Only movie that comes to mind that might qualify is Lost City of Z and he got acted circles around him and basically had no dialog
EDIT: nope, didn't get nominated for shit

By n8 dogg Go To PostNo Way Home to sweep the OscarsIt's not even the best movie this year with Andrew Garfield.
I didn't see anything in Spider-Man that would be worth nominating at the Academy Awards.
(even on a visual/technical level)
It's fun, but people get carried away with these Marvel films.

Actually offended you spoilered this.
I think Cumberbatch or Will Smith will win the Oscar, but Garfield was better (than Cumby at least, haven’t seen King Richard)
Cumby
Garf
Denzel
Will
Dinklage or DiCaprio
will be top 5

Tl;dr my shit post hot take: A big budget film should not look like CW trash on purpose or by accident for that matter.
By Laboured Go To PostDo you think anyone has ever changed their mind on this website?Once,
It was horrifying.
I like how Junior in the Sopranos kicking some other old man in the carehome was more convincing than that Deniro scene. Pretty much same age actors too. How to film shit 101.
Don’t Look Up is further proof I just can’t get along with post-Ferrell Adam McKay. I could handle the smug, self-satisfied, pretentious, overly didactic tone well enough for a few reasons: 1) it was actually a little toned down from The Big Short and Vice, with more focus on actually making a film for around 75% of it instead of a collection of YouTube videos, and 2) because I largely agree with his politics and sentiment - and there is definitely some power in the film’s final 10 minutes or so.
What makes the aforementioned smugness less palatable is that the filmmaking just isn’t very good. No one here has a character but instead works with just stock stereotypes. Lawrence and Streep in particular are hugely let down by the script, while DiCaprio does some good shouting but is left scrambling for any nuance or depth because McKay has not provided him with any besides ‘his glasses change to show he is now cooler’. It’s lowest common denominator humour for the most part, taking easy jibes at a president who is beyond satire, and is only actually funny once or twice (I did like Lawrence’s running joke). Every scene is so baggy, seemingly full of all the material they shot instead of editing around the best parts. Often times McKay will cut away from something approaching humanity or the chance to focus on character in order to fit in another establishing shot, or focus on a computer screen, or stock footage of a whale, and it’s almost always the wrong choice.
I get it. Man cannot top Step Brothers, so why try?

Shame Tragedy of Macbeth doesn't hit streaming till next month, only other 2021 movie besides Dune I was hyped for.
Watched the trailer for Cmon Cmon, someone as ghoulish looking as Phoenix can't play a normal dude. Same reason I can only tolerate Michael Shannon in crazy roles.

Wish they'd either got someone different, or just adjusted the character so he can use his real accent. Does anyone actually care about Dr Strange's life pre-powers?
so i am not sure why, but i watched the matrix. that was bad, which i did expect. but i didnt expect it to like kind of a be a comedy on top of that.'i am sure you understand why our beloved parent company warner brothers have decided to make a sequel to the trilogy. '
💀
1.5/5. that's still a whole star above Spiral.

Still can't wrap my head around how Matrix 4 is complete trash.
I mean maybe we're all looking it it wrong.
Maybe we should be looking at it as an off beat comedy.
Don't look up is sensational.

Matrix was terrible. Only funny thing was that Jude character who was straight up Jeff Gerstmann.
Action was trash, story was nonsensical garbage and the meta commentary was on 22 Jump Street style level. And Lana's complain of "they took our deeply personal story and turned it into a video game" is preposterous considering she made a career out of it, 4 terrible follow up movies and a bunch of cash.
What a wasted opportunity. Should have done the reboot without her.

Not sure why i thought a taxi driver would be a comedy. It kind of was for 30 min I guess, then gets real serious. Good film though, love that main actors goofy face. German actor wasn't very good i thought, but that seems to be the standard for western actors in Asian films i guess
just saw it, too.
really feels like a netflix movie, which… isn’t a compliment.
first dicaprio dud in years.

He was fine. Zero character for him to sink his teeth into. Just felt like he’d carried over some of the same ticks from OUATIHollywood and let that sustain him.
Think Jonah Hill was actually served best by the script.

I'm understanding why people liked Phil Hartman so much.
He's like Bill Murray if Bill Murray didn't look like a creep.

Some interesting hyperbole around Don't Look Up.
Some people saying it's terrible (it's not), some people saying DiCaprio will get a nom for it (he won't). It's just alright. A film. Couple of giggles. Couple of nice moments. Some boring chunks. Just a straight down the middle average as fuck film. An improvement over the directors last two bore fests.

Top bad films I watched this year:
1. Spiral (one of the worst ive ever seen)
2. Mortal Kombat
3. Shadow in the Cloud
Old Henry, Promising Young Woman, The Humans, Matrix and Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City all worthy mentions as well. and so is the chestnut man, which might be a tv series, but is so bad it transcends its media.
