I always see The Sopranos posted all over the place. Thought we could have a dedicated thread to the one of the greaterst shows of all time, especially with a movie coming out soon.
For me Pine Barrens might be the greatest episode of the show. Love how well Paulie and Chris always work together. Was surprised when someone mentioned recently it was directed by Steve Buscemi.

Always thought Pine Barrens was good fun but not close enough to the overarching story and not enough Gandolfini to be the GOAT episode.
I absolutely love the dream episodes after Tony’s been shot, I think they’re some of my favourites.

One of my early favs is when Tony finds a snitch.
Christopher constantly has to run into the rain to call from the payphone and Tony's ducking Meadow all the time to scoop out the guy.

Show is good but the portrayal of black people on it is terrible, like something Kurt Sutter would do. Every scene involving black people feels like it's from Saints Row cause of how out of touch it is.

i'm almost at this episode. early on in that season, one of the lads hangs himself.
later on in that episode, vito says something you only notice on a rewatch:
vito: "maybe he was a homo..."
💀
;_;

By You got 14 bricks right there? Go To PostShow is good but the portrayal of black people on it is terrible, like something Kurt Sutter would do. Every scene involving black people feels like it's from Saints Row cause of how out of touch it is.It's the obvious drawback of the show, but it's also going out of its way to depict the outright racism and insularity of its subjects. The absence of people of color even in the supporting cast feels like a choice
Big example is Tony's treatment of the biracial kid from Meadow's college. These people garroting and murdering their closest friends and family but we're surprised they're incredibly racist too. Tony's just selective about how he applies it, because he's smarter than the people he surrounds himself with

How could you do this to the sopranos fanbase?

well the characters, didnt even notice the spellcheck
but taking sopranos makes me wonder about the guy who played bobby

I only listened to one episode of Talking Sopranos, the College one. Steve Schirripa is, um, charismatic

I think he Schirripa is a good guy, just... Extremely dumb. Every time Michael tries to get into a deeper conversation with someone, and Schirripa interrupts with the most dumb ass questions, or bringing up how he or Michael cant get hard anymore or whatever.
Also this might be the dumbest conversation I've heard
Schirripa 'if you eat a steak will they kick you out of Buddhism?'
Imperioli 'it's... not about if you eat meat or not'
Schirripa 'but if you eat a steak.......'

also 💀

Doing a rewatch since last Sunday. Halfway through season 3 now.
Surprised by how little screen time the secondary characters get in season 1.
Just shows the toxic masculinity and how reputation matters so much.

That also surprised me on a re-watch. Did not remember how little attention some characters got at first. A lot of characters were also shown once and then not for a long time, like Johnny Sacks. Only in one scene in season 1, then a few in season 2, before he becomes an important factor to the story.

Season 1 is basically just Tony, Carmela, Livia and Junior. Even Melfi is just there for Tony to bounce off. So glad Chase decided to open it up a bit more.

They were opposed to letting Chase have Tony murder like that at first. When they finally caved in they made Chase add that the was a drug dealer as if that would justify the murder.
After that it was all good.

Decided to give it a rewatch.
I understand the importance of fleshing out Tony in the first season, but so much better when the side characters get more time. Makes the world feel much more lived in.

I hate all the characters, but by the end I hated Chris the most. I pumped my fist when Tony offed him.

Vito is probably the most unlikable character out there
Even when he's on the run he kills a civilian for essentially no reason

Vito is quite unlikable, and so in Christopher. But does anyone come close to Ralph. The guy is a maniac and just genuienly enjoys other peoples suffering. The way he is laughing when Sil beats up that stripper he is fucking lmao. But also... He kills that girl for no reason and so on.

I like Tony more because he murders all the characters I hate

But also… He kills that girl for no reason and so on.Every season pretty much needs a "wow this dude is worse than Tony" antagonist. There also is shit that gets written in specifically to remind us how awful these people are, it's why I kind of side-eye at the simple bigotry accusations thrown at the show. They're mobsters, they're absolutely gonna be wife beaters, overall misogynists, racists and homophobes.
But to answer the question they don't get much worse than Ralphie no, of course Phil is a special shitbag for killing Vito.

Arent those comments more to how the very few black characters are written, rather than how they are talked about by the mafia, who yeah, are obviously going to have horrible shit to say about just about anyone (except Columbus).
Livia is probably also up there as one of the biggest sociopaths in the show, and she is absolutely brilliant at it. She is fucking with so many people while barely even doing anything, all the fucking time. Such a shame they sent her off with that horrible scene. I dont understand why that was necessary, instead of just... Having her die off screen (as they did) and have the family at the funeral.
I also think I am one of the few people who love Johnny Sacks, never see him mentioned.

Much as I find Janice's shit comical it doesn't hold a candle to Livia's trolling.

One of my favorite Tony is a slime ball moments is when he juices his childhood friend played by Robert Patrick and in the end he explained how he knew his business would be able to recoup him money so he strung him along for it..

Yeah, was season 2.
Fucking brutal how he played him like that.
Was hilarious when he gives the car from him to Meadow. Complete prick move.
Meadow just said in the episode that I watched that he is now in a mental health institute.

By bud Go To Posti just got to the part where vito had enough of the regular life and went back to jersey. ;_;Big shit friend

I thought I had already posted it in here, but apparently not. Ever seen the mobster Vito was based off?
'By early 1982, Vito was the target of a manhunt by both law enforcement as well as Roy DeMeo and his crew' 💀

This is the worst scene in the whole show. It's crazy that made it, it stands out so badly. iirc it's also just a bad episode, and directed by CHRISTOPHA right?
