By JesalR Go To PostWatched Godzilla 2014… what a nothing movieThe trailers were the best thing about it and the poster was the best thing about Kong Skull Island.
By n8 dogg Go To PostI love 2014 GodzillaWhat about it? Felt it didn't really do any of the characters justice, nor really the monsters.
I liked the idea that the monsters were left more to suspense, but the story around them felt as base as possible.
If you want suspense and anticipation, do something to build it
By Perfect Blue Go To PostThought it was pretty mediocre tbh. Was legit disappointed.
my ding dong is broken
By n8 dogg Go To PostI genuinely think 2014 Godzilla is one of my favourite blockbusters. C’est la vie.
christ. i mean it's not terrible. but favorite blockbusters?
2014 is really good. It's got some incredible shots. Love when you see godzillas shadow go under bridge

I like how the characters are so helpless and they’re there as on the ground perspectives for how powerful the creatures are; I never cared about them lacking personality because I don’t think Edwards ever really tries for it. I think there’s a real sense of visual awe and wonder at how Godzilla is shot, how he’s teased, how he’s established - as if he’s so preposterously unbelievable and large and otherworldly that he never really fits in the frame and appears fully until late. There’s some beautiful cinematography, a good score, and a build up to a climax instead of shooting its wad early doors. I loved its restraint; I think it’s almost classically made in that regard, like Close Encounters or Jurassic Park.
Few good reviews of it that’ll do a better job than me.

I’m sorry we don’t all like Batman and Robin

The sound effects as he falls in, and comes up again, are Oscar worthy alone

I don't think he really captured the terror, or the fear, or the thickness of the moment well. If you want to position your view from down on the ground then I want more than just instant pandemonium and adrenaline. Even with its key characters, I'm not certain he captured it.

If you want to characterise the monsters, which he says he did, then I think his successes were largely visual and not enough more

unironically
Joel Schumacher sidestepped both the far-right "cops aren't enough" fascist Batman and the lib "benevolent billionaire" Batman, both versions unhinged psychopaths framed as sympathetic because they maintain the status quo
He's a stupid character. I'll take all of the sitcom Batman stuff you got

I liked that it exists in a world that has the technology to build a hyperloop between Florida and HK but nobody had the idea to attack Godzilla with anything bigger than an F35 fired AMRAAM.
Did my best to turn my brain off, was better than the last insanely stupid Godzilla movie but Skull Island was more enjoyable IMO.

By aka Espi Go To PostI mean…a nuke would probably still be our "best" weapon but it doesn't do anything against him40 lb warheads had him flinching, I'm sure a 2,000 lb JDAM or 5,000 lb GBU would be worth a shot.
I realize of everything plot related to criticize this is not even close to the top.
i agree with the pacific rim/godzilla logic, as soon as the kaijus show up its time to build gundams
Ok, I honestly loved Chaos Walking.
As a huge fan of the books, they changed a lot but a lot what made it special was brought to life in a cook twisted way
Really surprised by the reviews score, although you can tell who didn’t read the books and missed a lot of the points of the story

Can't bring myself to watch this movie
Maybe I was a little harsh on Godzilla 2014, because fuck me 2019 is terrible
Skull Island was ok, if a little heavy handed and muddy

By JesalR Go To PostMaybe I was a little harsh on Godzilla 2014, because fuck me 2019 is terribleThe new one is far better than 2019 if for no other reason that you can see whats going on in the monster fights and they dropped almost all of the family stuff that nobody cared about.
Skull Island was ok, if a little heavy handed and muddy
Did a re-watch of Dr Strange.
Its better than I remembered. I recall not being happy bout Cumberbatch's casting.
He proved me wrong - ropey House imitation notwithstanding.

Skull Island is quite ass. Some nice visuals but only because it thinks orange glow = apocalypse now
I'm surprised there hasn't been Western, live action Attack on Titan or NGE movies by now. Thought crossed my mind when thinking about Godzilla and Anno having made a live action one (and the co-writer/director of the Shin… movies did direct a live action AOT apparently)

But in a call with Whedon, Fisher says he had barely started to talk when the filmmaker cut him off. "It feels like I'm taking notes right now, and I don't like taking notes from anybody — not even Robert Downey Jr.," he said. Other
Fisher says he later learned from a witness who participated in the investigation that Johns and other top executives, including then-DC Films co-chairman Jon Berg and Warners studio chief Toby Emmerich, had discussions in which they said they could not have "an angry Black man" at the center of the film.lol
Imagine fearing losing your job because Cyborg didn't say "booyah" in the movie.
