surprised you rank the wrestler so lowly.
what a beautiful film.
if rourke had played a gay wrestler, he would've won the oscar over penn (who also played a gay dude that year) imho.

It is more insulting that you have ranked them incorrectly. Mother over RFAD, Wrestler and Fountain. What a world we have created for ourselves.
Out of the phictiúrlann for Róise & Frank. Not bad. Woman's husband reincarnated as a dog to teach various moral lessons.
Second Irish language film of the year. Tá an gaeilge beag agam.

By Punished Go To PostYeah, big fan.
I liked it, quite sad. You guys gotta get some new houses over in Ireland though. 4.5/5

Speak (2004) - I expected it to be more corny since it's a coming of age/early 2000s movie. Good performance from Kirsten steward as well, especially considering she was 13(?). 7/10
Watched Twister last night
Philip Seymour Hoffman's character might be one of the most annoying characters of all time.

Rewatched Rogue One in 4K HDR in preparation for Andor, as any respectable SW fan would.
Best looking SW movie. Script is all over the place, especially in the second half, clearly not even Tony Gilroy could fix the movie, but it sure looks good.

By Laboured Go To PostThis gonna be an actual Cloverfield production from the start or another film that began as an original idea, but Abrams bought out and co-opted into his Cloverfield universe.
By Perfect Blue Go To PostA24 horror movies incredible streak of shit 🚮Scorcese loved it and a lot of people are saying that Mia Goth gives one of the best acting performances of the year.

Speaking of horror movies, Smile had a brilliant piece of marketing last night.
I saw a video of the woman in day-glo and the camera panned to her and she wasn't smiling. I hope the studio can get their money back.
Avatar (2D) was fine.
Stereoblind so it's interesting to see people on letterboxd who've seen the rerelease in 3D still talk about the 3D being a near transcendent experience.
Again, have no conception of it but would it improve Bresson's A Man Escaped? I think I know the answer.

Just finished a rewatch of Gladiator.
Fuck me what a movie. It nailed the pomp required of a blockbuster but had enough intimate moments so that you didn't feel completely detached from it. And the soundtrack is fucking perfect.

By reilo Go To PostBuT Its NOt HiSTORicaLLy accURaTEYep. I've had this same thought like 10 years ago when I watched 300. Movies are made to entertain and make money. Provided they don't set themselves out as being accurate to the accepted history, we shouldn't care about the liberties they take. Provided they aren't completely ridiculous.
If I want an accurate retelling, I'll study it or read a book.
By Daz Go To PostWhat was historically inaccurate about Gladiator? The gladiator battles didn’t have them advertising and shilling products.
The Tiger?
Djimon Honsu?
“Scott also stated that due to the influence of previous films affecting the public perception of what ancient Rome was like, some historical facts were "too unbelievable" to include. For instance, in an early version of the script, gladiators would have been carrying out product endorsements in the arena; while this would have been historically accurate, it was not filmed for fear that audiences would think it anachronistic.”
Some historian complaints about characters, time, and setting. Dumb shit. It's fiction.
There's a whole wiki section for the movie and it bothers me to no end.
