How can a player gain an unfair advantage because his shirt sleeve poked 0.5 cm beyond the last defender? They have to do something about the way the make offside decisions. So many good goals have been ruled out for armpit/sleeve trigonometry and not actual sporting reasons.
Long answer: If you treat it more objectively (kind of like goal line tech), you eliminate the decision making process and fuck everyone equally instead of a ref deciding to fuck teams selectively.
The offside rule is outdated in modern football, of course. And VAR still somehow fucks it up.
