Ancelotti had hardly been a success at Everton. Madrid look a bit desperate here. Going back for a manager who was a success for them years ago. Not a great idea, especially when that manager has struggled at the top level ever since.
Everton could really benefit from getting paid to shift Ancelottis wages and hiring someone much cheaper. Howe the obvious choice
Considering Conte was on the shortlist as well and Zidane's comments yeah everything pointed to an Ancelotti no questions asked kind of manager.

By Frustrated_me Go To PostLooks like it's happening. Welcome back Don Carlo.
this is no good, he's going to play the 30+ year olds to the ground. we need a tactician with focus on team building.

It's decline is what it is.
By n8 dogg Go To PostOr Potter. Would be a good step up for himGiven how dire Everton's finances are, even the small saving of not paying out to Brighton would probably be worth it to them.
Also for Potter it just wouldn't make sense. If Brighton's performances started to match their stats, he'd be looking at top 4 teams, and even Brighton would be stronger than Everton. Everton have a squad wrecked by years of mismanagement, ruined finances, and the likes of Rodriguez and Allan probably only moved there for Ancelotti.
Madrid want a vibes manager first and foremost. Someone who'll get on well with the players and not challenge the orthodoxy. That worked when Ancelotti and Zidane had Ronaldo, Benzema, Ramos etc in their prime. But they've now a load of players past their peak and the guys coming in to replace them aren't good enough. They don't have the money to sign Mbappe or Haaland this season. You can see why Perez is desperate for the Super League to go ahead.
What they need is a tactician who'll get the best from what he's got. But that means challenging the players to adapt to his ideas. That isn't the Madrid thing to do.

Raul setting up.
Sounds like the interest from Spurs in Jonas Wind is very real, but West Ham are also in. Would be kind of funny if West Ham, looking for an actual forward, yet again ends up with someone who would rather fuck around outside the box.

Copenhagen wants 15m euros (and a bidding war). But I imagine if there is only one club in the end, around 12 with some sell on clauses would do. I guess it also depends on how he does at the euros (and if he will even play)

Joe Cole shot a lad in the locker room, and JT was there too, and somehow it still doesn't compete with Real Madrid. #neverforget only Modric and Carvalho showing up for Essiens birthday

Martinez to Everton after he crashes out of the Euros first round with Belgium "golden generation".
Dat nostalgia factor.
I would imagine it's probably better for Everton for Carlo to leave and to get a clean break where someone else is footing the bill, but having someone of his status as their manager kind of elevated their status a bit and showed real intent. Potter or Howe would both be sensible choices and yeah, probably cost 1/3 to 1/2 his wages.
Boring but my predictor has France over Germany in the final.
