By Linius Go To PostIt’s crazy how strong that new ICE makes the merc. This was inevitable. Glad Masi just lets them fight it out on the track. They should just get a new ICE for every race.
If it wasn't for the Spint and LH had to start p20 in the actual race wonder how different it could have been
Bless those two another great race, Lewis mega all weekend and step closer to 8th. Felt that rbr had to win these last 3 races, with ME still to come. Ball now back in Merc park and theirs to loose, or RBR to find pace.
Valteri and Sergio are just that
Ferrari since upgrade upperhand to McL, taking Lando out did help though

By Lunatic Go To PostWhat did Ver do to Brasil? So random for him to get so much hate even though he is a cunt.nothing watch rain race 2016 and than he was the main man (even though Lewis won), now Lewis had mega weekend and gets the applause he deserves

Even tho Hamilton basically became brazilian today, I didn't see too much hate on Verstappen.
By Vini.lad Go To PostDid he really? He was getting booed constantly. They cut the audio out a lot when the crowds were doing it at the podium and after race interviews.

Fucking hell even the onboards from F1 TV don't show the cockpit view from Verstappen?
By FootbalIFan Go To PostAaaaaaaand f1 is predictable and boring againIf you thought that was boring I don't know what to tell you. Max has been excellent all year albeit an aggressive dangerous cunt. The safety cars definitely aided (particularly Hamilton) in making this race end earlier than it should have.
Lasted a good few months
Nah not that the race is boring, it was incredible, it's just tiring to have the same end result is all.
Kinda like Bayern and bundeslolga.
Kinda like Bayern and bundeslolga.
Someone said the booing for Max might come from him dating Kelly. Since her dad is best buddies with Bolsonaro. Not sure if that’s too far fetched. But I can’t help but think that it has nothing to do with the driver Max since he was always cheered upon in previous years.

Amazing to say that, yet, everytime Lewis is challenged he miraculously crashes with that person a hell of a lot. Probably just coincidence tho.
By MF Coom Go To PostMercedes looking a lot like Ferrari in 2019 if you know what I mean.Actually thought that. They were so strong in race trim it seemed weird.
Oh well, hard to say in this sport if there’s something fishy about their car. We’ll have to live with the fact that Mercedes found a way to really capitalize on that straight line speed. Can only hope RB will find a trick of their own to counter them for at least one of those last 3 GP’s. But after last weekend I’m definitely a bit down on max his chances for the title.
F1 is all about bending the regulations, often past the breaking point. I have little doubt the merc is not strictly in the limits of the regulations but it is what it is, sure the new ICE made it seem more extreme than it is.
Doubt RBR can figure it out Mercs trick with just 3 races left but we will see. I imagine they still have something up their sleeve still to use before the end.
It is clear that Merc somehow reduces the drag and at the same time RBR still guessing how they achieve it. Was great clip earlier on in the weekend with Ant analysing Max vs Lewis on main straight in Q and RBR looses hardly anything up until the last part were the Mercedes just gains massively all of a sudden and guess that's were RBR is looking at.
Was wondering why there was so much talk about Max cockpit view in Brit press, but just saw Sky footage and now I get it, they talked about it. Not sure why though, because it was clear from top view that Max went in way to hot, missed apex by a mile and was always going to run wide. Still do not understand why no 5 secs penalty, maybe they felt Lewis was also to fast/ran wide?, but I cannot wait to next race and the Fernando shenanigans using this ruling as a precedent, because Max ran Lewis definitely wide.
The "He dangerous" bit is rather subjective, because most dangerous move this year was for example from lewis in Silverstone. Both these two will not give-in or up and would be seriously surprised if this was the last one of the season, unless fastest guy wins start 3 times in a row.

There are videos of hamilton pushing and pulling the wheel during the race, resurrected DAS could explain a lot, but that would be illegal.

Max seemed behind going in to the breaking zone, so I’m not sure how FIA don’t consider that to be gaining a lasting advantage by leaving track limits.
There’s a pattern in the last few years of the driver with the inside running the driver outside out of track, and it’s hard not to see Max does it with an aggressiveness that’s bound to cause crashes if the outside driver doesn’t give up the track. Ironically, it’s what caused the crash at Silverstone imo, but at least Lewis was rightfully penalised there. Seems they just allow it if there’s no contact.

Zhou to Alpha Romeo official. Been solid enough in F2 to get a shot I suppose. Sure his nationality did him no harm.
Feel for Gio who was okay but never had a moment where he really over performed

Gio was in the same line, solid never top, so had his change and time to move on.
And clownshow
There was some guy who said something about “winning it on the track”. Oh well, it’s been an entertaining season for sure.
He was 3 seconds behind max. Max relaxed his pace since he wasn’t able to catch Lewis nor was Bottas ever going to pass him. After it became clear there would be no investigation (ie no penalty).

