EU?

I grew up in the Star Wars EU. I spent 20+ years immersed in it, knowing the how and why to everything that made up Star Wars. It was mine. SW knowledge was my (admittedly lame) super power. And now it's gone. I don't know anything more than anybody else who has seen the movies and it feels like… I don't know. Feels like I imagine a Jedi Master would feel if his connection to the Force just disappeared one day.

It makes me regret the absurd amount of time I spent living in a universe that wasn't my own. I used it as an escape and I shouldn't have. Up until today, I still did. And I shouldn't. I'm 27 years old and I know more about the history of Coruscant than the history of Earth. Or I did, anyway. It's time.

I will see the new movies, passively. When I have time. Maybe I will like them. Maybe my kids will. I always imagined I would be heartbroken if my kids didn't like Star Wars, but right now, in this moment… It just doesn't seem important in the least.

This used to be my universe.

Now it's Disney's "legend".

I can't help but think of all the useful things I could have been reading, could have been passionate about as a child, teen, and adult.

Is it time wasted? Is there a lesson to learn in all of this?

It doesn't matter. I think I'm done here. Those of you hanging on for the next chapter, enjoy the ride. I'm sure it will be great.

HOLY CRAP! This is HUGE news! We have some breaking news coming out of DEADLINE that Looper director Rian Johnson is WRITING AND DIRECTING Star Wars Episodes VIII and IX! Holy guacamole Batman!

Contrary to reports that he will be directing the next two Star Wars film, Johnson will direct only Episode VIII, but he is writing a treatment for Episode IX.

I love Rian Johnson's work and Looper was fantastic.

Fanboys gonna bitch about the weird lightsaber for some reason and ultimately be disappointed when the movie turns out to be exactly what we expect from JJ abrams: a fun two hours of splosions, some stuff about the force, decent acting, good action set pieces, and a compelling story that makes no sense.

That's exactly what Star Wars is about and the type of movie going experience it popularized. It won't stop the man children though.

George Lucas says Disney 'didn't want to do' his version of 'Star Wars: Episode VII'

More than two years after he sold his empire (and his rebels!) to Disney, George Lucas is enjoying his retirement from making Star Wars movies—not to mention his retirement from people getting angry at him for making Star Wars movies.

So when CinemaBlend reporter Nick Romano asked Lucas about his contribution to the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII—The Force Awakens, the filmmaker genially responded that Disney basically ignored Lucas’ ideas for the new trilogy. Lucas explains that he had sold his ideas for Episode VII to Disney, but “they came up to the decision that they didn’t really want to do those. So they made up their own.”

It’s not really clear if Lucas had a specific story in place for Episode VII, or just vaguely-defined notions like “Han and Leia’s children have lightsabers” or “this time it’s personal” or “Death Stars???” or “Z-wing.” Episode VII Kremlinologists will recall that Lucas had some interaction with Michael Arndt, the screenwriter who was writing Episode VII until he wasn’t writing Episode VII. Of course, Star Wars scholars will also recall that Lucas spent a couple decades variously claiming that he was definitely making a sequel trilogy and definitely not making a sequel trilogy.

Recently, a source confirmed with Jason Ward over at Making Star Wars that Rae (Rey) is indeed Han and Leia’s daughter and that they too have a son, Kylo Ren, who’s said to be the main villain in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
