By Daz Go To PostGoing to try The Expanse again.
But man is it slow going.
Forgot Tom Jane was in this.
Season 1 is slow. Season 2 is slow. Season three is bonkers
By inky Go To PostIt doesn't even take that long to get going. Establishes a mystery right away, then straight to a space battle and the crew coming together.
The first two seasons are almost all space politics
Season 1, ok sure, at least the plot keeps moving
Season 2, hmm alright, this is more interesting
Season 3, so this is the best science fiction story ever made

I used to concede that season 1 was average or mid, but after seeing other stuff that gets gassed up and rewatching some early eps - no
The best part about Expanse is -- unlike many shows -- that the actions established in earlier seasons actually have consequences and repercussions later. It might not make sense in a "where is this going?" initially, but all of it is interconnected really well all the way through.
Best example of this is season 4 with Holden's radiation-based immunity from season 1
I thought that thread was DROPPED dropped

I like space politics so I liked season one. The only season I disliked was this last one. The ending almost ruined the rest of the series for me I disliked it so much
I loved last season because it was probably the only good instance of a western adaptation running to the finish line and leaving things open for return to that universe
BSG? Now that was an ending that fucked an entire series

It's so obvious when showrunners worked on a show a season or two too long and they just ran out of steam trying to wrap everything up.
There is no good adaptation of running to the finish line and leaving story arcs open. I didn't start watching expanse to get the David Lynch experience lol
You read the books though so you probably got a lot more closure from what was shown???

By Laboured Go To Postbest news of the year
James Corden is set to end his tenure as host of The Late Late Show on CBS.The years felt like decades
Corden, who has hosted the show since 2015, has signed a one-year contract extension that will take him through the 2022-23 season. He’ll exit the show next year after eight years as host and will discuss the decision in his monologue on Thursday’s show.
Who can forget all his wonderful contributions to art and society like something else besides carpool karaoke
I wish someone would finally do a Tales From The Crypt reboot.
Watching the season finale of season 3 and it has Kirk Douglas, Lance Henriksen and Dan Aykroyd.
Sure, you could do a cheaper horror anthology but the Crypt Keeper is half the fun of it.

More or less did with Creepshow.

Erm, oh shit, that's a nice surprise.
By DiPro Go To PostRussian Doll Season 2 is out today.
i really really liked season 1 but my god i don't remember anything. it's been too long.
finished it on saturday.
it was alright, but season 1 was better.
We own this city is great. I didn't really notice it until my first rewatch of the Wire, but We Own this City does it as well, which is Simon doesn't have music in scenes unless it's playing in the background of the scene itself. The Sopranos did it as well, but to a lesser extent than the Wire and We Own. It makes it feel more authentic to me.
non-diegetic gorgeousness
One of the opening montages to Sopranos (and the very montages at the end of each Wire season) eschews that to good effect though

Re: Expanse
It's got really good production values.
I wish Dark Matter had gotten a similar budget. What a fhn show.

Yeah they used it sparingly, where as something like Jack Reacher has audio cues for everything and trying to tell you how to feel. I prefer the Sopranos/Wire approach to it, think most shows and movies would be better without the music playing in scenes.
I'm on ep 7 of Severance and I feel like I should like this a lot more than I do
Hopefully these last 2 eps are bangers

Strange New Worlds first episode very very watchable
Knock on wood, all these post-Fuller Kurtzman shows have started out fine and then fallen off a cliff after two or three episodes

Cold open to Barry 3x2 was great and isn't a spoiler
I can buy this actually happening considering the failed hit attempts I've seen reported.
This a spoilery scene but boy was it great.
Scariest Barry has ever been 😳. Almost as good as serious Noho Hank.

Finished S2 of For All Mankind last night, great finale. The season itself still took a little long to get going, as in S1, and it drags in the middle, but that finale was exciting and moving. The last shot got me hyped ngl lol.
THEY'RE GOING TO MARS?!
THEY'RE GOING TO MARS?!
many years ago, i saw a documentary called the staircase--which is available on netflix right now.
fascinating stuff.
hbo turned it into a mini series. the first three episodes are up.
it's not top tier drama, but it's good enough so far.
putting this in tags just in case: watching kathleen die was horrible, visceral stuff
