I would love a firm ruling on Duncan. US Virgin Islands, denied all sorts of rights, but still a US Citizen by birth.
Fuck it, if you don't have rights, you're international.
Duncan = International GOAT.

By reilo Go To PostIf Tim Duncan counts I'd argue he could be 1.I wouldn't..But it is worth talking about.. Timmy is a great champ and a great 2 way player, but Dream, Dirk and so far Giannis took over series. There were many times in the playoffs where Timmy wasn't even the best international player on his team. He played his role perfectly and his career speaks for itself, but would you rather have prime Dream leading your team or TD with no idea how the rest of your roster looks?
Shoot, both Timmy's MVPs are kind of suspect too.. I kind of feel the Lakers got jobbed twice. I can see Shaq losing the first one.. But Kobe was the MVP of 2002.

My god, have you slipped so far and forgotten... fuck the Lakers.
I don't know how TD is international all of a sudden.
And I like Dirk but Giannis just did some Shaq w/ a work ethic shit.

TD does have an amazing stat that he has NEVER once committed a foul.

Dirks teams were the #1 seed numerous times and he choked in the playoffs time after time. One win and we’re putting him over Duncan now?

Not even once in the NBA. Though a few times obviously against Duke in college, I felt like he got a favorable whistle every now and then.
By aka Espi Go To PostDirks teams were the #1 seed numerous times and he choked in the playoffs time after time. One win and we’re putting him over Duncan now?-"Numerous": they were the #1 seed literally one time, they got that seed with Avery Johnson overworking a team with fucking Josh Howard as the #2 option, and the #8 seed was on an insane shooting streak with Dirk's former coach who knew how to exploit him by defending him with smaller guys... after that Dirk learned how to post up smaller guys and that's a big reason they won it all in 2011.
-Duncan also lost as a #1 seed LOL why does everyone forget this. Duncan had a way better team than Dirk that year and still got punked by Zach Randolph
By DY_nasty Go To Postwhen the fuck was this lolin 2006-2007 he was shooting 50-40-90 as a PF that couldn't dribble. That man created a fadeaway that was just pissing people off.
I know there were other players capable of scoring mad buckets, like Kobe and Wade at time, but his package was pretty fucking tough..

Edges dream out too. Prime duncan defense? shiiiiit.
He's had more than his fair share of dominant playoff series performances
27 and 17 vs Dirk in 01 playoffs.
28 and 12 vs Shaq in 03 playoffs. Led the series in points and rebounds.
2005 finals. led the series in points and rebounds.
but anyways, there's no way Duncan is an international player cmon
Yeah I mean just because the US government disenfranchises people in the territories doesn't make them foreigners
Would people say JJ Barea isn't American?
Would people say JJ Barea isn't American?
I never saw Hakeem, but Giannis is the best non-American born player I have seen. Hakeem is I’m guessing the only player who can compete with him there.
Giannis is without doubt the best player who didn’t play pre-NBA ball in America. Only Dirk and in the future Luka and Jokic are really in that discussion.

not too long ago people were in here trying to juelz a finals mvp run out of stephs performance 😂
Not even just the 50 points and magically improved free throws, his rim protection was crazy too. There was one in particular where he just baited Booker to drive into the paint before swatting his shot to half court
The Adetokunbos had four more sons, all born in Greece, including Giannis on Dec. 6, 1994. (Antetokounmpo became Giannis’ surname after it was spelled that way on his Greek passport instead of his birth name of Adetokunbo.)So his last name is the Greek phonetic spelling of a Nigerian surname? TIL
Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon, who is arguably the greatest international basketball player of all time and one of the greatest NBA players, also has a Nigerian connection with Antetokounmpo. Olajuwon told The Undefeated that he and Antetokounmpo are Yoruba.
“I know from his last name that we are from the same tribe, the Yoruba tribe. His last name, which in Yoruba is spelled Adetokunbo, means ‘the crown has returned from overseas,’ ” Olajuwon said.
it's not phonetic spelling. they had to convert the roman alphabet "Adetokunbo" into the greek alphabet when they came to greece (Αντετοκούνμπο) and then they put it back letter for letter into the roman alphabet for his passport not knowing what it was beforehand and got it wrong.

The Twitter fighting about Giannis background is pretty entertaining. The Greeks now claim him but didn't prior to him being an NBA player and hate when it's brought up that he was stateless, Nigerians fight about him cause he's Yoruba and Igbo and both try to say that 1 side is responsible for his greatness.
Said it 2 years ago, I like the Suns core of Booker, Ayton, Bridges, Johnson.
For their first time in the play offs, first year with a new system, they played incredibly well. Had a huge run. And 2 games away from a chip.
Montys a good coach and as long as the culture holds, this should be a contending core for a long time.
They need to get more out of Bridges and their other wings on offense. They need a better backup big (I think Frank should have got a lot more minutes all series, hell, I would have played him with Ayton, and stuck him in the corner with Lopez).
Saric had a very odd season where he was up and down all season, and he put on a ton of weight. Felt like covid / injuries really stalled him ever getting back into game shape. But they desperately need a back up big that can also play with the starting unit to play against teams that play big.
Suns could never punish the bucks in games 3 - 6 for staying big. CP3 being nullified as a ball handler was bad. Said it during the finals but it looked like that shoulder injury was flaring up and causing him to lose his handle a lot. (Not taking anything from the defense, but he lost the ball a lot in situations with little pressure too). But with him being nullified and a loose handle, he wasn't able to get it out to the wings ever. Never could cause defenses to adjust to him.
They need to figure out a more diverse offense too in situations where CP3 or Booker are struggling to create. Release valves. How to get Ayton consistent touches in the post. How to get the wings more involved as more than just spot up shooters.
Hopefully next years finals they'll be better prepared, meet the bucks again. But win it this time. Would be a great story for both the NBA and both franchises (1 each).
