Wheel of Time ep 7 and 8.
I really want to like this show as I'm a huge fan of the books. And in some departments the writers have excelled. The costumes are excellent and the incidental world building is great. The mythology around the Warders, the Borderlands martial society, the Seanchan's slavery of those who can channel. It all looks great.
But they've absolutely butchered the plot to fit it into 8 episodes. They've given us a whistle stop of Book Ones greatest hits and didn't give detail to anything. What made the first few seasons of GOT great is that it gave things time to breathe. They slowed things down at certain moments, built the world and the characters through the small details. There's no opportunity to do that in Wheel of Time because we're zipping from plot point to plot point at 1000mph.
The most egregious example of this is the importance of the Dragon Reborn. They never fully established what the Dragon actually did and why they were so important. They couldn't because they had to get to the next plot hook. So in the end the great reveal falls flat. Also, they didn't actually explain what happened to Saidin and why every male channeller must be hunted by the Red Aes Sedai.
This season needed at least 10 episodes to flesh everything out.

I have yet to watch ep 8, but while I'm not completely disagreeing with you when I (try to) recall everything that book 1 entailed, I actually thought they handled the inevitably compressed version of the plot they chose to go with rather competently, especially during the middle part of the season, right before and in the episodes following Logain's ordeal.
Yes, many things felt rushed through and hastily thrown in the mix, like the Children of the Light, and some things that should've been explained have been (I imagine) regretfully left for a later time for the sake of including all the major book 1 plot points in such a short season. It's a shame, but given the titanic amount of stuff to cover I've made my peace with the fact that this can ever only be a very much abridged version of the books.
I thought they explained what's going on with the male side of the One Power well enough for WoT newcomers (like my brother). Saidin is tainted, male channelers go batshit insane, Red Ajah hunt them down before they do. I would've loved for the show to start as the books did, with a FotR-esque Dragonmount prologue, but I imagine it just wasn't compatible with the show's budget.
I'll report back after episode 8, but so far I'm quite happy with what we got, especially after the iffy start to the season.
For sure though, 10 episodes would've been perfect.

Book 1 was always going to be hard to translate into a TV show, because book 1 was super sluggish. Once you endured the slow world building, you were treated with a nicely paced ending and then the greatest fantasy book run of all time in books 2-5, but I can see why they would want to change the pacing of book 1 for TV

The final few hundred pages of Lord of Chaos, culminating with the Dumais Wells chapter, remains the highest point of the entire series.

I still say that book 2 is the greatest fantasy book ever in terms of pacing, world building and sense of adventure and really sets the tone for the entire series.
By blackace Go To PostI can see that.I agree with you on the Great Hunt. Everything after the trio left the Borderlands was brilliant. The way Jordan introduced the Seanchan, as hearsay and secondhand rumour, was masterful.

Can't be arsed with the weekly drip-feed of The Expanse so just waiting till it's all out and i can binge it like a fat TV cunt
Just watched the first three episodes of Expanse.
So good.
Actually had to check I was watching the correct show after the first minute of episode 1. Also about that Is there some time fuckery going on with the ring world scenes? Feels like those people have been there for longer than a few months or a year.

Started Wheel of Time. Feels very different from the other fantasy dramas of recent years. Nice not to all be about fucking and swearing.

Lots of good docs and films on there too you should peruse. HBO tended to have interesting biopics too.
Carnivale is a fantastic show which nobody fucking watched.
Knauf's roadplan for s 3-5 was fascinating. Would have been great to watch.

That's how I originally watched The Wire haha
The clips that play on Netflix when you highlight something made it look awful, like the Cunk/Shitpeas dynamic spread over an entire show.
Going in completely blind to Atlanta S3. Need no convincing, just did a rewatch of season 1 and 2, still so good.
By Shanks D Zoro Go To PostStarted Wheel of Time. Feels very different from the other fantasy dramas of recent years. Nice not to all be about fucking and swearing.Yeah, I enjoyed it. But it was uneven and some episodes were just laughably bad production wise. I though the writing was good until it hit Episode and go that was one of the worst TV episode I had to sit through in a long time.
Some of the shots are absolutely stunning.
Looking forward to season 2 though, you could tell COVID has hit the show production pretty hard.

Sequestered is decent trash
Had never heard of it before it popped up on Netflix, seems it was produced for a streaming service I've never heard of.
