Heh it was coming. Right now it looks like the best result Liverpool can hope for is a 0-0. Dunno how Klopp can fix this attack. Everyone is so low on confidence.
that pen was either not a pen or Liverpool should have had one, but it doesn't really matter. The team is way out of form and today was compounded with a huge slice of bad luck, if the penalty hadn't been given then Thiago would have just backpassed it into the net or something
By Meier Go To PostSince you apparently still are unfamiliar with the rules, here are a few explanations for you:And if nobody was behind him in an offside position he wouldn't have rushed controlling the ball thus the offside player affected the outcome of the move...... it's almost if the rule is flawed and open to interpretation.....

Interesting interpretation, I'd argue a player tackling a player from an offside position is not the same as that player "recieving the ball", he didn't recieve the ball...he won the ball back

Fucking pathetic
Can't get away with conceding one fucking goal our attack is so woeful. Would be surprised if we finished top 4, not turning this shit around anytime soon.
Fucked the easy run and now go into the hard one looking incapable of winning any kind of game.

Don't worry we'll give you a (non-PL) goal or two.

I'm surprised it's a rule that hasn't been looked at but I'm also unsure how I'd change it

Yet the opposite decision was made in that Italian match yesterday when the situation was the same. Those officials were applying the same laws of the game and made a different decision. So clearly there is an issue.
If the refs had whistled Rodri and called offside, nobody would have said anything.

By Ushojax Go To PostBasically Napoli got very lucky there, frankly. It's a rule that you can sort of theoretically say is open to interpretation, but it's more that the refs just sometimes make the wrong call -- what's written makes it clear how it should be handled.
I think one thing that is worth noting that differentiates these two scenarios though is that in the Juve game, the player is passing it to Ronaldo who is in an offside position and it's after another Juve pass. They have the possession of the ball and it's a deliberate act. In the City game, it's just a ball headed in that direction after the defense knocks it the other way. Mings also touches the ball a second time after his initial controlling of the ball before Rodri takes it off him. Cash is deeper than Mings as well, so Rodri is fully onside in every conceivable way at the time of the last touch by the defender.

You are making it way too complicated. In both instances a player who is offside interferes with play. It should be an easy decision to blow the whistle in both cases.
Nobody would be getting upset if Rodri had been flagged. Nobody.

You'd be saying that if that defender in that man city game controls the ball, turns around, dribbles backwards directly at the offside Rodri(and let's assume Rodri didn't track back and stayed 20 metres offside) and the defender whacks the ball into Rodri on purpose. He gets an offside call
The point really is determining when him being offside is giving him an advantage and when he is interfering with play. The defender in that man city game looks back, sees Rodri coming, chests it, and then instead of passing it forwards with his second touch, he tries to cut it back and step Rodri and fails.
It's an odd moment

Could barely be arsed with this season when we were looking like mounting a decent defense of the title
I still remember that day.
Mario Jardel had scored 55 goals in 41 games in the previous season but he wasn't picked for the Brazilian squad for the World Cup, was hoping to leave the club for a better league but no one was interested and his wife left him.
He forced his way out, refusing to return from Brazil and missing all pre season, only returning in September after the transfer window had been shut and completely out of shape.
Despite our league title in the previous season, the start of the 02/03 season was atrocious. We won the first 2 league games but got eliminated in the Champions League 3rd qualifier after a 0-0 draw at home (where a 17 year old Cristiano Ronaldo played his first minutes for the club) and a 2-0 loss away to Inter Milan, this together with a 4-0 loss away to Paços de Ferreira, a 0-0 draw in home to Varzim and a 4-2 loss to Braga meant that matchday 6 arrived we were starving for points.
It was Mário Jardel's first game after the drama in the summer and everyone was hoping he would be our saviour again but the biggest surprise of that match was seeing that 17 year old kid's name not only in the team sheet for the match against Moreirense but actually starting in his league debut.
It was supposed to be Jardel's day but that moment of pure geniality around the 30 minute mark completely changed the narrative.
Ronaldo would score one more near the end of the game to make it 3-0 and mark his arrival in style.
He scored a couple of goals in the rest of the season and had a lot of brilliant moments that showed he could go far.
Start of the 03-04 season and Ronaldo absolutely destroyed the United team in the first game in our new stadium (bit of trivia, the first goal ever scored in the new stadium was by Luis Filipe, a below average footballer but his first and last names are the same as my first two names so I always enjoyed that he was the first goal scorer in Alvalade XXI) and the rest is history.
Is Ronaldo the most talented player ever seen? No.
But he is definitely the most hard working player I ever seen and the proof is almost 20 years later he is still one of the best around.
I wonder if you would say that if Barcelona had bought Ronaldo instead of Quaresma in that same summer that Ronaldo went to United.