Today I was in the middle of a debate between an Italian chef and a Thai Michelin star chef that didn't agree on anything except that Ayrton Senna was the best. Conversation was doomed before it began💀

There is nothing new, they just disagree with stewards decision, will not change.
So why the appeal, pressure on future Stewards, media talking about it instead of something else
take your pick
Hopefully pressure leading to an eventual ruling stopping this constant inside line tactic of running people off the track, I’d imagine.

The onboard on Ver in that corner is now available - so that is new.
By Vivalapizza Go To PostThe onboard on Ver in that corner is now available - so that is new.it shows nothing new
Like I said in an earlier post, its a Sky/Brit press talking point. Top view already showed all, Max massively missing the corner and running wide. Stewards for what ever reason felt not to penalize, onboards or telemetry aren't going to chance that.
At least RBR let Alex run at Siverstone :p
By JesalR Go To PostHopefully pressure leading to an eventual ruling stopping this constant inside line tactic of running people off the track, I’d imagine. It is what they teach young kids in karting, when learning how to defend your position, so that isn't going to change rapidly. It also has been this way since I started watching motorsport im the 80's, so I doubt we will ever see it disappear.
As counter, the removal of it will also lead to driveby's on the outside on the racing line, if you are not allowed to defend inside anymore (as you always have to give space) and that is also something you do not want.
In the end it depends on the type of corner, how far you need to be ahead on the outside to make it work. And there will always be situations were you have two sides to the story, when one claims and the others does not give. Look for example how people felt at that Lando penalty in Spielberg(with Perez, or the Charles stuff later on), two sides that argue over "far enough ahead or not" and justified or not.
block "pass" will always be a thing in racing imho

Than again for a team that will probably find more time with the extra money than a slightly better driver, understandable.Yeah, Gio never showed he was worth more. Surprised he got this season TBH. I mean, Latifi is going to finish ahead of him. So is Kimi and Kimi didn't show up for half a season.
Gio was in the same line, solid never top, so had his change and time to move on.
I feel like Ocon is in that position too. Hasn't really shown enough that you'd imagine building a team around him.
On the flip side, Gasly has done the opposite. Feel like he's shown so much this season. Makes me hope McLarren or Ferrari try to grab him when Sainz / Ricciardos' contracts are up.
By markao Go To Postit shows nothing newIt's definitely always going to be a thing, and has definitely been a thing as long as I've been watching (minus the gap where I fell off for a few years), but it _feels_ more prevalent and more accepted now than I remember. I just don't want to see a world where you can only overtake on straights.

There's definitely a thin line between defending your line and running an opponent entirely out of track though. Sunday was clearly a comical example of it, but you saw it at other points in the race too.
I dunno, that doesn't feel like racing talent to me, just big elbows
30km overspeed and overtaking every car on a straight doesn’t really ooze race talent either. If that’s the topic here. This was racing and this is the kind of racing the sport needs to be entertaining. If we stop allowing battles like this we might as well just give the trophy to someone and enjoy the parade of cars for 90 minutes.
If we’re going to let drivers defend like that, then the overtakes we’re getting are using DRS on a straight. It didn’t feel like a battle to me, it felt like a driver went 25ft off track and pushed the other even further.
Break late, fine, but you still have to have a hint of a chance to make the corner. Otherwise you’re just dive bombing up the inside and making the racing line dangerous for the other drive.

Last one hardly done and next GP weekend is already up on us. First of the races in the desert and first time F1 visits this track.
Lay-out looks extremely front limited, so I think it should suit Merc and a win for Lewis and RBR doing some damage limitation, unless we get something like France (bit of luck (Valteri stop) and bold strategy).
Schedule: Formula 1 Ooredoo Qatar Grand Prix 2021
track:
tires: selections

FP1 new track, but would say that Merc need slightly more front end in the fast corners end of lap. Lot of off track adventures (Valteri's fastest lap will be track limits later on in the weekend) and the ones at the end of the lap T 14/15 aren't going to be kind to the cars.
Hard to call single lap pace as I feel both top teams on the reds were holding something back (car looked lazy (heavy) on both Lewis /Max onboard laps) ,might be temp/set-up, will see tomorrow. First quick run on mediums Merc looked slightly faster though.
Long runs, Valteri was fastest, but on different tire (meds), nothing between Lewis and Max on reds, so track position king.
Gasly again quick on short run, but his race pace on hards wasn't on same tempo as other midfield runners (but most on reds/meds)
