under water sequences, but looks really janky for specific shots where the screen is full of action but the camera is too steady.
I think the underwater stuff with 48 is so good that it’s the only way to see the movie, but making the entire thing 48 would’ve made too many non action scenes look like ass. So instead Cameron decided to mix 48 with 24. I’d say he makes the right choice 75% of the time but that other 25% is definitely rough.
Ultimately it’s the right trade off imo but ymmv

Yup.
I will update my best film of 2022 list soon for daz, to include this. It's going to be high up. So be excited
Struggling to finish Glass Onion.
also: 15 seconds after his appearance, I understood the comment about Edward Norton being a massive miscast 💀

Norton was a perfect casting. Solid actor with an annoying voice doing a great job playing a total whiny buffoon. Not really sure how he is miscast unless you just think he did a bad job or consider him a bad actor.
Couldn't be arsed to go down cinema so just watched This Ain't Avatar 2: Escape from Pandwhora instead. Real kino.

true cinema.
what format did you end up going with?
Unfortunately the only format available to me was a 10GB 1080p BluRay x264 rip with Dolby Direct 2.0 audio.
really liked knives out, so sad to see glass onion was so... meh. not horrible. but proper 2.5/5 film
cant be bothered with the was edward norton miscast or not, but... certainly seemed like he didnt care much for working on it.much prefer the family drama of the first one, where i still remember all the characters afterwards. in this one i really barely remember their names. only Ma was a good character other than Blanc. the rich people satire was far better done in triangle of sadness.
meh.
edit: actually 2/5 is more appreciate thinking about it. cause i actually started watching at a faster speed on netflix at some point.

Well, I saw Avatar 2 the other night. Enjoyed it way more than I thought I would, much better than the 1st I thought. It still doesn't have a particularly interesting story or script, but visually it was fantastic and they trimmed out a lot of the stuff that I didn't like about the 1st. I guess it just felt refreshing in a way to watch a silly fantastical blockbuster that wasn't just some superhero shite.
Also just watched Aftersun. Great movie, but fuck I can't remember a sadder watch in quite a long time. Which is a sign of some pretty amazing filmmaking because nothing overtly sad happens in particular really. Maybe give it a miss if you have a complicated relationship with a parent, or parents though...

Wife has never seen Vertigo and damn each time I watch this this shit is more and more psychotic. Jimmy Stewart as a deranged creep is so good. Cinematography, the Bernard Hermann score, the animated dream sequences… all absolutely top notch. What a film. Probably my favourite Hitchcock alongside North By Northwest.

Rope probably my fave. Great fun.
Seems like glass onion's reception has been pretty underwhelming. Haven't gotten a chance to see it myself.

What an eclectic filmography - the early British films are so fascinating and then there’s quirky shit like Saboteur which has both his best beginning and ending sequences while everything else in between in that film is so bad lol.
