First you gotta look at the military, then mass producers / supply chain sector, then
mass agriculture, then leisure eg air travel.
Putting it the blame at the feet of the individual is letting the systemic shit get a pass.
Same goes when corporations convinced everyone that the problem with waste was the individual not recycling their bottles.
By reilo Go To PostTwitter threads lie all the time.Exactly man it's all the commercial and governmental uses that contribute the considerable majority to carbon emission. Like you said putting it at the feet of the individual consumer is such a cop out. Wealthy nation states have the most ability to enact change in their own economies that have the capital to investment and implement green initiatives. And when I say green I don't just mean offsetting carbon emissions by buying up carbon credits or laying the onerous cost on individual producers. You have to attack the big businesses, but yea that will never happen.

No one brave enough to blame cows yet ay?

Eating less meat to reduce carbon emissions is a thing here.
Some woods near me were on the news yesterday because of a wildfire. It was right by the viewpoint so probably caused by someone chucking a lit cigarette off it into the dry shrubland

Hey, a good idea for once!
Mr Griffin, who is Deputy Government Chief Whip, said he was putting the proposal out there so urban people in the constituency would know what it feels like to be on the receiving end of "hare-brained proposals".Oh
He said it was very easy to shout from rooftops in urban areas at places 300km away, whether it was turf cutting or a liquefied natural gas terminal in Tarbert.
I don’t think that dude is saying emissions from cars are the largest factor in our emissions overall but rather just the transport sector. They absolutely don’t get enough scrutiny compared to air travel.

Do Americans fly a lot? I was surprised to learn a large portion of Americans don’t even have passports.
By Perfect Blue Go To Post😔I think it'd be jarring for a lot of overseas folks. Carbon footprint, air and boat travel, home output, greta.jpg get brought up way more often elsewhere. Even some of the usual "______ is a hypocrite!" talking points don't translate because a celebrity taking a private plane or bringing their entire security convoy with them is kinda whatever. Its probably easier to shame someone over wearing furs or supporting a blatantly ecologically destructive company than anything travel related.

I think the push for electric vehicles - and their survival against the gigantic american motor companies which also control what can even be sold at most dealerships - is the biggest and most improbable leap forward imo. The only reason I supported Tesla for as long as I did was because of how automakers formed like voltron to keep them out of the market and stomped any green technology advancement into the mud for decades. Times have changed tho etc
The passport thing is true. But domestically? I really don't think so outside of the big holidays. I haven't looked at those numbers in ages though. Americans in general just don't travel beyond their 100 home mile radius.
By Perfect Blue Go To Post😔Yes. A fuckton if they gotta cover any sort of distance.

No, but it might as well be, it's literally minutes away. Can't be outside right now, smokey fog all over, hard to breathe. The entire Karst region on the border between Italy and Slovenia has been burning for the past week and I've never seen fire come this close down into the valley.

What a terrible time to be alive.
That's my parents' house. We've been helping firefigthers & civil defence all day long. The wind is blowing in the other direction now thankfully, and the situation is not quite as dire as it looks, but yeah. How's your day going?

Why in the hell was I born in North Carolina and refuse to leave? Approximately 8 months of the year are unbearable. I would leave the kitchen, but that would not actually diminish the heat.

Fuck me, if that's a dry heat it might be survivable but if it's a wet heat, don't you fatally overheat because you can't sweat?
By Lupercal Go To PostFuck me, if that's a dry heat it might be survivable but if it's a wet heat, don't you fatally overheat because you can't sweat?Since it's the Southeast USA right along the gulf coast near the equator it's most definitely 100% humidity too
