It's obviously a lot more effort and probably something that isn't easily automated but it would certainly be more accurate.
By Eternity Go To PostWhether Messi stays or not, I will be happy either way.As much as I would love to see Messi play for us, I'd rather we put that money towards someone who will still be playing in 5 years.
Scenario 1). He stays and accepts a lower wage package. Helping out some youngsters in the progress of finding their role in the team.
Scenario 2). He leaves and joins an English club or Italian one for one last shot at the CL. Manchester United should go for him. Barcelona will undoubtly struggle but the youngsters coming through will come good eventually.

Stats bomb do cool stuff like keeper position and things like that too.

Marketing possibilities would be endless and he would still provide a good 2-3 years of amazing football.
Call Ole and get it done.

By domino Go To PostWe can’t afford him otherwise I’d be for it.No transfer fee.
Only have to pay his wages.
Get rid of fringe players on higher wages.
Sign Messi.
Win?

Not to mention the sign on bonus for a free agent, which is always rather big.
By Pennywise Go To PostOnly his wages, which gonna be more than enough.Lets say he wants 150m per season, would that be something Manchester United could pay him?

300m for two year contract seems feasible considering who they would be signing.
Maybe could get him to drop down to 125m USD depending on bonuses and image rights agreements.
P.S. US currency.
By Xpike Go To Postidk why messi would go to united if his goal is to get 1 last CLFair point, United may struggle to compete in the CL but Messi may be the key. You never know, worse teams have won it.
if you want to win the CL, or reach the final, get Navas as your GK, 4 CL campaigns as starter, 3 won and 1 runner up
Messi could transition quite easily into a midfield role. His range of passing is incredible. 5 years at the top level may be too much of stretch but could see him doing it for another 3 years at least. At which point he'll be 36/37. This upcoming WC will most likely be his last chance.
Ronaldo will because he's a fitness freak. Messi, I don't see it.
Also, in terms of transitioning... there's like 1 manager in the world who could make Messi transition. We all thought Ronaldo was ready to embrace life as a #9, and either he can't or doesn't want to. I think at this point of their careers for them it's less about what makes sense and more that they want to go out on their own terms., and they see that last hurrah slipping by.

Just seen the Barca highlights, doesn't look like they could have played much better in the first half.
Think it's a bit daft that you can concede a penalty for accidentally treading on someone when the ball is already in the keeper's arms.

And yeah, tbh the penalty I'm not too fussed on, but to give him a yellow as well is jokes.
And then when kurzawa fouls and gives a penalty, it's not a second yellow. Even though unlike lenglet - kurzawa was actually making a challenge and failed.
Consistency in refereeing is so hard to find in football

You don’t have any friends
No thanks,
Besides, it's really hard to turn Messi into a dumb nickname - that alone would cause a collapse of the dressing room.
Lenny?
Messiah?
See? The team would be torn apart.

"VAR is here to help. In these four-and-a-half-years, everything we have won, it's for absolutely us. No-one has given us anything. Zero."

Any manager would say that though. They're hardly going to say "Actually, it was VAR that won it for us!".

VAR should have let Barcelona re-take their penalty. Player not only encroached before Messi hits the ball, he is the player that ends up clearing the ball after it remained in play.
Lenglet has been horrible for at least two months now, but giving him a yellow for an accidental foul seemed overkill. Icardi had no hope of receiving the ball as Ter Stegen had it in his hands.

To be fair to Pep, he is a really good manager.
Barcelona, he got the team playing iconic football and changed the way football has been played since.
His tenure at Bayern also produced good football with good domestic results but of course not the desired outcome in european competitions.
City splashed the cash and hired him and he for sure could have turned down their offer especially considering the dubious ownership and oil-money at play. I believe it is fair to judge him on that front, but then again most people ignore the human/animal cost of anything we consume or station we hold. Humans in general are pretty sucky on the whole morals thingy.

Pep is one of the top 5 managers in the world. But he’s also had a massive leg up. both of these can co-exist.
By n8 dogg Go To PostPep is one of the top 5 managers in the world. But he’s also had a massive leg up. both of these can co-exist.Sure, but the status he holds in the game and his desirability only exist due to his work at Barcelona.
People are quick to forget how horrible that Barcelona were before he took over. Overpaid lazy players, players who lacked discipline, skipped training etc. He came in and kicked out some iconic names and gave the team a new style and drive to succeed.
4-3-3 was of course the default set up but signing Dani Alves was a masterstroke and one of the most underrated transfers of all time. Alves and Messi formed a terrific understanding with one another and Alves should always be mentioned when people bring up that Barcelona side.
With Laportas full backing Guardiola delved into the transfer market often and kept improving the squad in many areas. Keita, Pique and the promotion of Sergio Busquets and Pedro from the youth set up was inspired as well.
He kept the team hungry by constantly going to the bench, signing players to keep established ones on their toes, gave youth a chance and gave (with Tito's help) Messi a new role in which he became an even more menacing threat. He experimented with formations and line-ups a lot.
4-3-3
3-4-3
4-6-0
He created a style that has been the foundation for so many teams that came after but also build upon from what he inherited from Cruyff.
He is not just in the top 5. His is number one.
Would be grateful if Manchester could do a win tonight. Sucks that it's the early game tho. Hopefully some Amad.

he also signed:
Hleb
Caceres
Henrique
Ibra
Chygrynskyi
Keirrison
Afellay
Fabregas
arguably David Villa was a poor signing as well given the fee
How much can of the blame can be assigned to Guardiola instead of Begiristain is an open question, most likely Pep wasn't too involved in a lot of the deals. Still, it's a very poor transfer record overall.
