By WoodenLung Go To Postthought about watching the square a few times, cause moss is great and it got good reviews.
turist is the only film from him i've seen, that was some proper scandinavian mediocre comedy though, and it also got great reviews
Good movie. Moss is barely in it though.
Prey
On Tuesday, Disney said the film scored the No. 1 premiere on Hulu to date, including all film and TV series debuts. Additionally, the pic was the most watched film premiere on Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ under the Star banner in all other territories, based on hours watched in the first three days of its release.
No great surprise but Prey was just another ok action film. Bear scene the highlight for me. Naru and her brother were less annoying than most teenage/early 20s protagonists in the genre which I appreciated. It looked nice.
But it was nowt special. 3 stars out of 5 and that is not unheard of.

With the help of Flawless (which Mann is co-CEO of), Fall’s post-production team utilized their TrueSync AI system to perform deepfakes on the actors in the film, making it appear that they were saying PG-13 approved expletives. Which for a film about being stuck on a 2000-foot radio tower without any way to get help, there wasn’t a lack of f-bombs to deal with.I'm glad we finally have the financial and technological resources now to protect 16-year-olds' virgin ears
“When we were filming the movie, we didn’t know if we were R or if we were PG-13, so I said the F-word so many times I think Scott wanted to kill me in post when we were trying to get a PG-13 rating,” said Fall star Virginia Gardner. Apparently, the deepfake tech is so good that Gardner couldn’t even tell which scenes of her’s were dubbed over, adding: “As far as I know, every movement my mouth made in that movie, my mouth made.”
It’s a rhetorical question. The wealth that exists in this country does not come from making things that people love. People spend money on that, obviously, but they’ve done that long enough that those industries have had time to optimize for their own preferences. The money that sustains all this is, in enough cases that it is worth noting here, coming from young rich people’s even richer parents. It is coming from giant corporations awarding it, whether out of ideological commitment or just force of habit, to people who sit behind desks all day. Some of those people might also make art, but they are not the norm. The structure built around these valuable creative products is bloated in ways that starve and imperil that creative process, but those privations also hold it in place. Baseball executives, when they are talking about the same sort of thing, like to use the phrase “cost certainty.”The stuff about residuals and overall pay in entertainment going down while compensation for execs goes up is worth a read. Wealth transfer as boomers die off estimated at 68 trillion, according to the article. The inheritors will sit on their ass and manipulate the people who are told to work hard so they can be like them
Here is the crux of the issue: If Sydney Sweeney cannot afford to take six months off, it is a safe assumption to make that no one in Hollywood without family money can. That means that even one of the most famous and in-demand actresses working right now is less secure than every nepotism baby who sauntered into an audition because their dad had been the legal counsel for Warner Bros. or whatever. It’s easy to see how this makes the art those studios produce worse, but also easy to see how it persists.
By Daz Go To PostYh, nepotism in Hollywood us huge, never realised just how many actors benefited from it.I often find myself watching something and there seems to always be one person where I think “how did they get this role?” then you look them up and they have family ties
most big names have some uncle who was a casting director or dad who was a big name in college theater or w/e
There was also the Jaden Smith experiment for a bit.
In an industry where you cant really fake talent, it's pretty nuts that it's still about who know.

Read that article last night and it was gud. Also made me like Sweeney even more. Idk if she still does it but her alt ticktok account where she just works on cars in a garage is quite cool.

By bud Go To Posthonestly? we’re all actors.Settle down Hideo.
By Not Go To Postits true tho.
Just reading about her. Seemed to have a cursed family.
Her dad died of AIDS in the 80's.
One sibling died of a heart defect in infancy.
Another sibling died, coincidentally, in a car crash when they were 18.
Another sibling died of a brain tumour in 2006.

RIP
Heche had a really fucked up upbringing but even still I'm just happy she only managed to kill herself with that dumb shit
Sienna Miller and Sam Worthington will star with Kevin Costner in Horizon, leading the ensemble cast of Costner’s passion project Horizon. Costner, who is directing, producing and financing, is casting up the historical epic that begins production August 29 in Utah. Jamie Campbell Bower, who plays the villainous Vecna in Stranger Things, is also part of the cast, the actor announced on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show.No thank you
How is Sam Worthington still getting gigs?
Never seen anyone luck into a role the way he did with Avatar. The character didn't have much going for him tbf.

And newly installed Warner Bros. Pictures Group chiefs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, in seeking to mend fences with “Batgirl” star Leslie Grace, are entertaining the possibility of having her continue to play Batgirl in a future DC film (or, at least, star in another Warner Bros. production).Yeah something tells me that may not happen
Enjoyed Nope a lot. Technically outstanding, with a real sense of composition and awe-inspiring imagery. Good performances, great score. Saw it in rumbly seats.
Some really interesting stuff about the nature of exploitation and consumer culture.

I also liked Nope. A lot less silly than Us. Could have been tighter though, basically all of Yeun's stuff was pointless and could have been lifted out

I thought it made a good point about how we even try and commodify trauma. I felt it adjacent to the plethora of films, docs, etc. about 9/11 or whatever else, and how his coping mechanism is to play up to the infamy in order to profit off people’s desire for morbid spectacle, all culminating in him literally selling tickets to people that end up being consumed. Could have done with a bit more of him tbh.
