Disney is full of shit. Thank God Deadpool 3 will still be R, but the rest of the statement is crap. They will always start with a PG or PG-13 story. Disney Marvel is not going to start or hire writers for an R-rated story and work their way backwards.
By aka Espi Go To PostI signed up to Criterion Collection for 14 trial. Any recommendations? I wanna watch Akira Kurosawa’s films because its something that’s always been on my list but I just never got around to.https://www.criterionchannel.com/japanese-noir
Branded to Kill, Tokyo Drifter, and Pale Flower specifically.
edit: Just noticed some white lady introduces the series. ffs
By diehard Go To Postkids/families need movies toolike they're in any danger of running out of those

By sy Go To Postlike they're in any danger of running out of thoseare we in danger of running out of rated R movies?
By diehard Go To Postare we in danger of running out of rated R movies?Yes, 100%
Studios won't put movies in theaters if they are potentially Rated R and that's been a sticking point for decades now
By reilo Go To PostYes, 100%But that's fine? 57% of movies rated by the MPAA are rated R and their box office returns have been steady for 2 decades (except in 2020 where rated R actually surpassed PG-13).

The idea that we just absolutely need more rated R comic book movies is strange to me.
By diehard Go To PostThe idea that we just absolutely need more rated R comic book movies is strange to me.We don't have any outside of Deadpool
By reilo Go To PostWe already got a PG-13 Alien and Die Hard, so why not

By reilo Go To PostWe don't have any outside of DeadpoolI'm not saying there shouldn't be rated R comic book movies (Logan was good) but the really broad stuff like Avengers or Captain America i think they should be aimed at something you can have a family go see and i don't blame them for it.

The only reason it worked as Rated R is because Fox was willing to take that risk -- Disney is not.
literally nobody is asking for r rated avengers and captain america.
What's the point of doing a PG-13 Blade?

By Perfect Blue Go To PostEasily Hobbit trilogy
Gotta be Game of Thrones. Season 8 was so bad the show got expunged from the collective conscious.
Not one good moment across three movies
Star Wars prequels are the lowest quality but they’re actually very boring so they don’t really count.
Hobbit 3 was fucking diabolical, but yes GoT has slipped from the world’s collective memory.
It wasn’t actually ever that good anyway. Peaked in Season 1.
I actually quite like the first Hobbit, but the third is one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen.

By LabouredPatriot Go To PostWe might not get a good Mass Effect game anymore but I’d be more interested in movies/TV
By DY_nasty Go To Posthow do you give hobbit any hobbit movie a pass
The first one had some charm. I even liked the hobbits singing
Dont @ me
I can watch the Hobbits, they were merely mediocre and below expectations.
SW prequels are ultra garbage on every level.
But S8 GOT retroactively destroyed roughly 67 hours of mostly good material and I will never ever watch it again.

AOTC is gutter ass though
Also ROTS seems to have had a bit of a critical reevaluation recently. I don’t know why. Still absolute dog shit.

Episode 3 was fun at least. Still trash but yeah.
Tempted to rent the restoration of Demonlover, from Assayas. Had never heard of it but :
If you've never seen them I recommend Henri-Georges Clouzot 'Wages of Fear' and 'Diabolique', classic thrillers from the same era. Wages of Fear is probably one of my favourite films.
I'm curious about the two Hiroshi Teshigahara films listed there but I've never seen them. Face of Another and Woman in the Dunes, two Kobo Abe adaptations.
I've never looked at criterion before but it's nuts how good the selection is. The UK equivalent, BFI Player, pales in comparison.
The plot focuses on the entanglement between various national corporations vying over the financial control of an interactive 3-D hentai company, resulting in a power struggle that culminates in violence and espionage.

Ikiru also very good but much slower pace.
