By inky Go To PostIf you couldn't tell, I'm still fucking #fuming about the EL final. The fact that Southgate has Ole'd his own just brought back all the memories.
Actually didn't feel like this felt anyway near as bad as the United one :lol. Mostly because United played an inferior team and had all of the ball and still fucked it.
How is his treatment of grealish questionable? I think people really overstate the impact he could have had imo. We got to the finals so for the most part surely his decisions were vindicated.
Ah well, fun ride to the final. All the lads did well, can’t blame them for missing the pens, so proud of them.
My boi Saka can’t dwell on this, he’s an amazing talent.

Yeah, my point earlier was lots of people pre-emptively shat on his game decisions but they worked out well, and now they didn't (ball ricocheting around the box from a set piece resulting in an equaliser and some penalty misses).
Ball control in midfield will remain a problem until we have the personnel for it. You can't just have a strategy to keep the ball without having players that can enact it, and you need the CMs for it at the top level.

Not like there werent people shaking their head, even when it worked out cause you have a better squad. Like when you went into ET against Denmark because he refused to sub players, when the whole Danish team was dead like 65 min in already.
Just shouting down everything to hindsight is amazing.
He made a 19 year old who never took a pen before, take the decider, ffs.
But if you are happy with that, good on you. I dont know, if I was English I would be fuming at some of those decisions.
Fans were trying to break into the stadium without tickets, fans inside trying to "help" by hitting them.

Not that either of us know the answer to this question, but do you think he did that for funsies, or because they've been training on penalties and they identified Saka as a good PK taker in training?

I believe he did so cause he's not a good coach. Most of the national teams coaches arent to be fair. Mancini being one of the exceptions.

Fair enough. I'd definitely agree that Mancini is a better coach/manager.
Mancini and Enrique
Forgetting one or two but yeah, national teams aren't really top level when it comes to coaches
Which is why Mourinho should become a national team coach
Because he sucks

Looking at the fire escape signs and having been to Wembley dozens of times I think it is paying fans (who have done covid tests) attacking people who have broken in. That explains why they are shouting "do your job" at the stewards
By Daz Go To PostThere's a lot of Ole in Southgate.
Maybe, but England suffers from the same deficiencies in midfield.

Not only this, but I wonder whether Pep would succeed at NT level.
At club level you ~60 sessions to build you style of play (in pore-season) whereas at NT level you around 6 with a constantly changing squad roster.

Players also wouldn't have time to get tired of Mou that way, it would be pretty perfect
At least Southgate has created a pretty comfortable environment for the players. All very nice bunch of lads. His man management is top notch at least.
Needs to improve his in-game management. He’s got a sensational bench.

England fans are the worst. Hope the lot of them are arrested. Put a dampener on the fucking tournament already.

Libertadores round of 16 midweek!
So excited, too bad Reirom is gone cause we could face his Fluminense if we beat Vélez.

Lmao..
The sharp increase in quality of play in the round of 16 showed that 16 teams is how many it should be. 24 is too many.

By Fergie Go To PostAnyway, Italy should drop Ciro off the bus tonight. Useless player. When he got subbed off our whole viewing party was shocked he was even playing lol
Anyway, I know there's zero chance of it happening but I'd tell Southgate to pack his shit. I've criticized him all along but the results have panned out his way so far until today. But he really coached a terrible tournament IMO. Nice guy and genuinely seems like a good face for England, but he's a terrible manager.
By Kidjr Go To PostReally annoyed that it was three black players that missed for England man, concerned about the potential backlash or how quickly they could all be turned on by media etc.
it's killing me. i think that's why am extremely pissed about this L even though I'm not English. i was so nervous for each of them and didnt feel good about the circumstances Southgate put upon them. Rashford/Sancho being icecold from barely playing. and Saka being a damn child. i feel like they were setup to fail
Would happily never watch Mount play again btw
Even if he's good, what a fucking dull player.
Will look back on the tournament fondly tomorrow, right now it's just a massive opportunity that we didn't grasp, and it stings. Need Philips out of our first XI asap.

By Xpike Go To PostMan all these news coming out, people really got a screw or too loose
Not just an English thing but a lot of people are incredibly good at aiming their anger for their supreme lack of happiness / self sufficiency / structural inequality at anything but the actual cause, especially when they can just punch downwards and blame minorities.
By Laboured Go To PostNot that either of us know the answer to this question, but do you think he did that for funsies, or because they've been training on penalties and they identified Saka as a good PK taker in training?this is a good example of southgate being an awful manager. the training sessions must have looked great for saka (and sancho), but things don't play out like that in a final lmao.
By Fergie Go To PostAt least Southgate has created a pretty comfortable environment for the players. All very nice bunch of lads. His man management is top notch at least.people always say this but.... how? giving players like sancho and rashford so few minutes probably didn't fill them with too much confidence. same with bellingham, good man management would be taking a long term view and fitting in minutes for the lad's growth. we have a squad full of good lads, somehow southgate gets praised for them not being cunts like the french.

It’s already happening. Sterling carried the team on his back and it still wasn’t enough. It will never be enough.
By Wahabipapagooz Go To PostI will support your rival purely because of that name. That's fine, I'm used it. Most of my friends and family in Ecuador support Emelec. Makes it extra sweeter when we win more trophies than them and the majority of the country celebrates.

Southgate making no attempt to change the flow of the match when it had turned against us is what will stick with me, not the penalties.
Can't think of a single other manager who would have let that go on for so long without changing anything, we were relying on luck.

Was getting well into it during the knockouts but really took the idiots coming back out to remind me why I hate England fans.

Could I please point you to all the times England have let their experienced lads take penalties instead.
Saka is technically very gifted and cool under pressure. He has shown that more than once this tourny. Sancho has taken good pens at club level (as has Rashford under pressure).
Pep recently fucked it in a CL final with a better team in normal time. Thoughts?
Everything seems a disaster when you lose. I'll take criticism of Southgate's decisions on shape / system in the second half. I also have some feelings about his resistance to ever taking off Kane or Sterling. But I find the pens thing weird.
Mount was terrible. Wonder how long it will take for them to realize he is not a winger, especially with lots of actual wingers on the bench.
By Wahabipapagooz Go To PostMount was terrible. Wonder how long it will take for them to realize he is not a winger.
He's played well there under TT no? (Inside forward tho)
Mount is from Portsmouth so he's automatically born shite at football and attracted to his sister. Thems the rules.
By inky Go To PostHe plays wide, but not in the same role.
I guess, but I thought his role was meant to be more or less the same in a 3-4-3 here. But, ya know, no Kante (and even Jorginho) in MF.
