Watched 3/4 of Mark Cousins' Story of Film TNG. Really recommend it, as it's only one episode/2 hours it doesn't meander or anything.
Only watched 3/4 because I've gone to see Smile now. 🙂
Ahahaha there's been a town wide blackout as the film started. Lights out.

Hoping he can bounce back from the Northman. Really like his other movies.
What's Hereditary's director up to?

God, I thought it was so boring. A film made for grandads.

saw it today. like it quite a bit. would've liked it better if it wasn't so hollywood for the lack of a better term--it was too slick/clean--and the soundtrack could've been better, but, overall, it did many things well.
great performances all around, and it reminded me that damon is a good actor. hadn't seen him in anything in a while.
also, i love bernthal. dude is good everything.
I get that it's not a conventional bio-pic and it's basically a horror but Blonde is a bit of a stinker. The accent is funny though.

It seems like Hellraiser won't be on Disney+ outside the US. Australia will get it on Paramount+ and there are rumours that the UK won't get it until April, no word for other territories.

By FortuneFaded Go To PostIt's on Hulu on the US, Hulu originals normally go to Disney+ outside the US as it happened with Prey recently but it seems like Disney are to fucking scared of putting something as twisted like Hellraiser there, which doesn't make much sense as American Horror Story is on the service.
Festival update
Alcarras - meh
All Quiet on the Western Front - good
Triangle of Sadness - pretty good
Le Otto Montagne - very good

Watched a film called Vesper tonight. For a low budget film it looked great, really great.
Everything else was merely ok. Felt a bit thin. A bit like the plot points had been plucked from a hat filled with sci-fi post apoc dystopia subgenres.

By Laboured Go To PostBullet Train was very bad.i thought it was fine, would have edited it differently but was entertaining enough for a single watch
Smile was fairly mid.
Quite unruly crowd. Spent my walk home thinking of some solutions: we recite a cinematic Nicene Creed before the film to encourage us to behave; the cinema manager gives us the eyeball and decides who gets in ("Nicht abend, mein Freund"); ban women (preferred solution)

By s y Go To PostThe suspiria remake is better than the OG if you haven't seen itIt's such a different movie from the original that I wouldn't call a remake but more "inspired by".
The OG is worth a watch, I need to watch the 4K remaster, HDR is going to be godlike.

Anyway, saw Smile and Barbarian
The former is a mid copycat of It follows and the latter is damaged by some of the dumbest decision-making by characters in any horror movie ever.
