By DY_nasty Go To Postif anything, selling a minimum wage bill right before midterms should be the easiest layup of the fuckin decade for the dems…
This may be the move. I think they may do voting and civil rights type stuff next
By DY_nasty Go To Postif anything, selling a minimum wage bill right before midterms should be the easiest layup of the fuckin decade for the dems…Easier than passing that extra stimulus money after spending weeks campaigning on it?
By cashman Go To PostEasier than passing that extra stimulus money after spending weeks campaigning on it?there's already been a years worth of effort and jockeying over just the stimulus and rona-associated stuff. we *might* get it done well.
i don't even have to try to hard to imagine the democrats want to pass a minimum wage hike that destroys what's left of small businesses angle that would appear overnight, chop the legs out from under both issues, and - if they do pass - will lead to some half measures that satisfy no one while also giving the republicans and disenfranchised dems even more shit to rally against. the minimum wage fight didn't start this year and won't see a nationwide resolution this year either. the fallout from the coronavirus stuff, much needed immediate stimulus, satisfying voters that demanded focus on those things specifically? that's a big deal
shit, simply putting the emphasis towards protecting the right to unionize is already more helpful than what we're doing now
dems can't even do easy shit like cutting checks. they need points on the board to get momentum going. one thing at a time
Yup.. People are head hunting and want a quick knockout but that takes time and you need to work the body first to set that up. The second reconciliation bill is key to passing any minimum wage or M4A level of legislation in the future. I still believe after the 2022 midterms Democrats have a shot to actually pass and not just push legislation as hot as those.

On second thought somebody like AOC will run in 2028 so after that election we will finally see some real change.
I can’t wait until Obama’s second term and he finally takes the gloves off and starts pushing for real change.

i don't think aoc is crazy enough to run
and if things are as tilted in 2028 as they are now.... aoc will never happen anyways. probably got a better shot at being the next oprah if anything.
also, i don't think this is about 'risking another trump' either. its really that dems can't afford to fuck up this package more than they already have especially when they can't even lock arms on easy shit yet or even maintain the appearance of doing so.

By DY_nasty Go To Posti don't think aoc is crazy enough to runIt’s not about risking another Trump at all or them”fucking up the bill.” Dem Leadership straight up does not want to double the minimum wage. They are already fucking up the bill by tightening the phase out. They’re going to compromise the wage increase down to like 10-12 dollars by 2030 or some shit like that.

and I agree. And everyone should be ready to accept that level of a fight, both inside the party and out, is worth every bit of attention it deserves independent of the ongoing clusterfuck in progress. we include minimum wage and you make this much needed stimmy take longer, you probably get some ridiculous exceptions/restrictions/invasive nonsense attached, and it won't get revisited properly for years because "we tried" just like with tons of other stuff we rush...
if anything, the pressure of midterms is the only thing that could reasonably force democrats to acknowledge the positive momentum behind it and so it right. for a lot of these seats, a minimum wage increase will be the *only* thing saving the Dems anyways.
but idk hope for the best I guess

Stepped increases of wage floors are normal and I don’t see why we would scoff at 12$.
It isn't the $15 they were talking up. It also doesn't do shit to actually correct the issue of people being unable to match the cost of living, without having to work 2+ jobs.
It's really bizarre how ass backwards the logic is. It's should be obvious who should be getting support in a society rife with consumerism but nope fuck the main street.
When given the choice, the government should always seek to abstract the help they give citizens. If you do something that's too direct it sets the expectation that the government has a role in improving the material conditions of their lives rather than taking on personal responsiblity

But that's how America operates: on thresholds

The proposal would disqualify those earning $80,000 or more — and households exceeding $160,000 — from receiving payments of up to $1,400. Here's the latest.Earning $160k as a household (parents + children) isn't shit in the largest democratic voting block in the country (cities)
This cap only appeals to people living outside of cities to make them feel good

Tbe only reason I don’t like means testing is because it will have gaps since it’s based on old tax data. The actual cap levels aren’t the issue for me. It’s just not smart but Manchin. There was a report that his aid sends him the national debt / deficits each morning
These fucking guys lol

I’m pretty sure you agree with me that most people want this bill and republicans have sucked messaging this. 10 hours of wasted time in the senate tho lol
By Fenderputty Go To PostBecause trifectas usually end after 2 years loland then dems are gonna get 'dems didn't do shit with a trifecta'. which gonna hurt a hell of a lot more than whatever they're twisted up about now
