Yeah I just watched that. I mean I guess it was somewhat better than live-action Cowboy Bebop. I've never seen the anime / read the manga before tho.
I don't get the big deal about Succession. It's good, well-made television but it's nothing amazing. I swear the way people talk about it it's supposed to be The Sopranos / Wire / Breaking Bad good. I'm on the third season and I'll finish it because there aren't that many episodes left but if this thing went on for 6-7 seasons I would've dropped it by now.
Great acting, great writing, great direction. What else do u want
I don’t think it’ll be held up as Sopranos/Wire level in the future, but I prefer it to BB.

And yea it's probably better than BB in many ways.
BB has better cinematography/editing (S3 onwards) and Cranston is individually marginally better than anyone on Succ. That’s it for me tho.

Succession (and Wire/Sopranos) big advantage is that it knew from episode 1 what the show was about. BB took a while to find its footing but it has really high highs but it's really uneven.

I don't disagree about the writing, directing, acting, it's all very good. I'm just not that invested in the story.

Here y'all go again lol. I guess for dramas I prefer more thrills, but I loved The Thick of It, and this tonally doesn't seem that different
BB is a 2nd tier show. Doesn’t belong in the discussion with The Wire, Succession, Mad Men, Sopranos types
By domino Go To PostBB is a 2nd tier show. Doesn’t belong in the discussion with The Wire, Succession, Mad Men, Sopranos typesI'd buy that argument simply because Better Call Saul might be better than it.
But again, the highs of BB are really really fucking good. And yea Mad Men is better for my own preference, too.
BB aside (and I still think that's one of the best shows ever made along with Better Call Saul), I just can't see putting Succession next to The Wire and The Sopranos, like I feel like I'm watching a different show than yall
I think the majority opinion is that the last two seasons are its best when the stakes are upped. Everything else prior to that is a character breakdown of rich people being shitty -- one of my favorite subjects.
One a sidenote, I always wonder the effects of a show on people when they binge it versus watching it in real time with weekly breaks between episodes and months between seasons.
Succession is definitely one of those to me that isn'y bingable because it requires a bit of processing and breakdown of what occurred. Otherwise the episodes all kind of smash into each other.

Their scenes are great, that's when the show is at it's best for me
Don't really care how it stacks up in cinematography, acting and themes, I found Breaking Bad to be completely enthralling for all 5 seasons to the point that it's as good as anything I've seen.
Not that it would compete either way, but it's a real shame how Line of Duty ended up getting bogged down in the H bollocks and took it's focus away from the good stuff.
Got 5 episodes left of Andor, great stuff. Makes me wonder if Star Wars is actually a good setting because it can host such a good series, or if it's a pile of shite because Andor could easily exist and excel without it, and such a huge percentage of film and TV based in it is bad.

BB is fine for two seasons. Cranston carries it through some rough stuff. S3 onwards it’s great. I prefer BCS overall.

The shakey cam and just overall movement of the frame in Succession I found to be very distracting in the initial few episodes and I just couldn't stick with it. I plan on giving it another chance now that it's finished its run.
Succession and Breaking Bad are both great shows but I wouldn't have them close to the likes of The Wire, the Shield, Mad Men, or Deadwood.
By sohois Go To PostSuccession and Breaking Bad are both great shows but I wouldn't have them close to the likes of The Wire, the Shield, Mad Men, or Deadwood.I think so too.
But I havent watched the shield, its that good?
I assumed it was Justified good
The Shield is great. It came about an era (that still exists tbf) where we grandiosed the fuck out of cop shows and it came out and showed how corrupt and seedy it can be (based on a true LA corruption scandal).
Succession was pretty good but a bunch of aughts HBO is so hard to top. Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood, Carnivale, Big Love, Six Feet Under, Band of Brothers, Angels in America, Generation Kill.
FX had a run of dramas that was pretty unmatched. I actually really enjoyed Nip / Tuck.
The Shield is my personal favorite show. I think that pilot and finale are two of the best episodes of TV you could bookend for a series. And the rotation of guest stars (Forest Whitaker, Anthony Anderson, Glenn Close) that they would add were never a distraction; they only added to the shows quality.

By reilo Go To PostIt goes away because they told Adam McKay to kick rocks. Mark Mylod takes over and is much better. That's good to hear because, I mean, that camera was all over the place for like simple conversations in a hallway. It's been a few years now, but I remember looking around and asking people in the room, are you seeing this!?
I'm currently rewatching The Shield and it's still great.
Not only it has one of the greatest first episodes, it also has one of the best endings.
There's a fantastic article with the creators and actors talking about making the show and how it was almost a miracle that it got made.

You know Justified is one of my favourite shows and Raylan Givens one of my favourite characters. But man, watching City Primeval and the second episode is baaaaaad. Lets see if they can salvage it.
Still have the watch the latest episode.
To bad, because I liked it.
Also, The Shield is indeed a top tier show.

Season 4 of Snowfall was easily the best yet. Huge improvement over the prior 3 and addressed what I thought were the worst parts of the series.
By Laboured Go To Postpeople always said he looked like Mac Miller too
By s y Go To PostYour either not white or rich enough, or both. This applies to so many shows 😂
I've been watching Billions now and it could slide into tier 2 aswell, still on season 2 so we'll see if it keeps up.
By DiPro Go To PostSuccession is easily among the top of the second tier shows behind all time GOATs like Sopranos.I watched the first four episodes and wasn't impressed. If I wanted to watch a bunch of cunts, I would go to xhamster. Does it get better?
yeah i think they found their groove in the second half of the first season but they will never not be massive cunts.
If you watch Succession and ever think any of them are supposed to be good people, check your privilege.
The moral scale of the people on succession ranges from those who exploit or harm poor people for personal gain to those who do so for the sheer enjoyment.
