Arteta isn't even an Arsenal legend :lol
If he was the assistant to Steve Bruce or David Moyes they wouldn't have looked sideways at him.

Club legend/ex-player, yeah the working under Pep element was obviously key but would Arsenal have gone for Pep’s assistant if it was say…Frank Lampard?! I’m not so sure.
Long may it continue though. I mean I suppose we did it once when Ashley appointed Shearer 💀
There was a point last year or so when United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Fulham and Tottenham all had ex-players managing them, and Villa, Newcastle, Sheff Utd and Palace had fans of the club managing them.
Xavi will do it
He turned Al Sadd into Al Happy
He can achieve anything

Tbf, we didn’t just hire Arteta because of his assistant work with Pep, he was also highly regarded as a future coach when he was playing at Arsenal. Other players have commented on how meticulous he was every day.
Lampard wouldn't have got the job if the transfer ban hadn't happened. It was far too early for him, and so it proved.
Still, he could have left a worse legacy. He promoted a couple of youth players that played a vital role in the CL win, and are now mainstays in the squad. Time will well, but he might have also pushed through a change of culture which results in us actually using our youth players properly.
It's almost certainly a generous take, but eh.

He took the team as far as he could and passed the Baton on to more capable hands, whilst preserving his legacyp and legend status at the club.
Us on the other hand, refused to acknowledge the point the baton should have been passed, ole's built a good squad, and is now actively destroying it and any chance of success. Cavani, Pogba and VDB are surely gone in the summer.
Just a list off the top of my head of some managers who got their first job or first big job at their former club.

Our home form is so dire I can’t take anyone seriously who thinks we’re getting a result here.
I’d be more confident at the Etihad.

Much smaller scale, but Ståle Solbakken came back from death , and became the most successful Copenhagen coach of all time, really the most successful coach in Danish football of all time and with European success no club had ever seen here before. Time after time out performing teams in Europe, with many times the budget.
Bo Svensson just took over Mainz last season and turned a certain relegation into one of the best performing teams for the remainder of the season, and doing good this season too

I think Lampard did alright given his circumstances.
Not good enough for Chelsea, obviously, and definitely not a manager on the level of Tuchel - but the transfer ban was a really tough position to be in.
I think Pep would struggle if he couldn’t spend £50m on a fullback every summer.

Dalglish won 3 leagues and 2 fa cups. The club were banned from Europe for the entirety of his first tenure

That's only half the truth. He came back when the budgets were being cut hard, and also took over thre director of football role, which was a failure both from him and the management.
Still had some very impressive runs in Europe (don't gorget quarter finale of Europa league, with united needing diving to get through in extra time), and qualified ahead of atalanta and so on. But on the home league front it was shit, but that's how it when you're turning your whole club into being a talent factory rather than a club. Only gotten worse since he left.
Lampard definitely did okay all things considered but it was easy to hate on him near the end for saying the players aren’t good enough and not ready to win.

You could probably include Souness as well, even though he did have 5 seasons at Rangers first. He was possibly one of the worst managerial appointments of all time given the long term damage he did

You either die a Lampard or you cling on long enough to become an Ole.
Lampard managed to get fourth in his first season despite all the limitations in place. So fair fucks to him for that.
If I could choose a game to sum up his reign, it would be the 4-4 with Ajax. Utterly bonkers.

That was terrible from Bailey. But also what is Bruno and whoever is out on the right doing there? Just looking at cancelo Cross

As expected the football smooth brains will blame that goal on Bailly but true football experts™ know better

Cowards.
Bailly is just ensuring our inevitable 5-1 win feels hard earned.
