By Doicare Go To PostI'm glad nobody said Southgate's team selection was shit again and then several posters on this forum jumped on them otherwise that would be pretty embarrassing.
me am soccer expert and am agree with you.
By FortuneFaded Go To PostMy sister messaged me asking if I'm watching the England game later on. I mean, I've never missed an England game at a major international tournament since before she was born but sure, I'll skip this one.She just facetimed me asking why is there no extra time/penalties.
That was terrible. And the subs were just as bad as the performance. You’d think we were playing on the shoulder bringing Foden and Kane off and putting Grealish and Rashford on, we had very little control of the ball in midfield and surrendered even more after those subs the game was crying out for Sancho in the tight spaces and Bellingham in midfield.
Shite. Utter shite.

I guess the biggest concern now will be if England loses the Czech Republic game, Scotland or Croatia could pip them to 2nd.. and then England's GD (would be 0 or less with a loss) would maybe knock them out of being one of the top 3rd place finishers. Interesting final game ahead.
Seemed like once Foden went off there was no one even trying to make runs in behind. His energy not being on display was immediately evident.

get her to facetime me instead, someone who would appreciate it. or at least forward her to dean
Think sancho looked mostly shite when played for England just as much as everyone else.
Placing too much emphasis on individual players than just how drab and shit the whole set up is.

That’s pretty much international football though. That’s why we go with two DMs. That’s why we look better against attacking sides. That’s why Scotland did well tonight.
It’s easier to coach a well organised defence at this level than it is highly structured and effective attacks. Since Greece 2004, pretty much every tournament winner has based their game on organisation in defence rather than anything great attacking wise. France have the individual quality to do some good shit, but they’re still ultimately an organised and fairly defensive side
Last truly impressive attacking performance I saw in international football was Spain in the 2012 final.

By bacoNL Go To PostSo there's a chance?I don’t how big Wooden’s tits are nowadays.
Southgate needs to drop one of Rice or Philips for Bellingham. Having two defensive minded.
midfielders is overkill, especially when England have by far the most talented squad in their group.

By Perfect Blue Go To PostScenes when Croatia beats Scotland and the Schicks beat England.
We have four points so we would almost certainly qualify even if we finish third.
Shaw and James were extremely disappointing. I think Reece James performance might be the least ambitious one I can remember considering the gulf in ability between the teams. No desire to ever do anything more than pass it safe. I don't know if that's his style or what, I don't watch Chelsea. Get enough sleepy football from Sunderland.
There was no need at all for Phillips and Rice tonight but that much was obvious even before kick off. Not having that Mount had a good game - put one or two decent balls over the top for Sterling and a twenty-yarder that any keeper would be embarrassed to be beaten by. And also four or five pathetic corners. Good player, doesn't look good in this system though. But not many do.
Sterling and Foden were hit and miss. Seems to be easy to shit on Sterling atm but he was the only one who actually tried to take responsibility for bringing the ball into the Scotland box because fuck me nobody else seemed too interested. Foden spent far too much time tracking back for my liking as well... another mark against this shit system.
Kane was dogshit and needs to be dropped. Total passenger.
Southgate is... if this is how he wants to utlize this group of players, I think it would be best to move on from him quite quickly after this tournament. I could understand the setup vs Croatia but to stick with it against a fucking poor team is just... hmm.
By Cleff Go To PostSouthgate needs to drop one of Rice or Philips for Bellingham. Having two defensive minded.Maybe it should have been Grealish on the left, Kane up top with Sancho on the right. Midfield three of Mount and Bellingham with Rice behind them...

Here let me solve England's first XI team selection:
Against easy teams:
---------------------Kane---------------------
Rashford------Grealish-------Sancho
---------------Rice----Mount---------------
Shaw----Maguire---Stones----James
-------------------Pickford-------------------
Against hard teams:
---------------------Kane---------------------
Grealish---------------------------Sancho
----------Henderson----Mount----------
----------------------Rice---------------------
Shaw----Maguire---Stones----James
-------------------Pickford-------------------
You're welcome England.

perfect for dean
The very worrying part for England is that no combination of the 7-8 attacking players seem to work. It's way too late to scramble and find your best front 3/4 at this point of the tournament.
The subs didn't really improve anything as people pointed out. There's no chemistry, no good link up play.

Again, this isn’t really the case for any side in international football. Italy have been the only team so far that have really looked good consistently - maybe Belgium too, but that’s an ageing side with lots of experience playing together.
I think England will genuinely look better against the Spains and Germanys of this world. Won’t monopolise possession and will play to the vast vast majority of our squad’s strengths.
By Scum Go To PostMaybe it should have been Grealish on the left, Kane up top with Sancho on the right. Midfield three of Mount and Bellingham with Rice behind them…This is what I said on Sunday that should have started today...
Anyway, extremely poor performance tonight, Scotland didn't even really need to defend all that well.

Far too many times, they look like a team that have only just met. Expectations need to be at a low for them to perform.

All the recent impressions international sides - France 2018, Italy/Portugal 2016, Spain 2008-12 - have all prioritised defensive organisation and solidity over attacking purpose and fluidity. That’s ultimately what wins these tournaments where teams get cagey.
I don’t think England go further than the QFs, but I just don’t think tonight’s set up is the game that proves that. The selection and subs was more damning ultimately than the basic result of a point vs Scotland. That’s not surprising to me or anything that gives me much concern because we’re bound to be more in our comfort zone against more progressive sides. What does give me concern is Kane’s lack of fitness and Southgate’s mistrust of Sancho.

I'm not talking about looking sensational and playing teams out of the park.
Just about link up plays between the front three or four. France haven't looked formidable in attack but at least Mbappé/Benzema/Griezmann worked ok together.
Look at Portugal too, pretty terrible first game against a weak opponent yet Ronaldo/Jota/Bruno/Bernardo actually created some decent chances, just they were wasteful.
You'll definitely look better against stronger possession based teams but I think England attack looks way rusty right now.
you need defense organization but also need to actually present a danger to the opposition, France demolished Argentina with 4 goals, Germany with the 7, Portugal always dangerous just by Ronaldo being there
today England would've struggled to score against North Macedonia
