feels like they're throwing a ridiculous amount of money at it to recapture that band of brothers magic, but it's not doing it for me based on what they've shown so far. and butler always comes across as an actor in a perfume commercial; can't take him seriously otherwise.
will give it a shot tonight.

They say he's watching the new season of Masters Of The Universe. That big reveal in ep. 3 brehs.
Edit: OMG Gwildor's here too!

By Zabojnik Go To PostTrailers did absolutely nothing for me, will wait for other men's opinions.Let's just say the first episode ain't no Currahee.
So I'm in the middle of it, but episode two is flaunting the myth of precision bombing as a unique American invention. Like these bombers are the good guys and weren't about the murder thousands of innocent Germans.
I am very eager to see how they'll tackle this subject matter.

First episode was cool, just feel like the CG looks weird. I watched the Memphis Belle and that's like 35 yrs old but still holds up fine.
By turkey bacon Go To PostSo I'm in the middle of it, but episode two is flaunting the myth of precision bombing as a unique American invention.Except they didn't? They only addressed the difference between British and American bombing and there was no myth perpetuated. Maybe you could say they were implying that the Norden was vastly better than it's British countepart because they mentioned it?
By turkey bacon Go To PostLike these bombers are the good guys and weren't about the murder thousands of innocent Germans."War is Hell". Aight, done.

We all love the Norden bombsight don't we folks?
By DY_nasty Go To Postthis is starting to sound like when people somehow misunderstood certain scenes in the pacifichave any examples that come to mind?
By DY_nasty Go To Postthis is starting to sound like when people somehow misunderstood certain scenes in the pacificI haven't yet seen it but biggest pet peeve of mine is people disliking something because they misheard/misunderstood a plot point 😂
Slaenters, don't be those people

"War is Hell". Aight, done.
Doesn't help they fly off to a nondescript U-boat base in Norway as a first mission where they actually manage to drop their bombs right after they mention that superior marvel of technology that is the Norden bombsight (and show it in POV aimed at that harbour, rather than the town adjacent to it).
So I am very eager to see what they'll do next. Because I don't want this to become a LeMay jerk off contest.
By diehard Go To Posthave any examples that come to mind?the mercy killing and some of the looting scenes come to mind
i didn't think it was confusing at all until i looked online and saw a whole mixed bag of responses to some stuff

The COs are very much portrayed as the boys will be boys loose cannons. I'm kinda waiting on the introspection. If I were a screenwriter I'd introduce that somewhere halfway through the series though, so there's still hope.
By blackace Go To PostWill it cover Operation Gomorrah too?If this is really just about the 100th bombardment group, it wouldn't (they weren't involved IIRC).
might be working a bit overtime to force your favorite vision of storytelling on this one imo. not telling anyone what to watch or whatever...
even band of brothers kicked the can on where the POWs went, where artillery lands, etc

I haven't seen it yet, but you mighty invested in having the characters act a certain way.
Honestly, everything I have read or seen about WW2 is them dudes were worried about anything but making it to the next day.
I really don't think this series is going to get nearly as far into the ethical issues and psychological trauma that The Pacific did.
Kinda wish i would have read to the book to compare, though.

So I know all that, in the moment stuff, but it's more about what the series is trying to tell the audience.
The second episode ends on an (possibly drunken) bicycle race inside the base's HQ. The shenanigans are cut short by an air raid alarm. In the distance the Norwich Blitz is happening.
This framing makes me very weary. I wouldn't be surprised if ultimately it's indeed just "war is hell".

So I'm like, come on. We're eight decades removed from this stuff. We can do better.
The Norden bombsight is introduced as some kind of power weapon that will win the war.
It didn't pan out that way and precision bombing did not work. Cue large scale destruction in the European and Pacific theatres. pls give me more than nazis bad pls

it took band of brothers how many eps to show what happens after POW's got cigarettes? fucking hell man lol. about to add this to the list of shows i don't even check for commentary on
Your moralism is relative. These dudes were drafted into a war against the Nazis and giving very little info to execute their newfound skills against.
This isn't Vietnam.
Also the post-war cleansheet and PR given to the Germans, Japanese, and Italians isn't talked about enough.

I just want to see something more than than B17 goes VRRRRRROOOOOM. Or even worse, more than POV shots of German factories and bases through a crosshair. If it can't deliver more than that in the year of our lord twenty twenty-four deary me.
I'm really confused by what you want. Chernobyl-level borderline snuff with the airmen looking sad af?
By reilo Go To PostI'm really confused by what you want. Chernobyl-level borderline snuff with the airmen looking sad af?I don't want it to end up as a 1960s era jolly good war movie. I'm afraid they are regressing towards that because the subject matter is quite distant and therefore safe. If it were to remain that way, it'd be a pity. There is something to be said about the indiscriminate fire bombings of urban populations in war time.
I don't need a "are we the bad guys" moment 7 episodes in. Just give me something besides look how this ragtag group of Americans saved Europe.

Come man. This is about the Bloody Hundredth. (Thanks to diehard for pointing that out)
They flew mad missions and were trying to pound Germany into submission. They flew until injury, death or capture basically.
From a narrative standpoint it would be weird for them to worry about anything but bombing their targets.
By joefu Go To Postthe latest true detective episode is ehh i dunno i how feel about this. The first one was also kinda bad, second one was way better.
I'll see it tonight but I hope it won't be an uneven season with half of them being meh.
The latest SVU episode might have been one of the most bizarre episodes of television I've ever watched. This could have easily been a south park episode.
A mob of teenagers raid a high end clothing store. During this smash n grab, a white married lesbian woman is raped by a black teenager(18 yrs old). Throughout the investigation, the rape victim struggles to recall the events of the attack, is strangely uncooperative but eventually(very reluctantly) identifies the suspect.
Trial begins. During the proceedings, the victim's lesbian white wife is noticeably frustrated. She later expresses that she's having a tough time because.....she's doesn't think the rapist who raped her wife is getting a fair trial because he's black.
Trial resumes, the victim is on the stand and the prosecutor asks that she identify her assailant for the courtroom....she becomes unresponsive, damn near catatonic. Recess.
She explains that although she(and the audience) knows that the rapist did indeed rape her...she is white, privileged and can afford therapy, she will recover from her raping....but what about the rapist?

During this same episode, the same mob of teenagers raid and ransack the police station while the police are helpless to do anything. Captain Benson talks her officer not to shoot(lmao) as they are only teenagers.
Just watching The Curse and omg the level of awkward cringe in this show already
Stone and Fielder are great

I think what annoys me most in the new True Detective season is the random cover song strings inserted constantly.
Finished Masters of the Universe: Revolutions and (spoilers) it was really great seeing Prince Adam and Teela finally get it together. We've all been waiting for it folks.
Evil-Lyn becoming Good-Lyn was a bit of a tear jerker ngl.
Some interesting implications for Skeletor next season.

Oh, also watched the first two eps. of Masters of the Air (clear inspiration taken from the above but why reinvent the wheel?) and I think my main issue is they don't really explain the backstory and lore of the Nazis so it's hard to know why they're the bad guys. Also it doesn't really establish their relative power levels compared to the Allies.
watched both episodes of masters of the air. it’s really, really dull. it feels like an amalgamation of every war film and series you’ve ever seen. and having butler and austin as your leads doesn’t help either. they’re just… there.
no wonder hbo passed on this.

calling austin butler ‘butler and austin’ proves your point entirely
