Isn't it the point that we are just functionally worse across the board compared to last season.
Two top class attackers and a word class defender and we are massively worse in defence and barely any better in attack.

We've a massive problem with McTominay as well. He's been pretty awful for most of the season. He offers little to the defence when it comes to protecting them and he's not good enough to effectively progress the ball from midfield.

Donny is so much better. But won't play.

Ole plays a midfield system that doesn't suit a single one of our 5 CMs, then doesn't even make it a priority to bring in any CMs that would.
Worst part of this series of games against Atalanta has been listening to the disrespect dished out by the pundits. Calling them Atlanta, calling them a poor team that plays in a poor league.
No respect for the opposition indeed.

By Laboured Go To PostOle plays a midfield system that doesn't suit a single one of our 5 CMs, then doesn't even make it a priority to bring in any CMs that would.I remember Carl Anka writing an article about our midfield last season and highlighting the deficiencies in it. I think he concluded that McFred was the best combination we had because they were the best athletes and each had certain strengths on and off the ball that the other didn't which meant we were just about covered in midfield.
He did highlight that essentially it meant we had the ability of one decent midfielder but spread across the two players. Which leaves us at a severe disadvantage against a side that's in any way competently coaches. And we've done nothing to address that.
By Laboured Go To PostCarl Anka was hounded off Twitter for that opinion and his view that United just aren't that good.Yep. Was gonna mention that actually. One of his last articles from before his sabbatical was pointing out the many tactical problems United were starting to show. He got a ton of shit for that, but he essentially predicted the last 6 weeks of terrible performances.
He also got on Solksjaers bad side by questioning his tactics in a press conference. He was dead right about it too, but got dogs abuse from some fans anyway.
Doesn't seem like he's written anything for The Athletic for over a month now either. Hope he's doing alright.

I was wondering why I wasn't seeing more of hit takes on here.
Shame, he was really good too.

They are the hyperactive toddlers of English football, equally capable of moments of startling insight and unfettered joy as they are of throwing valuable household ornaments into the toilet.
By Cleff Go To PostIf we lose to City at the weekend that will be a win, draw and loss since the press reported that Olé had three games to save his job. The results haven't been good enough, the performances have been dire, yet we're all certain that he'll keep his job.
You’ll beat us at the weekend.
Perhaps they will bring us sweet release.
United board upon losing 8-0 on aggregate to Bayern: "Well this is a building season and the result ignores the great deal of excellent work and progress that Ole and his team have made"

Your lad Doyle... not quite what he looked like he was going to be. Just not a defender. Might work out as a holding midfielder at an ok level but not gonna make it as an elite player imo.
Some of our gimp fans saying he'd get 100 England caps looked like spenks even early on. Now... lmao.

FWIW I don't think we'll see another 0-5 defeat. We conceded three of those from our suicidal, uncoordinated pressing which Liverpool played through so easily. We'll play three at the back again and bring Fred back in to cover more ground.
We're drilled so poorly that I expect City to pull us out of shape, get some runners in behind and score a few. It'll probably be a humiliation of a performance, but not a humiliating scoreline.

Just catching up where I left off, Atalanta should have really finished the game but let United (Ronaldo) get back into it.
How many goals is this for Ronaldo now? Seems like he's already paid for himself. Legend.

Damn, Geriatric George managed to get 10 on agg. Good job. Where is that daft bitch lambda? He's missing since his boy has been exposed as a fraud? For the 2nd time too, he was already a bum last time he was in the country.
Asinine fanbase. Good players are sold for cheap, young promising players have stunted development because their names are spelled wrong, mediocre players are applauded and elevated to legendary status. A board that has been caught stealing club money is re-elected when its head is sent to do some jail time.
Club is done, start over.

The fact the lad has done it in various leagues always is the one + he will get over Messi, who can't seem to last 90mins in France at the moment.
By Eternity Go To PostBen Fica will make the KO rounds for sure. Barcelona are a mess.In shambles Barcelona will make sure that embarrassment in the 1st game is set right, don't worry.
Geriatric George to get the sack before December. Well, maybe not. He'll probably get a new contract as his old one is due at the end of the season.

The one + Messi will always have over Ronaldo is that he's a better footballer, goal scorer, passer, dribbler. And not a rapist.
Ok maybe that's more than one
Ronaldo has the prestigious "done it in multiple leagues" title though 🙏
(Calm down just bantering FM)

Depends. Are you for or against rapists, brother?
That article Clegg posted is fantastic:
And so it was a system set up for defensive cover. But also dominating possession. But also playing the ball through midfield. But also the counterattack.
Much has been written and said in recent weeks about United’s reluctance to press from the front, but the real issue here isn’t so much that United don’t press, it’s that some of them do, and some of them don’t, and almost never all of them at the same time. Fernandes is an enthusiastic presser, although – arrestingly – often the only one. Rashford wants to press but isn’t really very good at it.
Ronaldo, meanwhile, presses with all the enthusiasm of the guy who fumbles for his wallet when the bill arrives, but has no intention of actually getting it out. And when you have scored as many goals as he has, decided as many games, it’s probably a little late in the day to start quibbling about his defensive output. He’s here now, he’s going to play, and very often he’s going to rescue a game with two goals out of absolutely nothing and keep your Champions League campaign on track single-handedly.
This is the Faustian pact you willingly enter when you turn your team into a Ronaldo-pleasure machine. The studio pundit sees a defence in chaos and a midfield overrun and a star striker simply strolling around waiting for someone to give him the ball. But the chaos isn’t the flaw in the system; it is the system. It’s baked in, priced in, hardwired. Ronaldo will solve the problems that Ronaldo creates. Ronaldo will restore the supremacy that Ronaldo has helped to surrender. And if that sounds like a recipe for a team powered by chance, vibes and pure, blind circumstance: well, that’s just the genius in action.
Sounds like Emery will say no, which I fully expected...we're just too far gone in the league now. Will mean Howe, which I didn't want (I'd have no problem with it if we weren't 19th) but I don't think it's a bad appointment. With Emery I think we'd have been 50/50 to go down, with Howe it remains about 70/30.
Cheers to Big Mike and Steve once again.

Howe might be a decent appointment to get you back up long term, if it comes to that. With the funds available he should be able to get you playing some good stuff as well.
It sucks for them but Newcastle might need to take the hit and play the long game.

By n8 dogg Go To PostThat article Clegg posted is fantastic:Such a silly article. Utd aren't playing bad because they have to service Ronaldo, we are playing bad because we play terrible football and are poorly coached and managed and yet he keeps bailing us out. In case it isn't fucking obvious by now we don't even play to his strengths but he keeps coming up with these clutch moments. Its ironic because I was hoping we'd lose against Spurs and this match so the board would be forced to make a managerial change and yet Ronaldo keeps scoring these clutch goals with such technical difficulty....
City wanted to sign Ronaldo to score goals so his lack of pressing isn't an issue, just as it isn't really our issue. Most of our forwards, excepting Cavani, don't really press either. Our issue is that there isn't a defined pattern of play to our game. No system or specific structure. Tactically we are very naïve and don't have the appropriate DM to shore up or cover for our midfield deficiencies. We don't press and when we do press we press haphazardly.
You can slate Ronaldo for being a rapist but blaming him for our malaise is ridiculous.

i agree with scently. all these journalists coming out of the woodwork to sort of put the blame on ronaldo's role in the team is amusing when it's been very clear that united have been quite bad under ole for pretty much his entire tenure.
but i suppose you can't expect most journalists to look past results (good or bad).
