£300m+ on coutinho, dembele and griezmann. Paying Messi that amount every year.
🤔
given the current socio-economic climate, there is a need for structural reforms to guarantee the financial sustainability and feasibility of world football
🤔
By inky Go To PostIt's Messi's fault
Barca refuse to plan for a future without him. No, here, just have a €500m contract instead, squad planning is much too hard.
By jts Go To PostWasn’t that the whole ethos of the Super League? This does the exact opposite as it creates resistance to the rich clubs just forming a cartel and getting richer as it was planned? It is, actually, a great thing.Yeah it can work both ways I guess.
My concern is what happens when there is a legit reason to want to breakaway, this limits clubs freedom. At the end of the day FIFA/EUFA is just another SL anyways, and they're using a recent crises to establish a lock-in.
By pulga Go To Postsomeone remind me, is Messi supposed to leave on a free this summer?
Yeah, although they're offering him another Contract That They Can Totally Afford.
By Frustrated_me Go To PostYeah it can work both ways I guess. It's difficult to imagine a scenario where a full breakaway make sense and is the right thing to do. In the context of something like UEFA, it may be a shitty and corrupt system, but it has a wide array of reasonably inclusive representation of clubs and other leagues. If there was going to be some kind of next evolution or breakaway necessary, it should/would need a lot more widespread support to make any sense or to be fair, in which case it probably wouldn't matter if the premier league intended to ban the breakaway teams or not. In a situation like this, it's more likely that what ever consolidation was involved with the breakaway would either work alongside the premier league or pull enough of the teams together to break off and form a new model for that as well, which is probably a protection that's for the best. Also, since more of the money is up with the big clubs anyways, they still have a fairly good bargaining chip in terms of viewership and value that the league can't ignore.

ironically barca couldve just sold Messi last summer for like 200m but they probably wouldve used that to buy 2 more CAMs
By LabouredPatriot Go To PostYeah, although they're offering him another Contract That They Can Totally Afford.lol theyre so absolutely fucked. shouldve sold him eons ago
Why didn't they just sell Messi?? There was so much drama after our game that they could have just chalked it up to a little bit of a rebuild and nobody would have thought much about the money. Did they really think they'd be able to sustain this? He's in the worse part of his career, they had so little to lose, it's ridiculous.
And if they're only pushing so hard because they've been throwing away money, what's RM's excuse? Clearly they have some money if they're willing to do charity work for Alaba. Is it just not being able to buy mbappe and haaland lol? Juve doesn't surprise me, they must be the same with their joke of a midfield, but I would have suspected that both Milan teams were doing relatively well since they've been on the rise regardless.

Inter's Chinese owners are in a bad way.
AC Milan's owners are rich-ish but are also vulture fund penny-pinchers.
By Hitch Go To PostIs it Getafe who have/had that keeper who always plays brilliantly against Barca? No, that's Remiro from Sociedad.
By LabouredPatriot Go To Postall this shit about the fans but at the end of the day the players/managers are the ones who hold most of the power so if they want to change they need to speak up
Alright that's pretty good from Gündogan, respect. I hope that comes up. There's still time for that to change.
Fill me in on the issues of the new CL format? The legacy spots seem dumb as hell but what's the issue with the rest.

More teams meaning more games. Think there's going to be a big two league thing rather than multiple small groups.
By Perfect Blue Go To PostFill me in on the issues of the new CL format? The legacy spots seem dumb as hell but what's the issue with the rest.More games, only two groups and play-offs for the the ones who don’t achieve qualification through the group stage which means less chances of upsets and the big clubs will most likely always reach the final 16.
Small groups means a couple of bad results and you are most likely out.
Imagine being a player in England with literally a million games and then the UCL swings around and say you need to play some more. If I'm an international player trying to enjoy my career, I'm going to the Bundesliga. Actually in the EU, growing American and Chinese markets, and better weather too.
AFAIK, there are already wheels in motion to tweak the UCL new format, which came to fruition in cooperation with the clubs.
Now wouldn’t it be funny if clubs/directors just gave their nod of approval for the new format just to throw UEFA off the ESL scent, and in fact they don’t actually like the new format.

What a cluster fuck
Oh did they give up on the Swiss model?
The intricacies of it fell by the wayside amidst the ESL clusterfuck

Funniest thing about the new CL format is that these provisions were all forced through to appease the big ESL clubs who then tried to fuck off anyway.
By Perfect Blue Go To PostI think my ideal CL format is just a straight up knockout tournament. No group stage bullshit.I like the group stages so I regret to inform you that your opinion is incorrect.
New CL expansion/rules/format whatever seems foolish. The idea of Super League was to essentially 'eliminate' the boring ties. Expand and add more teams to CL and......
By LabouredPatriot Go To PostFunniest thing about the new CL format is that these provisions were all forced through to appease the big ESL clubs who then tried to fuck off anyway.Did they vote it through before leaving the ECA?
The only thing I don't like about the current format is that teams that clearly belong in the UCL like Ajax have to work so hard to get in and I dont think I like away goals after extra time.
By Hitch Go To PostOh did they give up on the Swiss model?

By LFMartins86 Go To PostWait, it's not two groups but a single league. It's the Swiss model, it's just that each of the 10 matches each team plays are unique to them but still qualify like in a group system (because the fixtures are decided still from Pots 1 through 4). Also, I was wrong about the numbers, I was still thinking about the ESL groups in my head. It's the top 8 teams in total qualify to R16 directly (seeds), then the other 16 play it out in a two legged format first to decide the rest.
Their idea is pretty much to guarantee you can still see "top teams" play each other from week one, but have even less risk of not making the knockout round. Would've helped us this season, for example, instead of going out to fucking Istanbul. It's a lot more games to play in total.
Both Milan teams being shit for so long contributed to the CL becoming a bit boring in my mind. Kinda missed seeing em around, yknow?
By Hitch Go To PostDid they vote it through before leaving the ECA?
It was all finalised before they left, then the vote for it all was the day after they left and it got voted through anyway.
By Perfect Blue Go To Postlmaooooo Hazard is gonna be fit for our match next week?

We basically have to win the league. Second place in our league gets a qualifying spot with a pretty tough opponent in the last round. Luckily we’ve been doing pretty good in Europe lately so our seeding is alright now. But for PSV it’s still very hard to reach the tournament.
I think the current CL format is great, I don’t mind having a group system. They should just go back to 2 (maybe 3?) clubs per country tops so more clubs from smaller leagues can get in. When those clubs get to make more money that will ultimately trickle down to the rest of their league improving the sport as a whole.
By Linius Go To Post. They should just go back to 2 (maybe 3?) clubs per country tops so more clubs from smaller leagues can get in..god no thats the whole problem innit, do you WANT Super League attempt #2?!

The super league wanted 6 clubs from England. That’s the complete opposite of what I’m arguing. Get me in touch with your dealer mate

The biggest problem with the Champions League is City keep getting the easiest draws & something clearly needs to be done about this.

Probably why they were reluctant to join the ESL.

They've only gone and done it again
