I remember getting slapped 3-1 by Palace and getting pumped 6-2 by Spurs at this stage.
Spurs match was an aberration exacerbated by an early sending off. Fergie got beat 6-1 by City and we didn’t all cry for his sacking.
It is a fact Ronaldo starting has changed our tactical profile from when Greenwood or Cavani do. That affects how we attack. It affects how we defend. It affects how we build play and affects how we affect play. Simple as that. There is a notable change from last year’s and seemingly a more long-term one.

Seems we're now back to unhappy United players leaking details of training ground discontent to the media. I think this is the third time this has happened during Solksjaers tenure? Performances and results dip and the rumblings begin.
Olé has some talent as a manager as he's pulled things away from disaster twice before. That's something Moyes, LVG and Mourinho failed to do. But this third time could be different. We have a far better starting XI than in previous years. Olé could get away with his when he could play the underdog role. Not anymore tho. The players demand better from him and his coaching team.
Plus, the rallying cries have less impact the more they have to be used. You can't keep getting players to back you with the message that things will be ok, when you're now on your third breakdown in performances.

Leaves a fit Bailly on the bench for an unfit Maguire.
Leaves a fit VDB on the bench for McTom mere days after surgery.
When the manager has clear favourites that he will play regardless of form or fitness. People will start talking.
No youths will come through either because the manager is constantly trying to save his ass as a result of his own poor judgement and decisions.
today we either continue the arteta redemption arc or we are reminded that arteta is a terrible manager, maybe both

I actually think Solksjaer is doing the right thing with most of our young players. We're exploiting the loan market far more than in previous years and getting our young players some valuable experience. If you're a prodigy like Greenwood, and to a lesser extent Amad, you'll go straight into the first team squad. But very few players are at that level and need more polishing. It's unfair to expect them to come into the side and make a positive impact with little.to no experience under their belts.
Garner and Laird were seen as some of our better prospects and rather than have them get stuck in the logjam at senior level they've both gone on loan and excelled in the Championship. Chong has also gone on loan and done well. It's far better for their long term development. I expect we'll see Elanga and maybe Shoretire go out on loan next. Hannibal might be in that class of player who goes straight into the first team squad.

People blaming Ronaldo for all our problems, forgetting the rubbish that was the Southampton and Wolves games before Ronaldo came in. Ronaldo is a player we didn't need but they got him anyway to add to our plethora of attacking players while neglecting the most pressing of areas in our team. That plus we don't seem to have any actual playing style apart from hoping somebody among the attacking players we have on the field does something.
Having Ronaldo on the side changes our playstyle, but our problems are not new at all. Bruno for example has been gradually moving forward from MF to AM to SS due our lack of referential CF before we had Cavani, Greenwood couldn't fill the role and we relied solely on Martial. Now we have 3 good CF options yet he hasn't been coached to be more influential deeper where we need him again. He's still running into the box and shooting wildly from outside.
We've had plenty of games like these over the past seasons where we scramble for results. Luck has ran out on behalf of lack of coaching.

I rarely (ever?) see anyone just talk about Topher as your only problem, but he has added to them. It's true though, with that midfield and fucking Ole as your manager, it would never get good either way.
On a macro level we've problems with the wider squad as well. We've far too many players that play in wide areas now. Rashford, Sancho, Greenwood, Lingard, Amad, Pellistri and Elanga are all either demanding, or will soon be demanding minutes.
For Amad it's also an imperative that he plays as much as possible. United sources were repeatedly reported as saying they'd thought they'd gotten the next big thing. But he's barely played in the year we've signed him. He's someone who's potential should not be wasted. But there's no room for him currently.
Some of these problems could have been alleviated by not signing Ronaldo when we clearly didn't have a plan for him. And also selling Lingard when his stock was high. But we've had to shove Greenwood wide again when the plan was originally to play him more up front. And Lingard is blocking the spot of a younger player. Like I know Lingard has been decent whenever he's had a chance this season, but he's clearly a player that we wanted to sell a few months ago. And one who'll never be good enough to be a regular.

:lol how on god’s earth have I ignored any of that
Neville is legitimately gaslighting the United fanbase here. I distinctly remember reading many articles over the last 7/8 years saying that United were far too forgiving of poor results from managers and sacked them usually 6 months after they should have been.
We've never sacked managers when we should. Always gave them more rope to hang themelves. Personally I've always felt that it was Woodward and the Glazers not having the balls to make a decision.
We won the FA Cup with LVG, but I've no idea how he made it to the end of his second season. Should've been sacked before Christmas. Moyes should've been sacked in February but meandered on until the end of April.
Some may not agree on this but I think we should've sacked Mourinho at the end of his second season. We were runners up in the league, but performances and results were already on the rapid decline. The CL knockout tie against Seville remains the low point of any United manager imo. Refusing to pick our best players and talking up the opposition as being a far bigger club than they actually were in order to deflect any criticism of him.
Would've spared us the third season meltdown which was fucking obviously coming too.

Why does Ole need time? Give him two holding midfielders and he still won’t manage to compete for a big trophy.
Of course neville won't call for his sacking. That's his m8.
And in Ole the board and owners have the perfect Yes man patsy who will shield them from the fans.

To be honest, as much as I'd like Ole and his crew out, I understand the hesitancy/reluctance/reasoning of the board in backing him. He came in right after Mou disaster class and stabilized/improved the mood. In his first full season in charge we got to like 3 semi finals and finished third in the league. Last season he finished second and got to EL final, which was lost on pens. If you are not looking closely it seems the club is on an upward trajectory. Clear improvements in terms of results and league position, so I get it. But I genuinely don't see us doing well this season. The signs have been there and I think its going to get bad. Teams seem to have figured us out. In other words, the poor coaching is really showing now.
By FortuneFaded Go To PostWhen should Fergie have been sacked?I wasn't even born when he was appointed. So I've no idea of the context when he was struggling in his first few years at the club. But looking at his age at that time and his accomplishments at Aberdeen it's clear he was a talented young coach in his prime. That's unlike LVG and Mourinho who were clearly past their best.
