Wish I watched it drunk.
I too shall attempt to watch it tonight. I expect I'll drink at least 1L of water during this endeavour.
Zabo you are doing yourself a disservice not watching MK in a distorted state. Dont make the same mistake I did
Watched the original Mortal Kombat last night. I still love it but it's all due to the nostalgia because, damn, that movie is bad. Half of those people can't throw a punch, it even makes less sense than the game and acting is pretty bad.
Still the most hype initial credits sequence.

It was one of my most watched VHS tapes back in the day. It was so cool for a kid at the time but it has aged very poorly.

By RATHasReturned Go To PostThe Oscars are this weekend. I had no clue.Likewise
Meh, I never seem to agree with the winners so, i wish this wankery died out
Nomadland is going to win over Minari and then Nomadland will be forgotten in a few years while every single person that watches Minari for the next 100 years is going to wonder why it lost to a movie they never heard about

By reilo Go To PostHurt Locker #10 lolAbove Silence of the Lambs
I must be the only person who loved The Artist and got happy that it won the Oscar that year
I might be easy to please but that movie kind of blew my mind when it came out, never seen anything like it before!

Parasite is great but I swear people act like it’s the only foreign movie they’ve ever seen.
Hurt Locker is about 60 places too high.

It is probably. it needed a ton of hype to convince people to read subtitles
I have seen far too little of these
Great - Departed, Return of the King, Unforgiven, Annie Hall, Titanic, Amadeus, No Country, 12 Years, Schindler, Cuckoo, Lambs, Apartment, Casablanca, Godfather 1 + 2, Parasite, Moonlight

Decent - Deer Hunter, Birdman, Argo, Rain Man, My Fair Lady, Oliver, Shape of Water
Meh - Shakespeare in Love, The Artist, Forrest Gump, Gandhi, Slumdog, Gladiator
Bad - King’s Speech, American Beauty, Hurt Locker
Dogshit - Crash, Green Book

My favourites in order: Casablanca, The Lost Weekend, From Here To Eternity, The Bridge on the River Kwai, Lawrence of Arabia, All About Eve, The Godfather (both), No Country For Old Men, Amadeus, On The Waterfront, The Best Years of Our Lives, It Happened One Night.
Ahhh, Minari was lovely. Steven Yeun was great as was the grandma but the whole family felt so realistic and not at all fake. A beautifully made film.
There were times during that movie where I had to pause it because I was blindsided by sudden memories of doing the same things the kids were doing
Very authentic-feeling

MK was a bit of a mess but I hope to god they get to do a sequel.
There’s some baffling story decisions, some that were clearly done due to the low budget but there’s a ton of fun service that I loved.
I laughed so much with the fact that the ground kick and the uppercut are overpowered, that’s so classic MK.

It's the soundtrack. That's the disappoinment for me. The 1995 has an ICONIC soundtrack which take the movie into another stratosphere to match the fights.
This 2021 movie is better made of course, but it doesn't grab you the same way. It's violent, Kano is hilarious, the fights are decent, but the impact isn't there because the soundtrack and lack of exciting music isn't there to carry it.

Just watched Two Distant Strangers
What a fucked up movie (not it’s quality which is great, but the story) man America is such a broken country and it’s really live I. A country they call it their own while while getting oppressed. Just wish I heard some black people just said fuck it I am not American

Cole is the worst main character they could've used. He has the charisma of a used piece of toilet paper. 11 games and decades of lore/characters and they use Cole?

I liked the movie cause it was fun but it seems like there were two different themes running through the whole time. One was realistic and grounded and the other was over the top and violent. It was definitely a choice.
The last fight scene with Sub and Scorpion was fucking hype though.
I would love to see a MK series, i think the story and characters would play well fleshed out.
