Cheers, not gonna read them
Not the biggest fan Sci Fi books anyway, will just watch the movie when it comes out

Honest, troll free opinion is to watch a modern Ghibli film from the last few years first that’s light on their usual themes. Having said that, start with Ponyo. Very simple story compared to their other works but it’s a great entry point. From Up On Poppy Hill and When Marnie Was There are also good places to start… in fact just do those three first in whatever order you want then branch out where ever after because you’ll be exposed to their three main styles of film: Japanese fairy tales and ghost/yokai stories (Ponyo), more realistic and down to earth slices of life (From Up On Poppy Hill or The Wind Rises), and magical realism (When Marnie Was There).
I did watch When Marnie Was There a little ago. was alright. I really tried to like anime, but it's just not doing it for me all that much, although I do find most of what I have watched decent. Maybe I will try Ponyo, I have seen pictures though... some weird ginger baby dwarf or something. not sure.

Most studio ghibli films are socialist critique of Japanese toxic work culture and spiritual connections to nature that are under threat or dying or both in the case of Spirited Away.
Or antiwar message like grave of the Fireflies and Howl's Moving Castle.

I even loved The Cats Return. I have no idea why people hate that movie!

They are the best selling, most watched movies in Japan, yet it had no effect on those toxic cultures, neither has Japanese media focused on those

Even if you don't think that's what the Yababa's bath-house represented, interpretations are not inherently "wrong".

By Daz Go To PostArt doesn't try to change society, merely hold up a mirror to it.The human world parts of Spirited Away are absolutely a critique of Japanese capitalism and specifically the bubble economy of the 1980s that crashed in the 1990s. It takes place near an abandoned amusement park and those things were being built every where in Japan during the postwar boom. The parents turn into literal pigs for consuming so much food at the beginning of the film.

I’ve never really looked at the spirit world scenes as anything more than Miyazaki taking a bunch of well known yokai and providing his own take on them, though, so I’ll keep your interpretation in mind the next time I watch it.
Really liked the Girl with all the Gifts, great cast but the main actress is incredible for such a young performer and for her feature film debut too.
Has some similarities to TLOU which was cool.

Just watched No Sudden Move... that was really fun. No one does these kinds of modern capers like Steven Soderbergh.
By Daz Go To PostWhat ever happened to Noomi Rapace? She got old.
By Freewheelin Go To PostThanks for your responses lol, will prob start with Castle in the Sky.I didn't realize that it was actually completed.
Just watched Love and Monsters
Great flick, reminded me of Zombiland, didn’t like the ending though. Hoped it would go in non-cliched way but ALAS
I guess it’s one of those movies that the journey is thing that should be enjoyed not the destination

By Laboured Go To PostI like the look of this. The black ops team of priests is a bit silly but the rest looks pretty good.

By Not Go To PostWatch I May Destroy You and judge for yourselfMan it's a BBC drama so I know it's going to be good but from the trailer I still have have no idea what it is about. I normally don't do more slice of life dramas with no stakes.
It’s about surviving sexual assault, but is easily the freshest and most interesting take I’ve ever seen on that.
By sy Go To PostSuit cgi at the end looked really badps2 level lol
I don't know man. Lynch's Dune is a shit movie. The books are also not really that great. Denis is a decent director but this might also be a trashfire just like Blade Runner 2049 which only managed to visually stun, but bored the living shit out of me.
And this trailer manages to only look visually stunning but doesn't hook me with it's characters nor the cliched chosen one story - I felt zero excitement watching this trailer.

In the name of meus, or whoever said it, this is an opinion that is wrong.

mods ffs do something
BR2049 so incredibly forgettable but yeah calling it a trash fire is harsh lol. Nevertheless, I appreciate the bravery.
Watching A Bronx Tale, and this kid is a damn loser. You have a solid father and you idolize some bum ass gangster?
