i honestly wonder why anyone even took that initial "all those things that matter are just granulars imo" shit seriously. like its so hilariously wholly dismissive that i just laughed and decided to ignore everything afterwards.
there is probably no way to come off more arrogant and ignorant when discussing housing than reducing it all to its just supply and demand. and it'd be one thing if you even thought there was something new to learn, but instead as i read through the last page its just picking and choosing what could help your admittedly limited perspective.
hope you realize you're that guy at least. if not lol whatever

Would be down for the ep. in which Italy uses military satellites to make US voting machines switch votes for Biden.

Not like it matters anyway, nothing will change with housing for decades at least and there'll never be a told you so moment for anyone.
this is the shit im talking about lmao
who cares about a told you so moment? you jumped into a conversation you had zero intention of even trying to understand from the jump with that first statement - but everyone else is the jackass for not meeting you halfway? even after laying out several different entry points you could walk yourself down and eventually contribute more than just supply/demand. all these guys put aside stuff that legitimately pisses them off to try and educate you in spite of that.
being cordial in a bad faith argument is still running with a bad faith argument.
i don't know if that's something you realize or not, but i'm putting it out there so its clear. antagonizing people for the fuck of it is not cool

I've never had the impression Sohois is arguing in bad faith or that they're intentionally antagonizing anyone. They've always seemed completely sincere in their beliefs, which they state matter-of-factly to the point of seeming detached, regardless of whatever point they're making. They seem to genuinely think we can explain all of this with some supply, some demand, and a few other less important details sprinkled on top.
It's good faith in a shite faith.

By a told you so moment, I meant that the discussion is completely theoretical. None of us will ever know if you could just increase supply or get government house building to fix things because nothing will change. I didn't mean it as an antagonistic thing.

Snark or no I was pretty serious about how we have lax regulation and relaxed zoning in Houston and it's a bad fucking idea. Putting neighborhoods next to fertilizer plants is not the way. Don't even get me started on industry right next to housing as incredibly dangerous and ridiculous on a flood plain.
This is why "just supply it" breaks down. Where. Next to what. For whom. No shit we need more housing? That's not the real issue here.

By DY_nasty Go To Postthis is the disconnect. why do you think im calling this a disconnectI'm sorry but I genuinely don't know why you call it that.
I do live in housing like everyone else here. In fact, in too small housing, and I'm not able to move my family to a house because of the housing crisis. I don't feel disconnected from the issue irl. But I also try not to let personal feelings dominate in what is ultimately a quite abstract discussion about housing policy.
Perhaps my desire to buy up some land and build my own house influences me, but I'm pretty sure I still held these beliefs before I had that desire.
By sohois Go To PostI'm sorry but I genuinely don't know why you call it that.because not knowing what you're talking about, not trying to understand it, and then proceeding to label a conversation as theoretical is exactly the issue. you've got people laying out examples, reasonings, context, etc. this is not protracted theory. there is plenty to talk about here and you've once again proven you don't see or want to see the issue

and to make it more clear - "i too live in a house" is some of the most banal shit i've seen posted in this thread unironically. then to follow it up with a personal feelings are unnecessary? lol. yes go buy some land. and take a break.
By Cleff Go To PostThis is a fucking terrible idea and is only about trying to whitewash the atrocities and human rights abuses perpetrated by the British in Northern Ireland.Kinda par for the course with Brits, no?
Two of the men found guilty of the assassination of Malcolm X are expected to have their convictions thrown out on Thursday, the Manhattan district attorney and lawyers for the two men said, rewriting the official history of one of the most notorious murders of the civil rights era.https://www.nytimes.com/2021/11/17/nyregion/malcolm-x-killing-exonerated.html
The exoneration of the two men, Muhammad A. Aziz and Khalil Islam, represents a remarkable acknowledgment of grave errors made in a case of towering importance: the 1965 murder of one of America’s most influential Black leaders in the fight against racism.
A 22-month investigation conducted jointly by the Manhattan district attorney’s office and lawyers for the two men found that prosecutors and two of the nation’s premier law enforcement agencies — the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New York Police Department — had withheld key evidence that, had it been turned over, would likely have led to the men’s acquittal.

Less mindless video games, fucking video game nerds

Human beings don't come into the world craving arbys. Wide regulation of corporate propaganda would have a similar effect overall

I'm sorry but like showers are the one thing that keeps me sane on the daily. Should be setting up cisterns so toilets use less water per flush. Not like the stuff we piss and shit needs to be good water.
Imagine thinking even a bunch of individuals comes close to the usage of corporations whether in plastic, water, energy.
It's called passing the buck cause we all know corps are doing fuck all though they contribute to 95% carbon usage.
More than that, the message now (as evinced by the original tweet) is that you’ll be forced to compromise your entire well being to meet these draconian measures. ‘Look how the climate scientists want to oppress us’, etc.
What they’re obfuscating are all of the assumptions undergirding the ‘consumption’ of these items - that we must allow multinational corporations to ravage the world’s resources, ship things around the planet to exploit cheap labor, poison the air and water with their waste, and pursue ceaseless growth and profits - while you worry about whether you should stop buying shoes or stop washing your feet.
