By diehard Go To PostIts just you and I, Lunatic.Like you said the subject matter is my jam. Also Cillian Murphy is a top tier actor.
I know fuck all about the subject matter but Nolan + Murphy = me in, day 1, popcorn + chocolate + Coke Zero combo.
My $50 CAD is ready.

Yeah, I liked it too. Wish it had some actual singers in the leads though.
There is no publicly available, definitive answer as to the exact dollar amount, but overall, the film is reported to have cost Disney $350 million, according to Variety. Even with that big of a price tag, it’s still not the most expensive movie ever made; that title belongs to Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, which cost $379 million.I would not have guessed that. Wouldn't have guessed Avengers Age of Ultron would be #2.

Cool, the movie was boring as hell though and his run at the end looked so stupid. All Quiet on the Western front was a proper WW1 movie.
Just out of Avatar: The Way of Water. I enjoyed it, an event movie. I was going to say I enjoy it for the spectacle but that would be doing it a disservice.
HFR was interesting.
"No man steps in the same water twice" - Jim Cameron.

I'm watching Elvis right now...and this is not how you do a bio-pic for someone like Elvis. It's insane, staggered, fast cuts, full of nonsensical montages, odd visual effects...such a mess, so far. Butler's pretty good in it, but everything else just doesn't fit or make any sense. It'd make sense for a Michael Jackson bio-pic, but not Elvis.

I didn’t think the film was very good, but struck me that Luhrmann’s style is exactly the way you tell the Elvis story. American excess and showmanship writ large.
Watched Banshees of Inuyasha, really enjoyed it, although everything after the fingers start coming off didn't really work for me.

i honestly quite enjoyed Avatar.
3D and IMAX certainly helps quite a bit. i don't think i will ever watch it again, certainly not at home but i will be there for Avatar 3 (maybe not for 4&5).

By DiPro Go To Postthat's a pretty good decline for a normal blockbuster.Yeah. Also normal blockbusters don't need 1.25-1.5B$ to break even. Avatar 2 is going to do fine but people were expecting 2B+$ which will be a bit hard but not impossible. Avatar 2 has very little competition in the next month.
just not for Cameron.
i'm watching it this week, and i'm expecting great things, but i would really like for him to make other films than avatar for the rest of his career.
the third will be the last one inshallah.

Pretty sure he’s already filmed bits of 4.
edit: Landau later declared that a third of Avatar 4 has already been filmed for "logistical reasons"
i don't think that's going to happen if 2 and 3 don't perform well enough.
think 3 is already shot, so that's definitely happening.

2 and 3 will still gross a billy each and 4(the first act is already shit) and 5 will get green lit.
Reading what American liberals make of the politics of Avatar on twitter. It's activating the same parts of my brain when I read CEO posts on LinkedIn.

Hope Avatar does well enough. I’m befuddled by the amount of hate and criticism it’s getting by some people. Seems completely out of place.

But over the last few years, it's dawned on me on how franchised media has become. There is a lack of pop culture around avatar that permiates other films and franchises, its not fast and furious, or marvel or Harry Potter.
It's its own weird thing with a fairly ho hum cast and a simple plot. And it's better for it. Having no psychotic fandom is why I'm rooting for it.
Avatar (franchise)
Avatar is an American media franchise created by James Cameron, which consists of a planned series of epic science fiction films produced by Lightstorm Entertainment and distributed by 20th Century Studios, as well as associated merchandise, video games and theme park attractions.[1] The Avatar franchise is one of the most expensive franchises ever undertaken, with the combined budget of the first film and its four sequels estimated at $1 billion.
The little film that could, lads.

By Lupercal Go To PostIsn't it still a Disney property though?Yeah, it is - like most things now unfortunately.
the disdain for it began way before the 20th Century Fox buyout.
By Daz Go To PostI don't get it either.I think it's because it's a new IP that actually takes its subject matter seriously and it's not an adaptation of a bunch of young adult works.

As far as F&F, it's a miracle it actually caught on it like it did but until the the fifth (could argue 4th?) installment it wasn't exactly a box office notable.
