the new xmen show looks worse than invincible and it has nothing to do with trying to emulate the 90s show look(which it doesnt)
Finished up Lupin part 3. We got any French people on here? Cuz they can’t be this dumb. His whole MO is doing exactly what Arsene Lupin does in the books, and it’s already well established that he does, and yet all these dumbass cops never listen to the one cop, who’s also a Lupin fan, when he tells them what’s going to happen.
Also his disguises are hilariously bad and everyone says “hey you look like Assane Diop” and he all he says is “I get that a lot. But I’m not him” and they just accept it
French people can’t be this dumb.

finished mr and mrs smith. the action sequences were clunky, and i find it hard to believe that these two would make for great spies, but i enjoyed it nonetheless. the leads have great chemistry. fun television.
also, i didn’t see any ads while watching this.

Wife wanted to watch The Walking Dead Daryl Dixon so we subscribed through Prime Video (since the first ep was free on it) and chose the ad-free option

But his character gets better from season 2
By diehard Go To PostI've still never seen a single episode of Star Trek but people's opinions i trust say its good.tng from season 3 onwards still one of the best
22 ep seasons really helped a bunch of shows
Thought the entire point of McNulty being who he is was to showcase the fragile and incompetent side of detectives whereas every other TV show idolizes them.

He was also pretty shitty at his job from all aspects of it which made his season 1 arc so hard to deal with.
the showrunner is an ex detective so he has insight even if it might be skewed because he can't see the whole picture.
At times, I’m 3 episodes in and that’s exactly what he is all the time.
Yea it’s refreshing that the detective isn’t Batman for once, but I still dread every scene he’s in so far.

tbf I was never impressed with West in that role so that may have an impact on my view of McNulty as a character
By reilo Go To PostThought Simon was a beat writer on the police beat?ah you are correct. I guess I got his role mixed up. Even at that, he still is in the network, making it harder to see it the bigger picture of stuff.
Kind of like Jake Adelstein of Tokyo Vice.
I'm sure it's biased a bit. Although Simon's been pretty vocal outside of the show where he thinks American policing is at and it's not flattering lol.
Adelstein is a completely different tier though -- that show and story drips with naivete of "good journos and cops will bring bad guys down". I wouldn't say The Wire is in the same vein personally.

The book is a completely different narrative but it glosses over how buddy buddy yaks and police are.
I watched S1 of Tokyo Vice and thought they made a point to show how the police close cases to keep crime rates low out of self preservation, but I can totally see it being even worse than that.
That's cool though that you met him.
Speaking of bumbling buffoons, Adelstein should've died several times over in S1 lol

About half the show is hollywood.
Japan is small you are bound to meet somebody who has done something

They worked together on a bunch of productions.

McNulty never annoyed me and I believe his incompetence(and the incompetent of the entire department) was obviously on purpose, just not as overt as Prez
It's been a while but i don't remember McNulty being incompetent, just that he had a fucked up life that affected his job.
I feel like he's good at his job when he's in the right frame of mind, but there's no way you could trust him to be.
Tendency to be either so detached that he's not focussing, or so into it that he has a meltdown and fucks everything up.
So thinking about it, calling him incompetent is probably fair.

McNutty was good police if he was driven to care and not make it all about himself or to screw someone else.
You can see him starting of as a capable detective but he's got a grudge and a judge.

Best show ever.
I just finished a rewatch a couple months ago. McNulty is depicted as a great homicide detective and the driving force behind most of the investigations, but is also shown to be lazy and cut corners which negatively effect their investigations as well. Gigantic asshole, obviously. I think he's a great character, as are pretty much all the characters on the show.
