how does more resources not create more solutions and opportunity though?
like I get working with what you got and refining existing processes, refocusing, etc but I don't get how more money isn't gonna help. struggling projects looking good kinda leads one to believe that they'd be better if they weren't struggling.

No budget
Big budget
Anime is making more money than ever before, all the streaming money being put in these projects aren't being put into the actual production. Profit margins just keep increasing.
Hopefully it's different for the invincible studio but eh who knows, Netflix's castlevania studio is successful, I believe are paid well and aren't crunched but the output isn't any better to my eyes at least. But what do you do when some of the best young up and coming great 2d animators in the usa rather work for anime under their idols, even if for peanuts?
If it were 3d animation, maybe the budget/quality graph would make sense but I don't know anything about that.
With a season 2 and 3 already in production, I fear any budget increase is irrelevant to how the show looks in the future

By DY_nasty Go To Posthow does more resources not create more solutions and opportunity though?Well I can only speak somewhat confidently for anime.

By DY_nasty Go To Posthow does more resources not create more solutions and opportunity though?More money means bigger returns for the financers and voice talent. Production budget and pipeline doesn't necessarily change, unless that's the goal of the executives (or necessitated by union requirements).

The original conceit was that they should up the animation budget, not just some nebulous increase in incomings
What do you mean by that tho? Pay the animators more? Get better animators(that will work on other shit no matter the check)? Switch to 3d animation?
As it is, the drawing count is fine and it moves well enough.
Increase the animation budget kind of is a nebulous statement.
I think a lot of the concerns would be quelled by some less bland color compositing , more dynamic storyboarding, and a more cinematic art direction.

Sure, but this thread had a lot of "more money doesn't mean more money for production", when the explicit suggestion was more money towards production.
I don't know if that would actually help, I know nothing about animation production, but it felt like people were arguing the wrong point

Even this season, some episodes looked boring, static, and even off-model while others looked great. Every episode has a different team outside of the supervisors. Money towards production can be spent in a lot of different ways and in the end it comes down to decisions and talent more than raising the blanket spending on animation specifically
If you never say "hey I want this to look like this" it doesn't matter how much you pump into it

At times it looked great, most fight scenes were great! That makes sense because those are the money shots.

Higher budget is a simplistic way to say more time/talent could be invested to bring the boring and static scenes to life.
By /bacon Go To PostHigher budget is a simplistic way to say more time/talent could be invested to bring the boring and static scenes to life.Even in the figurative sense, just gotta wait and see. Depending how far along they are, the show's rising profile can only help lure in the big guns
A surplus of talent would mean even the c-teams handling the talking heads stuff might be more invested in what they're given

The whole "on call" system....
I can't even contemplate overtime. No wonder Becker was such an asshole.
God bless you Jjasper

Gotta say, I am really loving Kung-fu, who would have thought I would say this about a CW show
Having said that, dreading the huge budget cut its second season will receive because... you know... its a fucking CW show

realized that there's a lot of scenes with copyrighted music that these reaction videos cut out. started watching for realisies.
Holy fuck this finale was great. The brutality and reality of what could happen in that situation was realized and actually shown in animated form.

You not started it yet? Interested to know what you think. First ep. almost did too good a job of tricking me and I almost gave up on it.
By Hitch Go To PostTaskmaster best thing on TV tbhWe've been going back through the earlier seasons, I still think the quality in this season is a bit weaker in comparison, but it's hilarious all the same.
Food prep tasks are always great
Hopefully the studio bits get better when crowds are back in. They're still good but it feels a bit sterile without a studio audience. Hope the ratings are good enough to survive on C4 until then at least.
Have you seen any of James Acaster's stand-up btw? He has/had two sets on Netflix and they'r both great, haven't seen his most recent one though.

I think it's doing well enough based on All4, it seems to always be in their "Most Popular" list
I really need to see his latest stand up. He is the only reason why I found out about Taskmaster.
Randomly found a clip of him and I absolutely loved his humor and delivery.
Has to be one of my favourite comics right now.

By reilo Go To PostSeason 5 of Expanse, *chef's kiss*Expanse scratches that Star Trek TNG itch of watching competent people solve cool problems. Love how unstoppable Bobbie is and that scene in S5 where she rescues Naomi in space and you only hear her voice is one of my favorites of any show
Try and board a ship defended by Bobbi at your own peril
By LabouredPatriot Go To PostGreat read 👍
Loved INVINCIBLE finale.
Also, watched THEM on prime video. A black family moving to a white suburb in the 50s. With a twist of (more) horror. Incredible stuff, amazingly done. 10 episodes.

Invincible spoilers i guess? https://i.imgur.com/M6ZrThM.png
I must say I am enjoying Season 5 of the Expanse way more than Season 4 ... which was, uneventful? Which is anti-Expanse imo.
They also did the one thing that most TV shows with an ensemble cast fuck up on: they separated the main crew into their individual subplots but actually managed to do a great job with each of them.
