I remember reading a good book - The media at war, Susan L. Carruthers - in uni about the US using women's rights as a primary motive for the original invasion and how this was a crock of shit
“The Taliban is not the North Vietnamese army. They’re not remotely comparable in terms of capability. There’s going to be no circumstance where you see people being lifted off the roof of the embassy of the United States from Afghanistan. It is not at all comparable.”

At least Vietnam gave us some great music and films. All this one gave us was a Metallica music video.

There was the road to jalalabad map in battlefield 2
Reading Era about thus Afghan happening is quite demoralising. So much misinformation going on it’s crazy
Praying for the well being of Afghan citizens

I will not stand for this heresy
I'm surprised the US military was so hands off that they let it get to this point. Taliban actively in the city before the evac is bad.
It's been stunning to see just how fast the situation in Afghanistan has deteriorated.
Ultimately, I think it's the right decision but it's not a good look to see the chaos of the American withdrawal.

I mean, idk
I'm more baffled that folks truly believed that a puppet government with barely tangible control over just a few cities was ever gonna dig in. The Taliban at these talks was only good for representing the a portion of their interests anyways. It's not like they were ever all on the same page.
The departure was always gonna be messy but I think that too many decision makers smelled their own farts and didn't believe that the US leaving would be a lifetime awaited party and embolden everyone from the ageless mujahedeen workhorse to the kid who can barely hold a gun.
As soon as word of Bagram getting cleaned out started, you should've been long gone.
I legit have to remove myself with convos with other guys who are on some "but what was it all for" shit because I CLEARLY can't relate.

I mean did they lose? They got what they wanted with minimal loses on their side. It's pretty much impossible to outright "win" a war these days without some serious human rights abuses to quell descent.

Oh there was undoubtedly some great value to be had for shareholders.

Pretty much.
So I'm scared as fuck about the California recall election. A republican could easily win this draconian election and what if Feinstein dies in the next year?
Idk how that shit is constitutional Newsom ad flawed as he is would wipe the floor with any of them. They won't even mention he's a Democrat on the first question.
4,999,999 out of 10,000,000 could say to keep Newsom as governor but his replacement could win with less than votes than that

Nobody serious/worthwhile is running in this recall, either. It's somehow a worse field than the Schwarzenegger recall was in.
