By FortuneFaded Go To PostSo basically, it is just an opportunity for the Mercs and Red Bulls to gain more pointsthink that both teams would rather have a normal qualie and avoid the risk that something happens, that would cost you starting position for the main race.
All sounds completely pointless, other than having something to watch at work on a Friday afternoon. :d'oh:
Cannot wait for Perez to destroy Lewis his car in the 1st corner and that will than be the last time we tried it and we wait for the next silly idea
Race weekend, round 3 Portimao. Last year the ultimate Mercedes hunting ground, so great time to see if RBR has closed the gap on this type of track. Good thing this year that is hard to call who will win, feels great for a chance.
Midfield cannot see anything other than a battle between McLaren/Fer/AT, like the previous two rounds, hopefully close to top on single lap pace in Q.
DRS zone slightly shorter, good last year drivebys and one added on the shorter 1st straight.

Wholesome interview with Ricky Bobby. I feel like he’s more honest with himself these days. Reckon Lando will always have the upper hand at McLaren though.
Only noticeable thing from this session is that as feared Pirelli should have gone softer on the tires, even the reds need multiple laps to get in the right temp range (low grip). Max had issue on car or tire on the reds (massive vibrations), looked fastest through the session, for what it is worth in FP1 ;)

By KP Go To PostReally gave Vettel a 2 year deal.
Sad to see him recently. I think Leclerc in 2019 broke. Well that and all the Ferrari fuck ups. I’m sure he feels he should be the one on or challenging for 7 titles.
Single lap Merc looks to be slightly faster in S2, longer run Max looked better. Merc 1st tried the softer compound, but based on drivers comments no the long-run tire to be on this weekend. Perez needs to find some single lap pace, long-run looked bit better.
Midfield close in single lap pace, gaps opens up in the long runs. Surprising pace by Alpine, maybe higher downforce package suits car bit better (or just engine settings)

By Eternity Go To PostI thought session 2 of practice was replaced by qualifying for the sprint race? They are only doing 3 sprint races this season
Strange weekend so far, so much depends on getting some working temp in the tires that it is hard to make some call, other than that Alpine (fastest midfield car?) seems to manage it (hardest tire wear in previous races, so that might explain that a little). Max fastest lap was with three slower sectors, Merc seamed to struggle to get enough heat in tire to push full in S1 and S3 times are all over the place with huge differences every single lap for all drivers.
Last year Lewis was one lap quicker in the whole weekend than Valteri and that was on a 2nd push lap in Q3, curious to what we will see this time. Double warm-up laps, fast-slow-fast like Lewis last year or can anyone get max performance in the 1st push lap out of the tire, no clue?

By Anya Taylor-Sad Go To PostHamburger did not do double warm up last year though.2nd push lap you mean ?
He did 2 flying laps vs bottas who did 3.
bring it on boys & an Alonso at p4/6 would be nice
By markao Go To PostSeb also needed this one, why did DannyRic not improve on reds, or did he?Traffic buggered him
George, so close still mega lap
fernando :oopsy:
All about tire temp, RBR wants to push on 1st lap, Merc looks better in either double warm-up or consecitive push laps (fast-slow- fast)

By markao Go To PostLewis pole, cannot see Valteri or RBR bother him today.
Merc no more reds, weird to see them take that gamble. Interviews show they wanted it, so bad choice by them, or maybe changed conditions?
Max error in 1st run & traffic in s2 cost him, lucky that Lewis isn't on pole and Sergio does what he needs to do.
Sainz beating Charles must feel good and Ocon brings good Alpine form to p6!
But getting that perfect lap with tires in perfect condition throughout the lap seemed impossible for the drivers today, should be better in race.

By FortuneFaded Go To Post.Lewis crumbling under pressure, did not expect that and his Q2 lap would have been easy pole.
Strange to see top drivers have so much trouble getting a constant good working temp in their tires, normally they figure out a way that works through out the weekend.

Cool to see Gilmour starting. I imagine Kovacic would have started too if he hadn't got another knock. Shame too, would have been good to give Mount a rest.

Strange quali especially Q3.
Out all day tomorrow so will miss the race. Anyone know anywhere good for full race replay later in the eve?

Clean start with Valteri leading would probably be best for the race. Wonder if teams are thinking reds in the 2nd stint, but if anyone pulls the plug early, they have to react to hards (or be confident you can get thee last few laps (max bahrain).
Last year were drivebys on the straight, hopefully that 100 meter DRS less is going to make the fights a bit more interesting.
Send help to Lando
