glad you understand this is delinquent behaviour. but there's still time to fix yourself. together we can get through this.
By Daz Go To PostThe internet is addicted to negativity.season 8 earned all the doubt ppl had for this show but i am glad its good
Season 8 wasn't even bad it was just below how amazing the show was for 6 seasons. Also people are just always want to see the king fall.
Also as soon as one person says something is bad everyone says it's bad, the internet is weird like that sometimes, mob mentality.
S8 was alright, ending was weak. Great series all around though.

Word, everybody wanna be Siskel and Ebert with personal rankings and reviewing everything instead of just watching shit for entertainment. Once I seen all the same complaints worded damn near the same I knew it was a nerd feeding frenzy where they all just repeat whatever the high review nerd said.

s5 and 7 were still mostly fine to me, s8 had me feeling bamboozled and ready to throw the whole series in the trash.

I don't even have HBO bruh, I'm not emotionally invested in a subscription. But for real once I seen everyone using the term "thematic" I knew they were all getting it from one source, not sure who but I'm sure they talk about shows & movies like this dude does about music.
All anyone has to do is type "Thematic, GOT and resetera" into a search and behold the truth.
I enjoyed s8, everything happened so fast. I know within my friends group I am the only one. I don’t think the material was any better or worse than the previous seasons, but I do agree it could have been executed better.
I was starting to get bored with the show around seasons 4 and 5, felt like nothing was really happening. Characters disappeared for a season and then would pop back up and I had completely forgotten and lost any interest in them.
I might give the show a rewatch, see how I feel about it with everything together and completed.

GoT was a chore to get through past S4. It literally was that GTA San Andreas "A shit here we go again" meme.
Telling people that they only dislike something because everyone else did is a pretty odd stance to me. Sometimes the criticism becomes a pile-on and a race to be the most acerbic about it, but that doesn't mean the audience would have liked it otherwise.
Especially when it's disliked on first viewing, second viewing, retrospect and everything in-between.

People do this for GOT. ‘Only critics and people on the internet hated it, the public loved it’
The public loves Hollyoaks and Keeping up with the Kardashians. Don’t trust the public.

Game of Thrones s1-s4 was legit fantastic television. For what it became I think people forget it was a show that was primarily about dialogue-heavy character scenes, it was just amazingly cast and very well written (helped of course hugely by the source material being there as a reference).
S5 they started doing their own thing more, introduced a lot of subplots that just weren't well thought out, the writing certainly started to suffer as they veered further away from the books.
S6 actually had some very good moments but it was another mixed season, it was the season where they nailed the spectacle the most probably, although in the process I think they thought that was why the show was popular because once again the writing was suffered. The Arya stuff is very boring, the whole reason why Arya was compelling in earlier seasons was how she interacted with other characters (Jon in s1, Tywin in s2 and then the Hound for two seasons). Now they pair her with a bunch of shallow nobodies, they don't even bother to try and write dialogue scenes. The action is probably at its best and the cinematography is 100% at the show's best, the Battle of the Bastards looks amazing. But if you consider the writing again...oof, I mean how the battle plays out is so fucking stupid Jon should be dead about 5 times over before the battle even starts. Sure that shot of him facing up to the onrushing cavalry looks amazing, but he should be dead moments after. And as for Sansa saving the day...why did she withhold the information that she'd be doing that? It just makes no fucking sense, but yep...it looks good and is pretty exciting as long as you turn your brain off.
S7 & s8 are every bit as bad as their reputation suggests. They are fucking shockingly bad, they might as well not be the same show. The action isn't even good, the general writing is abhorrent, the humour in the show devolves to just saying "cocks" every other line. They utterly destroy characters completely randomly, Tyrion is now the stupidest person in the whole show and Jaime....jesus, Jaime. His character arc in the first 3/4 seasons is absolutely stellar. In my opinion he's easily the best written character in those early parts, and then in the penultimate episode they throw it all away by having him say “To be honest, I never really cared much for them. Innocent or otherwise.” It's the worst line in the whole show but it perfectly demonstrates what went wrong, they just...stopped caring. The writers understood Jaime while they were still bothering to write dialogue scenes, but by this point they simply didn't care. They didn't forget the whole point of his character, they just didn't care.
Which is well documented, D&D were completely burnt out. They publicly spoke about wanting to write to a certain point in the story, that's the part they cared about. After that they just wanted to be done, but they wouldn't hand it over to people who still had the passion for the show either. Cunts.
I'm not going to spoiler tag, it's years old now and also very fucking shit.

