Ghost In The Shell(1995) could never not be gorgeous so the 4k blue ray is gorgeous as expected. Not even sure the 4k or hdr can add much to this. I imagine a more modern anime film like Your Name or Weathering With you is probably a better 4khdr showcase.
But more than picture quality, the level of craftsmanship and draftsmanship behind damn near every frame of this movie makes me wanna fucking die.

regular run of the mill transitions are out of this world too.
5 second shot of Motoko waking up and wiping her eyes drawn with perfect anatomy at a difficult perspective that probably took one of the best to ever do it 5 weeks to animate just cause
And then fucking animates her silhouette putting on a jacket , no rotoscoping, no help from 3d models just demon skill
Turning this off Where's the adderall smh

It is just disgusting. How do they work out a consistent palette set for those kinds of scenarios without computer calculation?
I remember on Akira everyone being blown away at how many lighting shades and greyscale shades they were using.

Coloring and compositing is still pretty painstaking work in modern times, can only imagine 20+ years ago. This is pretty basic but gives some insight.

I still can't believe that Otomo was leading the production of Akira While drawing almost 20 pages of the manga weekly
Otomo: That sounds great — having fun, and becoming good at drawing. Doing a weekly series is brutal, though, isn’t it?
Inoue: Yeah, I really can’t pull it off anymore.
Otomo: How many days did it take you to do a chapter of Slam Dunk?
Inoue: Well, it was 19 pages per week…
Otomo: So you’d take about five days, I imagine.
Inoue: Was Akira weekly?
Otomo: Biweekly, but I was doing it alongside the production for the film(which probably explains the incoherent storytelling in the movie) too, so I was actually doing 20 pages in a week.
Inoue: Whoa, that’s crazy.
Otomo: I used to finish with the manga, then head to the animaton studio — on no sleep — and work on the film. That time in my life has to have been the peak of my physical energy. (laugh)
Dude was drawing shit like this weeklyby hand while working on the movie(and even managed to animate a couple shots with 0 prior experience).
One of his assistants said he used to hang pins from his drawing board going into seperate rooms to make sure the perspective was correct(oh and he also has an architecture degree)
Perspective correct line work like that which has been done by hand actually hurts my brain. Him coming from an arch. background makes a lot of sense.
By n8 dogg Go To PostSorry To Bother YouI have not needed to watch it more than once.
Well, I'm gonna have to rewatch GitS now. Gonna throw Patlabor 2 in there as well. One of the all time goats. When anime was still good.
By Zabojnik Go To PostMonster Hunter is modern masterpiece.
So bad its good ?!
By Kuma Go To PostSo bad its good ?!I actually can't say yet. Only watched the first half and as Cavalo said ... the first hour is not quite as horrible as you'd expect.
Second half is quite rushed and much less coherent. Seems like it's all a set up for multiple sequels as the ending wraps literally nothing up.

The second half of Zodiac is boring as fuck.
get out
I kind of agree? It's cringe, but purposefully so. Spiderman 3 was half of a good movie, but with far too much shit packed in. It didn't need Venom, Sandman and Harry Osborne's Green Goblin. Should've saved the latter for Spiderman 4.
Amazing Spiderman 2 had the same problem. Electro should've been the sole antagonist in that movie. But Sony tried to shoehorn in another Green Goblin to kick-start their Sinister Six movie and ended fucking everything up a second time.

Give Evans as much money as he wants. Scratch that, don't give me that much money. The way he shot The Raid movies is nothing short of amazing.
This just blows my mind. It's so simple but so good, you know must people would just use CGI for some of those things.
I don’t know if you lot watched Gangs of London (it’s ok) but there’s one or two scenes in it, and one episode in particular, which are set up much like the action films he’s done.
And actually I looked it up now and he directed those scenes and the other episode in particular.

and the pub fight from the first episode I think:

That tweet just reminded me that I always have wondered how many kids I could repeatedly punt before getting tired.
I love Rosamind Pike and her new movie seems to be really well made and directed, but I honestly can’t stand horrible people doing horrible things to innocent people and get away with it
Maybe I am getting older

If they like it, I avoid their taste like the plague

It's interesting at first but it as it goes on it becomes increasingly worse, the plot holes get more noticeable and the final minutes are pure nonsense.
It's bad, really bad.
Finally watched White Tiger on Netflix. Enjoyed it quite a bit. It does the Joker thing a lot more elegant.
