If Boom’s Overture jets pass inspection, the plan is for them to be rolled out in 2025, fly in 2026, and expected to carry passengers by 2029. At that point, Boom claims its supersonic jets will eventually be able to travel from New York to London — normally a seven-hour flight — in just 3.5 hours, or Los Angeles to Sydney — typically a 15-hour trip — in six hours and 45 minutes. Tickets will cost $5,000 per seat.Build a high speed rail to travel between SF and LA in 2.5 hours for cheap? No

The deal announced said it each plane would cost about the same as a Boeing 787 -- $250mil or so -- so buying 35 planes would be almost $9bil investment. That's a lot of money so that the rich don't have to slum it with the middleclass and poors.
Meanwhile, we are all going stupid over a $50-100bln HSR project in California, because, again, fuck the middleclass and poors.

Why should a project going 2-3 times over budget not get criticism?
Are the "the poors" clamoring for a high speed rail to go between LA and San Francisco?

By diehard Go To PostWhy should a project going 2-3 times over budget not get criticism? It can get criticism but we are flat out putting strong political capital in killing the project all together. It's lack of ambition is staggering. The fact that nobody is batting an eyelash at $9bil in supersonic jets that cost $5,000/seat is a sign of inverted priorities.
By diehard Go To PostAre the "the poors" clamoring for a high speed rail to go between LA and San Francisco?Live in Central Valley and commute to San Jose or San Francisco for a job in under an hour? Yes. That's a huge economic equalizer especially with increasingly rising housing costs and the ridiculous cost to pollution by keeping a car commuting culture around. The benefits would be staggering but everyone just wants to cater to rich people flying fast.
American infrastructure these days is about everyone else getting paid and nothing being built or repaired.
By ʙɑɔɵɳ Go To PostTrains bad, cars good.30s to 50s in a nutshell now everyone wants more streetcars and more regional trains back
By diehard Go To PostAre the "the poors" clamoring for a high speed rail to go between LA and San Francisco? You serious, brah? Do you think China is building up their HSR infrastructure just for shits and giggles? Projects like that have incredible economic value when it's equitable and everyone is able to use it.
Would love a monorail on my Island just so that I get a massive piece of land on the beach and live way out without having to sit in traffic for an 1h30m in the mornings.
America could use that shit, there's plenty of places with real estate that's affordable hours out of the city but where you gonna work lol. Much as some people can get away with telecommuting, even with some jobs they want you in the office at least once or twice a week/month. Some people really enjoy the city but tons more would love a huge house and backyard once they start up a family.
It's a 45min ride via BART to get from Embarcadero to Walnut Creek, or it's anywhere from 45min - 1hr30min if you want to drive and arrive there by 6pm.
If you work in downtown SF and live in one of those BART-accessible suburbs, I don't know why you'd ever want to drive. And the BART is extremely imperfect and requires some serious longterm improvements but on the whole it's better than being in the car for so long. Cost of gas, parking, etc is just a huge burden.

BART is great for school commuting too since it's still $$$$ to live right by any of the colleges even if you don't dorm.
Yea, which is like, imagine if we had a real modern rail system, too. The BART is a service that has 120mil riders per year and it's a 50 years old rail system with a 70MPH max speed and 35MPH average. It's an "in addition" to type of situation. But modernizing BART and improving its efficiency and speed, while adding even longer distance capable HSR lines to cities further apart could improve a lot of lives economically and beyond.

It’s over budget mainly due to red tape bureaucratic shit. Smaller cities don’t want a rail going through their city if there’s no stop.
Bay Area also has the most "extreme commuters" in the nation. Something like 11% of all "extreme commuters" (3+ hours a day) commute within the Bay Area. Stockton to San Francisco ranks at the top -- which would currently be a 2.5 hour trip (83 miles) by car.
Let's see:
Manchin is a no on the filibuster, and now he is a no on reconciliation. He didn't get his 10 good republicans and is still talking about bipartisanship.
Can't wait for the next, "vote like your lives depend on it" cycle, after the dems having not done much of what they promised: due to Manchin, Sinema, and the dems that they are covering for blocking all legislative progress.
"Black people please help us."
"Minorities plz save democracy"
This white supremacist enabling chucklefuck is just basking in it.

Duh. You think Philip Morris hasn’t had plans for pot since medical marijuana took off or before
It’s actually a big reason I’m skeptical of pot stocks long term. The big boys will bring economies of scale and built in distribution channels. That’s when prices fall.
Smaller places will likely exist, like craft beer but yeah

Same reason I've been hesitant about investing in them.
Demonization of micro mobility is so strange. So you can basically only ride your escooter legally in your driveway? Smh. City needs to regulate this to allow it on public roads. I already see many people using this mode of transport anyway.
By Perfect Blue Go To PostThe UK has the same laws, but they're all completely ignored at this point

I've seen escummers get pulled by the pigs. Not completely ignored but in every case these idiots were on busy roads with no helmets.
Escoomers are the worst. Litter the sidewalks and just end up looking trash. These things started appearing during the end of September last year.
I wouldn't mind scooters if not for so many of those fuckers dangerously weaving into and out of traffic and not looking as they zoom across an intersection.
But you see the largest and most reliable voting bloc (boomers) think everything is GREAT unless it hurts their conservative social sensibilities!
I would have thought more people own stocks at least through pension funds. Is this more for individual stocks?

Pensions have been dropped to practical non-existence over the last 20 years.
