Germany didn’t score seven because they were particularly sparkling offensively though. Brazil just fell apart psychologically without a fit Neymar and made some of the most rudimentary mistakes any team could make.
I’m not disputing England aren’t good enough going forward to win it. I’m just not that surprised or disappointed that in international football defence > offence most of the time. Especially after this fucking nightmare of a season.

The first goal is Hazard vs Arsenal and that’s prob my favourite Chelsea PL goal of the last few seasons. Koscielny and Coquelin had to quit the league
Edit: Schurrle vs Burnley is a fun one too

Almost makes me think less of him wasting his time with this shit.
Seems the reason for the divorce between Gattuso and Fiorentina was specifically because Gattuso wanted Sérgio Oliveira, Fiorentina were okay with paying the 20M€ Porto was asking but Jorge Mendes demanded an 8M€ comission for the deal to happen.
Almost a third of the money in the deal, I hate that fucking guy so much.

Think England need a couple of changes to be a more positive proactive side:
- Biggest change is getting Maguire fit and in for Mings. A better defender and a far far better progressive passer.
- secondly, Henderson in for Phillips would be a good change, despite Phillips doing fine so far. Has the defensive capabilities and is also a bit more likely to push forward or play forward
- Finally, Sancho needs to be given a chance. Bring him in for Foden or Sterling next game and use his unpredictability and directness on the wing. All four of the fullbacks we’ve played so far haven’t offered anything in an attacking sense, and with Kane dropping deep and Grealish/Foden/Rashford all wanting to come inside, we could do with someone stretching play.
There’s a few other changes you could make - Bellingham instead of Mount or Phillips maybe, DCL in for an unfit Kane - but those three are changes which would make us look better going forward without necessarily sacrificing play style or defensive solidity.

Don't think Kane is unfit at all, he's just being asked to play in a completely different way to how he plays at Spurs....one which largely nullifies his best strengths. And it certainly does not help we haven't been able to create chances for him either....
Really not sure changing a CB is going to make a big difference to England's attacking prowess.
Henderson or Bellingham in the middle would be good, but both are still likely to play fairly deep. The big problem for me was the fullbacks. You've got wide players who all want to cut inside and the 2 DMs, but no overlap or attacking threat from the FBs. This is clearly a tactical choice because they have no problem getting forwards for their clubs. There was a moment last night where people laughed at Grealish for passing to a player training on the sidelines, but to me it really looked like he was expecting to play the 1-2 with Shaw. Except after the initial pass, Shaw had just stood where he was, barely going beyond the halfway line. Letting the FBs actually get forwards could cover up England's weakness in central midfield.
Also Southgate really needs to dump Foden

Is he? He’s coming deep to either collect the ball or distract markers so England can set Sterling past the last man
I don’t even know what “role” Kane plays for Tottenham, he seems like a target man with better feet. So much of his play seems to be around holding the ball up to get Son in, but that could be closely related to Son’s form.
If someone made a video of all Kane touches passes and shots so far. I'm not sure if there'd be anything

With Spurs he's very much involved in the play, the midfield with England is set up in a way where he gets way less of the ball overall...not just in the final 3rd. He averaged 27 passes per game for Spurs last season, he didn't even have 26 touches yesterday.
He hasn't played well, obviously. But scapegoat is completely fair in terms of the reaction to yesterday, the midfield was static, the fullbacks were static, Sterling was surrendering possession all the time etc etc. Performance yesterday was completely on SG in my opinion despite some poor individual performances.

Spurs plays for Kane - they play to his strenghts - also having someone as direct as Son helps to create space.
I'd forgotten we ever signed Schweinsteiger. What an utter waste of money that was. He was shit at United.
Don't understand the point in instructing Shaw to stay deep when his attacking game is what got him so many plaudits this season.
Was weird watching Reece James stay so far back as well. He barely ever came forward from what I saw. I guess southgate was very pleased with 1 point though.

Love how aggressive Hungary are. Wont win shit either way, but fun to watch at least. The stadium really helps
according to insiders we're getting Camavinga, Maddison, Onana, Aouar, Lokonga, Isak, and a youthful RB
plus Ben White and Neves of course

France pretty much unchanged even though they are playing a very different opposition. Deschamps seems to really like this starting XI since the friendlies.
