That sweet outside of the foot.
Haven't scored like that for, well, ever actually.
Group stages mean fuck all this tournament. And while I think the Scotland game was worrying, the second half of this game very much struck me as a case of "foot off the gas, there is no scenario here that is bad for us so conserve energy"

I mean we've conceded about 1 shot on target per half so far.
We've given minutes to most players.
We should've scored some more but that doesn't really mean much in international tournaments.
Bring on Germano.
There are teams gonna go through in third with 3 points. Absolute pointless exercise. Real tournament starts with knockouts.
Was saying in the whatsapp the other day - just can’t muster the enthusiasm for these euros the same way I can for a WC. You get some great group like Italy-South Korea-Ghana-Mexico with all those cultures and fans and noises. Just pales in comparison here, like this group, with two British and two Eastern European. Dull.

Agreed. With Maguire today we looked insanely stable at the back, and yes that is against some weak opposition but......that can't be helped. Only real point of concern for me is Kane, I absolutely believe he is a victim of pretty negative tactics but there's no denying his performances haven't been at his level. No attempts in the second half is not something that falls at Kane's feet, but obviously Southgate kept him on to try and get him a goal....he only does that if he feels he needs it. Confidence must be low and that is absolutely a concern.
Second issue is.....what the fuck is England's best team? It's a good problem to have ofc, but very good players are going to be left out. When we lose (and we will) that is going to ask huge questions of Southgate.

My feeling with this squad is its a horses for course thing (shut up) and will depend on the opponent and tactical set up especially in attack.
I can imagine us playing a 3-4-3 against Germany in which having Mount and Foden next to Kane is much better, or a 4-3-3 against, say, Portugal in which I would definitely be starting Rashford and Sancho.

Might not be a one-off season for him y'know. (Yes I know it doesn't speak highly of the other players)

LOL @ BOLDED
Well....it's Southgate, I will fall through the floor is Sterling gets left out for the rest of this tournament now with him getting both out goals. His tactical inflexibility will be his downfall I suspect but again I do believe the tournament really starts now and there isn't too much to read into the past 3 games.

Varane is shit, he was good when he was 21 and it's been all downhill since then. I genuinely don't think he's better than Lindelof.

It's very easy to imagine an Arsenal manager Mourinho playing Saka twice then blaming him for all the defeats and banishing him for eternity

Feels weird that people are surprised that Saka is this good, but I guess people are still in that weird, deeply antiquated mindset that you're only good if you can do it on the international stage.
I wanted us to poach Saka from Arsenal last summer. Literally zero realistic prospect of that happening but who cares. He can play just about anywhere and be great.
Think he'll stick around at Arsenal for a few more years and if they continue to struggle he'll be off. Probably to City.
