How do libs find this guy funny
By Laboured Go To PostDouble impeachment. What that means
By Punished* Go To PostFunny thing is I remember the Colbert Report being funny and edgy.
Tbf, satire centered around politics has gotten hard since real life has become such a parody
With his impressive resume of being impeached twice and having the longest shutdown ever, I’m still not sure if he’s the worst president of my lifetime.
I was 11 when Bush got elected and I still think he’s worse but I’m sure Trump would have been even worse if something like that happened under him

By Punished* Go To PostSo there's a vote in the senate now to remove him - simple majority or 2/3?They need 67 votes in the senate to convict and they won't have them, even though Republicans are getting an out here to take Trump off the ballot.
considering more people have been dying from corona daily than in the total of 9/11, id say trump is a worse president on that alone

Bush isn’t a bad President because of 9/11. He’s a bad President because of what has happened after 9/11.

67? yea nah

I figured the house would be more trumpy, but partisan nature of the house vote looks bad for the eventual senate vote

By n8 dogg Go To PostThey’ll get 49 Dems, probably Manchin, Murkowski, Collins, Romney. Don’t see who else they get.Toomey is retiring, so he might vote for it. Other than that, uh... They don't have the votes. Mitch leaking that story about him maybe supporting the process tells you everything about how this is gonna go.

McConnell has his work cut out for him and the GOP is going to be insane heading into 2023 of they don’t

Romney, Collins, murkowski. I think Mitch risks loosing Lisa to the Dems if he doesn’t pull through. That house vote was super trumpy and a failure to convict almost ensures he’s gonna be part of the GOP plans moving forward
By aka Espi Go To PostI was reading that they only need a simple majority since it’s the second impeachment.
Don’t think this is accurate
Not even an unreasonable statement imo. Most important aspect of the senate vote is surely preventing Trump from running for office again, and in the next 7 days he might do enough to steer votes towards that cause.
By aka Espi Go To PostI was reading that they only need a simple majority since it’s the second impeachment.Supposedly it's a simple majority to bar him from running again AFTER he gets convicted in the Senate. Two different procedures.
They might not be able to get a conviction but they can prevent him from ever running for office again

All they would need is 51 unless Manchin wants to fuck it up
At that point why not just convict him? He’s probably not gonna be able to run regardless so what use is he to the GOP? His base already hates them.
Should he be impeached (again) by the House, and convicted (this time) by the required two-thirds supermajority in the Senate, senators could also vote to disqualify him from serving in future federal office, which would take only a simple majority. (Article 1 of the Constitution says impeachment judgments can include “disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States.”)

Personally I’m not opposed to that. More damning evidence will come out. Schumer will have to split his time though. Appointments and stimulus needs to happen stat

There is something to be said for concentrating GOP mind-share on defending Trump rather than matters of actual substance.
By 4k30 sy Go To PostHow does fender hold all these Ls
Politically, his lack of conviction means the GOP will likely be full trumpism 2022 and 2024. I would obviously prefer a conviction, but I think a Trumpy GOP will be easier to run against moving forward. We’ll see what Mconnell does as the minority whip in a month

Personally, if the GOP isn’t willing to convict, I don’t think the Dems should vote to censure him. Let the GOP handle that mess moving forward
By Fenderputty Go To PostPersonally, if the GOP isn’t willing to convict, I don’t think the Dems should vote to censure him. Let the GOP handle that mess moving forwardThat would require some 5D 'let them fight' chess thinking from the Dems.
But it also very risky.
