Some of the footage and stories coming out of the last week is so harrowing. What can be done, other than some charitable donations?

Our middle east policies are the biggest reminder we're a brutal dominant empire, willing to sacrifice scores of lives for resource control and capital gain
It's kind of scarier in ways when there's someone who knows what they're doing at the helm

Lol all this pro-Israel policy nonsense is because America wants to pander to the large Christian electorate that believes in the end-times

Out of interest, how much power does the President have to undo foreign support built in the decades preceding him? Would a pro-Palestine president necessarily be able to cut ties with Israel even if they were desperate to?
I'm not suggesting that that's the case if anyone thinks that I am by asking, from what I can tell Biden's tongue is firmly up Israel's arse.

It seems like everyone forgets that Biden is staunchly a huge Catholic first. His policy ideas on Israel all stems from his religious beliefs -- much like the 90% of America's elected officials. This is a subject that Republicans and Democrats fully agree on.
The next (and first time) you see a pro-Palestine (or at least neutral-Israel) POTUS will be if America ever manages to elect a non-Christian. And no, Trump doesn't count. And even then...

There's some stuff that's just beyond a single president's ability to break away from. There's simply far too much generational support domestically and internationally. You got a better chance of seeing a NK leader and Putin drinking beers with the President in Cuba.
I wouldn't even reduce it to a religious thing either. Unquestioning support of allies in a traditional sense looks exactly like this. And it's not limited to just this situation.

It's fucked either way, DY, this is why two party oppositions are shit.
Israel is committing war crimes and apartheid because they know they have US tacit approval.
Biden has slipped down massively in my estimation.

More disappointed than shocked.
The dichotomy of what is happening and calling oneself a devout Christian is mind-boggling - the cognitive dissonance.

I know the religious implications of evangelicals and controlling Jerusalem and shit, but there has to be other strategic reasons why you keep enabling fuckers like Netanyahu
Less than three years after AT&T spent over $85 billion and millions more fending off a government challenge to buy Time Warner, one of the biggest prizes in media, the phone company has decided on a completely different strategy.https://www.nytimes.com/2021/05/16/business/media/att-discovery-deal-time-warner.html
AT&T is in advanced talks to merge its media business, including CNN, with Discovery Inc., two people briefed on the deal said on Sunday. The plan would incorporate all of AT&T’s Warner Media assets, which include HBO and Warner Bros., one of the people said. The parties could announce a deal as soon as Monday, this person said, saying that the talks were not yet complete and final details had not been worked out.
Stop it, America. Just fucking stop this monopoly bullshit.
By Daz Go To PostIt's fucked either way, DY, this is why two party oppositions are shit. Two party or 12 party wouldn't matter. Its nationally on brand to support Israel - they just happen to be about 30 years behind the majority of our allies when it comes to shit like this. And even though its mostly US dollars at work, damn near everything in our partnerships is mostly US dollars. Shared responsibility is on everyone within that umbrella. And they all do or have done some kind of fukkery.

Deliberately antagonize, defend against capabilities you've long since effectively countered, respond with overwhelming force, negotiate worse terms, allow platitude patrol and showpiece concern efforts from third parties, reset strategy and retrain for new capabilities, repeat step one. This is gonna go on until Palestine is straight up gone or something dramatically outside of the equation happens... so unless Kendall Jenner and a bunch of others decide to hand out Pepsi in Gaza and make Israel decide if they want to test the relationships they've taken for granted the last 50+ years by bombing areas full of nationals they can't afford to harm, it's probably gonna stay the same. On the bright side (relatively and compared to other fucked up situations), they're only concerned with killing Palestinians in that area and aren't largely following them across the globe to kill their kids and their kids' kids. Syrians needed help after displacement, Palestinians will too. That's a real way to help, at least at this point.
Its got nothing to do with religion past the most base values and hasn't in decades imo. And Biden has been a shit catholic for most of his career too.
By reilo Go To Post^ @Perfect BlueSaw this video before and I'm actually stunned at how bad the transit systems are in the US when ours here is mentioned as a model transit system lol. It's so bad compared systems in Asia but that vid and the transit route depictions are really eye opening compared to the US, and they really don't need to be, when our cities are designed very similarly to yours.
Toronto even has a bunch of giant highways going through it on the southern part of the city and more highways at the north and outlying suburbs. There's been talk for a long time to gut the giant and dilapidated Gardiner Expressway that is an embarrassment of construction as well as a money sink.

Then he did a segment on stand your ground laws and how it basically increased homicide and allows white people to kill black people without repercussion by saying a magic phrase "I feared for my life."

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Monday said it would hear a case from Mississippi that could undermine Roe v. Wade, the 1973 decision that established a constitutional right to abortion.lol
The new case, concerning a state law that seeks to ban abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy, will give the court’s new 6-to-3 majority its first opportunity to address the subject, and supporters of abortion rights reacted to the development with dismay.
Turns out it was no secret that Hamas had operations in the AP building. The Atlantic had written an article about it back in 2014, and explained that members of the press in Gaza were too scared to say anything.

Matti Friedman: “When Hamas’ leaders surveyed their assets before this summer’s round of fighting, they knew that among those assets was the international press. The AP staff in Gaza City would witness a rocket launch right beside their office, endangering reporters and other civilians nearby — and the AP wouldn’t report it.”
Hamas militants would regularly “burst into the AP’s Gaza bureau and threaten the staff — and the AP wouldn’t report it.”

It's not Hong Kong bad at 20x yearly income but still quite disgraceful.
You should check out the High Park area, that's my neighbourhood, and other parts of the West End between Kipling and Bathurst.
