London smells like shit sure, but Paris takes the cake.
Can't fathom how people can survive a day walking through the city in the summer.

Heath insurance is a fuckin joke in this country and I really don’t understand how it still exists
Alexis Thurber, who lives near Seattle, was insured by Anthem when she got an $18,192 hospital bill in May for radiation therapy that doctors said was essential to treat her breast cancer.
The treatments were “experimental” and “not medically necessary,” Anthem said, according to Thurber.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) led Haugen toward a recurring theme in his hearing questions: alleged political censorship on Facebook. Haugen gently redirected the question. “A lot of the things that I advocate for are around changing the mechanisms of amplification, not around picking winners and losers in the marketplace of ideas,” she said, referring to features like asking someone to read an article before they share it.Ted CruzZz 😴 one-trick ponies, these Republicans, yea
“Small actions like that friction don’t require picking good ideas and bad ideas; they just make the platform less twitchy, less reactive. And Facebook’s internal research says that each one of those small actions dramatically reduces misinformation, hate speech, and violence-inciting content on the platform.”
WASHINGTON — President Biden and Democratic leaders in Congress in recent days have slashed their ambitions for a major expansion of America’s social safety net to a package worth about $2 trillion or less, which will force hard choices about how to scale back or discard key portions of the president’s agenda.
The figure is substantially less than Mr. Biden’s initial, $3.5 trillion collection of spending programs and tax increases, which covered everything from climate change, education and a wide range of economic issues.
We're almost there. We just need to make the middle class pay for all of it instead of punishing the successful
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said on Sunday that it is not his "understanding" that President Biden suggested lowering the price of a massive reconciliation spending bill during a closed-door meeting with House Democrats. They playing you Bern Bern
Appearing on NBC News's "Meet the Press," Sanders was asked by host Chuck Todd if he had accepted that the reconciliation bill will likely be lower than the $3.5 trillion that Democrats had originally aimed to pass, as Biden is reported to have said to lawmakers.
"That is not my understanding of what he said," Sanders replied. "What he said is there's going to have to be give and take on both sides. I'm not clear that he did bring forth a specific number."
nobody knows what biden is pushing or being told is kinda the recurring theme at this point

By Perfect Blue Go To PostWhat do you mean? The article linked lays out further context and the knock-on benefits of stuff like government-funded or provided childcare among other things.flowery nyt jargon should be something everyone is wary of these days... but the options to *not* have your kids fucked up by the state is basically a friction point all over the world and shows up in various ways consistently.
By reilo Go To PostFederal US government spends close to $0 is a story though and always has been loleh. every state handles stuff different and I think the pandemic scared people with how an abrupt change rattled an already shitty cage
Not really disagreeing just saying that entire problem set is a lot more complicated than money spent. States can't even get public schools right they damn sure ain't doing anything with toddlers except stealing money in advance. The wunderbill stuff is gonna get louder as everyone starts jockeying to keep their promised slices too. Regarding childcare specifically, I just hope workers remember how much influence they have while walking out last year. Prime Citizen Education is the future.
Focusing on what states do is a problem imo. We need to lift the baseline and it needs to be a federally set/supported one. States should be adding cherries on top, right now it varies wildly state-to-state and it sucks.