Wow...
I am not familiar with the source material so I just enjoyed the spectacle.
But what you're saying reminds me of what happens when an anime gets ahead of the nanga it's based on.
Which is mad, because by season 7, got had become anime af. And I didn't mind.

The funniest thing about GOT's ending was how quickly all the merch and shit vanished from stores after that season dropped.

If you've seen the first few seasons then you basically are! There are very few changes in s1 especially, the vast majority of the dialogue is ripped straight from the books. It's around the time you start always hearing "my big cock" frequently that you know they probably aren't using the books any more.
I mean people watch shows for different reasons there's nothing wrong with enjoying the action etc primarily, I guess the thing that confuses me when people say they were watching for the spectacle is just that really wasn't what the show was for the first few seasons. So what were you watching it for then? If it was the characters and that's what you liked first I then don't get how the later seasons didn't piss you off when they just shit all over them.
Season 1 - 4 has great writing, characters and there was spectacle (just not the massive moment you see in later seasons)
After that they had more spectacle to distract from the bad writing I guess but there were still some great moments in those later seasons.
Season 8 just completely shit the bed, fucked the payoff from the white walker buildup (7 seasons for this!) and then screwed it up again with Cersey and Dany's end.
Talk about having to swallow 2 bitter pills in one season.

Yeah, was talking to my mate about the manga comparison.

Also think manga creators, more often than not, have input in the anime even if it surpasses the manga... That seemed to be painfully not the case with GoT
I mean shit, GRRM didn't care for S8 so much he seemed to make sure he wouldn't get cut out again with HoD
I love lots of stuff. I also like talking shit. I don't think that means everything is negative. Talking shit is just fun.
ngl I am surprised that HOTD is doing so well.
Everyone was talking about GoT. Even in the time between seasons I would always have coworkers talking about it, theorizing what's going to happen, what they want to happen, etc. While Season 8 was actually airing no one spoke about it. You could just feel how that season disappointed everyone.

Probably isn’t.
I liked the characters, but I personally liked the big moments throughout the show. So many jaw dropping moments that left me absolutely shocked. I was also a big fan of the world. Really felt lived in.
I really like GoT S1-3 for the most part. 4 is good too. And the best episode they ever did was the 6 finale. But most of 5-8 absolutely whiffed the landing because the writing was bad, the bastardisation of the characters was complete, and the spectacle was fun but hollow.
If you're watching (or re-watching) Game of Thrones, beware of enormous spoilers for House of the Dragon

Besides the weird soft porn 1-3 was comparable with the giants of shows (Sopranos, Wire, Shield, Deadwood and whatnot) 4 was pretty good then it crapped the bed but tbf 5 was where GRRM crapped the bed in the actual books, so there is that.
Bunch of weirdos who pretend the book series hasn't declined massively

We'll never have 6

Oh 1,2 and 3 are far superior. No doubt about that. I still quite like 4 and 5 though, despite them being bloated messes
Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power impressions are very positive.

Disagree with the quality there - haven’t seen Shield but other 3 are 10/10s for me and early GoT was a 7 or 8. Didn’t have the strength of acting all the way through casts, didn’t have the invention on a sheer craft scale when it came to editing or montages or whatever when comparing it to the likes of Sopranos or BB/BCS. It’s a lot of two-shot conversations in corridors. And in fact, when the filmmaking DID get exponentially better on a technical level - things like the Battle of the Bastards - the scale came at the expense of almost everything else. The last episode of S6 when Cersei destroys the Great Sept is the best filmmaking the show ever did, bar none. Immaculate editing, music and ramping up of tension.
Primal is awesome. Wasn't sure about them introducing advanced civilizations and the more serialized stuff in season 2 but Genndy is knocking it out of the park again
