Following some of the best reviews of her career in Emily the Criminal, Aubrey Plaza has found that next big feature film. Sources say she is set to join the ensemble cast of Francis Ford Coppola’s passion project Megalopolis. The film already stars Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight and Laurence Fishburne.I hope Coppola's wine-financed socialist screed is every bit the beautiful disaster I'm anticipating
Deadline was first to break the news that the iconic director would be moving forward with the project later this year with Coppola directing the independently financed film from his own script. Here’s how he has described the contemporary drama to Deadline in the past: The fate of Rome haunts a modern world unable to solve its own social problems in this epic story of political ambition, genius and conflicted love.
The budget will be just under $100 million, and production begins this fall. Distribution rights are being brokered by attorney Barry Hirsch.

In an interview translated from French with Skript, as seen on Youtube, Bilall Fallah, one of the directors for the recently canceled Batgirl movie, revealed that his fellow director, Adil El Arbi, tried to get him to salvage some of the footage on his phone.
Sadly, when Fallah went on the server, "everything was gone," including all of the scenes with Michael Keaton's Batman.
In the same interview, the two directors confirmed that there were still additional scenes to be shot, and almost no VFX was present, so even if they wanted to, they would not be able to release a finished film.
They really didn't want people to see it.
Probably one of those movies that was really good in everyone's imaginations.

Because its awful. CW level awful
You guys do know if Matt Damon was giving an interview in the early 2000s he'd be saying that DVDs were ruining everything
Same old same old
Same old same old
He said nothing of it ruining movies just discussing that certain type of movies are not being made due to finances.
Profitability isn't dropping, it's just consolidating into massive projects. Declining home media isn't the reason midbudget adult movies aren't being churned out, skyrocketing expectations for individual movie returns is
They can still fail spectacularly, but if it wasn't streaming they'd be blaming something else that didn't exist ten years ago

Actors and creators are seeing less residuals in general. That's not actually the fault of the medium (streaming in this case), it just appears that way to people who remember a different one that happened to exist when compensation was higher. Back-end payoff could absolutely be a thing again, but corporations will always look to cut out distribution of profits when they have a chance. The latest medium is a useful scapegoat
Essentially, people stop making certain movies for ideological or social reasons. The exact same amount of money is still changing hands, some people are just seeing less of it

DVDs helped the business and saved movies. I'd be shocked to find high profile actors deriding when it saved franchises and kept other franchises going long than they originally would.

I guess all I'm saying is a lot of the bemoaning of change strikes me as middle aged people remembering the good old days. When it's all about making some number higher at the expense of everything else, the actual means of production and its outcome, in this case midbudget young matt damon dramas, is completely random. There's a world where no one saw a dime from dvds, if the structure for payout didn't exist

Batgirl wasn't cancelled because of ideological reasons, man lmao
Not digging too deep into this bag but Wonder Woman got made 40 years after Superman
Batgirl would've had to be a Spider-Man 2 level masterpiece to not jump right to the top of Discovery's chopping block

By Not Go To PostWhat do you mean PB“Ideological reasons” lol come on bro you should know the nature of capitalism and mostly anything else in the world happens due to material reasons
By RATHasReturned Go To PostDVDs helped the business and saved movies. Physical media dying or being niche is awful for the industry at large.
By Perfect Blue Go To Post“Ideological reasons” lol come on bro you should know the nature of capitalism and mostly anything else in the world happens due to material reasonsRight, but I'd posit that the people capitalizing on those conditions respond to them through their own personal biases
Beyond the surface level, I'd still guess that industry changes trend towards consolidation of wealth, and the actual medium doesn't change that. Nostalgia makes people think that the distribution method that didn't exist when they were in high school is what's screwing them over, when in reality it's the same opportunism and greed that always existed
My guy Matt Damon knows more about the finances of movie making than you do
"ideological" or "social" reasons foh
"ideological" or "social" reasons foh
Damon used a good example too of how insane budgets have gotten. Soderbergh is used to making low budgets and with Beyond The Candelabra I guarantee at least 30%, maybe more, of that initial 25m budget was to pay Michael Douglas and Damon’s salary.
By Crusher Go To PostActor who gets paid 10 million per role says movies are too expensive to make.I blame pirates. They're hurting the industry.

By Pedja Go To PostI blame pirates. They're hurting the industry.Pirates are celebrating. 4k HDR rips on kino release day thanks to streaming services.
Probably don't partition films and tv shows exclusively (but for a limited time only known to the licensors) on to 15 different subscription platforms imo.
Escape From New York has some beautiful shots, especially if you're into that delapidated city streets at midnight vibe
Some very strange editing in the second half of the film, like it cuts to different scenes mid-musical cue. Not gonna bother with the sequel, the bits and pieces I've seen of it are horrendous. The infiltration is much more fun than the escape. Any recommendations for films where the majority of it is spent intricately planning/committing a heist of some sort? Seen and enjoyed Widows, watched Ocean's Eleven like fifteen years ago and didn't like it, but can't remember why.
